A wise man would buy it!

Before becoming a mum I had lovely soft hands and strong nails but constant washing has resulted in them looking a bit below par. It was this in mind no doubt that one of my friends bought me this hand cream as part of my birthday present.

I have to confess that I was a little disappointed with the packaging. It is in a rather dull green tube with a small picture of a lemon. It would therefore appeal to a woman who is sophisticated and likes the classic things in life. Well that's what I am telling myself that is how I am viewed by my friend rather than being a bit on the boring side! If buying for a teenager or younger woman then for retro fun packaging I would be more inclined to go more Cath Kidson or for a cheaper alternative Soap and Glory. I also think that given the colour of the tube it would make a nice gift for a woman who likes gardening although Crabtree and Evelyn do have their own range especially for gardeners.

Despite being rather underwhelmed by the packaging I have become a big fan of this product. I was concerned when I saw that honey was one of the ingredients that it might be overpowering and sweet but the smell is more herbal and refreshing with a hint of sweetness that I really like. I personally don't like hand creams that smell so strongly that they clash with my perfume so this works well for me. It does have a nice fragrance which masks odours but doesn't overpower. Quite important for a mum to a baby!
More important than the smell is how effective it is. This hand cream works well both on soften my hands when they start to feel rough and on improving my nails and cuticles. In fact I shouldn't call it hand cream as Crabtree and Evelyn refer to it as hand therapy. Despite being very effective it doesn't form a greasy layer on my skin nor takes ages to sink in. This is even more important to me as the last thing I need is slippery hands when trying to catch a fast crawling baby!
I like to apply small amounts during the day and when I have more time at night rub it into my cuticles and nails. It is easy to squeeze out a small amount from the tube and it is a nice thick consistency. For super soft hands I recommend rubbing a second amount of the cream into your hands before putting on cotton gloves. Yes I realise you will look a bit silly but it does help soften the skin. Quite a useful tip if winter has added to the battering your hands have taken. After all one of the ways you can guess someone's age is my looking at their hands so what's the point of taking good care of your face if your hands look rough?
Reading the back of the tube the softening ingredients are macadamia nut oil, honey and shea butter with myrrh to improve the condition of nails and cuticles. If you have a nut allergy then unfortunately this may be a product you might have to avoid.

      Cost and Availability
Crabtree and Evelyn have their own stand alone shops but they are also sold in department stores such as John Lewis. In addition you can also buy online and some Crabtree and Evelyn products have appeared on Amazon's deal list so it is possible to pick up a bargain. The hand cream retails for around the £9 mark for 50g tube which is a good hand bag sized tube and £14 for the 100g.

Despite not being initially very impressed by the look of this product it has become a firm favourite and is nearly always in my handbag so I can apply it easily. As my own one is starting to run put I am hoping one of my friends or family will be replace it at Christmas for me. After all a wise man once gave myrrh as a present and trying this product you will realise why it makes a good gift.
