      Cowshed Hand Cream

Being a bit of a beauty product addict, I always like to try out new things and vary the brands that I use. One of my most exciting discoveries has been finding online companies that provide beauty boxes. The idea is that you will be sent a box every month, which will contain a selection of various make-up, skin care, fragrance products etc for you to try out, and I have been trying a few from different suppliers. I received Cow Slip Soothing Hand Cream by Cowshed in a previous delivery from Amarya. You can find further information at www.amarya.co.uk and www.cowshed online.com. The full size pump bottle version contains 300ml and costs RRP £16.00, and I received the travel size version which contains 50ml and costs RRP £8.00.

Product description: "This softening hand cream restores suppleness and moisture to your hands. Sweet orange oil cleanses whilst peppermint relieves and refreshes skin."

The hand cream comes in a black tube with a simple floral sketch design in white, which looks quite cute and fits in with the country Cowshed theme. Of course the downside of this is that it is impossible to see through the packaging to figure out how much of the cream is left inside, and I do tend to prefer packaging that is clear for this reason. The tube has a flip-top lid at the bottom which is handy as the cream then pools at the bottom of the tube making it easier to dispense.

Recommended directions for use: Massage into hands and cuticles throughout the day to keep skin and nails moisturised and soft.

This hand cream has a thin runny consistency and is pure white in colour. Only a small amount is required as the light texture helps it to spread over my skin easily and also means that it is absorbed quickly. There is no greasy residue left behind afterwards, and my hands feel instantly smoother and soothed. Afterwards the surface texture of my skin feels much improved and is softer to the touch. The 50ml size tube is convenient for keeping on my desk at work, and I will apply it during the day as required. The liquid soap provided in our washroom can be drying if I need to wash my hands frequently, and the effect of air conditioning can be an additional factor for causing dryness, so I end up using this hand cream most days, and sometimes repeatedly throughout the course of a day. By applying this hand cream after washing I am able to restore the condition of my skin and keep my hands feeling smooth, which makes it much more comfortable in an office environment where I am constantly using my hands for typing.

From time to time I have noticed that immediately after I have applied this hand cream I experience a slight tingly sensation which makes my hands feel itchy. I am unsure as to why, and suspect that it could possibly be the inclusion of peppermint oil, as I know from use in other products that it sometimes does give a tingly effect when applied to the body. Luckily this does not happen every time, and goes away again quickly, but it is worth noting that this could potentially irritate sensitive skin.

The scent of this hand cream is really unusual, and although it is strong it is not too much to be overpowering. To begin with I was unsure about it, but as I used it more often I really appreciated the uniqueness of the fragrance. The hints of orange and peppermint give off a rich bitter scent, which is refreshing and invigorating. Despite being able to smell the orange notes quite clearly, it does not come across as being overly sweet like I would usually expect from a fruity scented beauty product, and has a real natural quality to it thanks to the use of pure essential oils. Breathing in the scent as I rub the cream into my hands helps to perk me up somewhat, and is a nice little treat that I enjoy as I use the product.

Overall, I would recommend this Cow Slip Soothing Hand Cream by Cowshed. It is absorbed easily, keeping my hands feeling soft and smooth. The unusual fragrance might not be to everyone's tastes, but it certainly grew on me and now I really enjoy it. I do have a slight niggle about the occasional itchiness, but this seems to be infrequent and has not been too much of a problem.

        my new favourite hand cream

I'm currently using Cowshed Cow Slip Soothing Hand Cream, and within just a few days of using the hand cream it earned the status of my favourite hand cream ever.

I initially bought the large 300ml size, which comes in a tall bottle with a pump dispenser on the top, this was £16. However once I discovered how much I love this hand cream I also went and bought the small 50ml size travel tube as well, which was the extortionate price of £8. I say extortionate because I got 6 times as much in the tall bottle, for just double the price.

However I do have a cunning plan now that I have the travel size tube, each time it's empty I'm then going to refill it from the larger bottle, thereby saving myself a fortune as I do always have a small tube of hand cream in my handbag. This will be easy enough to do, as the travel size tube has a lid that either flips up to expose a small hole to squeeze a small amount of hand cream out of to use on a day to day basis, or the whole of the lid screws off completely to expose a much larger hole that I can easily use to fill up the tube with hand cream from the larger bottle.

My only gripe with the full size pump dispenser is that it does dispense too much of the hand cream with one full depress of the pump, I would find myself rubbing the excess into my arms as there was just way too much to rub into my hands alone. Once I'd figured this out though, and then played around with the pump dispenser to get the correct amount out of the dispenser in one go (which is to depress the pump half way which will dispense the perfect amount to adequately rub into both of my hands) then I've had no further problems with the pump dispenser.

Cow Slip is the newest hand cream by Cowshed, they also do Cow Pat hand cream, which I've also tried and which I also really like. Cow Slip hand cream won the Elle Beauty Award for Best Hand Cream last year.

Cowshed say that ''This soothing and luxurious hand cream uses spearmint oil for its healing and antibacterial properties as well as petitgrain, peppermint and sweet orange to maintain moisture and restore supple skin for younger looking hands''.

This hand cream definitely keeps my hands soft, smooth and moisturised, with no greasy after feel at all. It is quickly and easily absorbed into my hands and nails. It actually feels quite cooling, soothing and calming on my hands as I rub this in. A little bit of this hand cream goes a long way, I don't need much of it at all, so it lasts for absolutely ages.

The fragrance of this hand cream is absolutely divine. It's a gorgeous smelling fragrance, and it lasts for absolutely ages on my hands, I can still smell it hours later. I would describe the fragrance as being predominantly the mint in this hand cream - the spearmint oil and the peppermint, but I can also smell the sweet orange too. I could literally just sniff my hands all day I love the fragrance so much!

I'd definitely recommend this hand cream, and I'm definitely going to continue to buy it.
