I received a 25g bottle of this product as part of the gifts when subscribing for a magazine and was pleasantly surprised by its result!
- The package -
As I mentioned above, the one I received is a 25g bottle one. It is a travel size and the product is separately available in a 100ml bottle.
The package is also a bit different from the above. The product is now contained with a white plastic tube with the name and logo marked on them in dark brown colour.
- The product -
The product, as described by Crabtree & Evelyn, is a 60-second intensive hand recovery treatment which cleanses, exfoliates and moisturizes with a blend of sea salt, algae, shea butter and lavender oil. Your hands will feel noticeably softer and smoother immediately after applying the product.
To apply the product, all you need to do apply it to the dry hands. The product, being an exfoliator, is a bit difficult to spread over on the skin. You will feel that there are some grains in the cream and the texture is very rich. After rubbing the product on the hand for about 60 seconds, you can rinse them off with water.
- The result -
I find that my hands feel immediately smoother and softer once I rinse off the product and I am very surprised to see that. I love to use it immediately before I go to sleep and the result will last till the next day. While it is recommended that you should immediately apply the hand cream after rinsing off, I usually just leave it as it is and go to sleep. My hands still feel very smooth and soft when I wake up despite not having apply any hand cream the night before.
As with all other products in the La Source line, it has the classic La Source smell giving you a relaxing sea air feel.
I am in love with this product and the relaxing and smoothing effect it gives. I normally use it once a week and am always happy with the result! I would highly recommend it to everyone who has dry hands.

Hands feel immediately smoother and softer
Excellent for dry skin
Shea butter rich formula
The Scent is a relaxing sea air fragrance.
When you hands are really dry then this treatment really helps - when you apply it it is like a scrub with rough particles in it - you rub it into your hands then rinse your hands in warm water - results are amazing - soft and smooth moisturised hands.
Don't worry about the ingredients - this is a fantastic product with fantastic ingredients:
Sea salt (exfoliating), algae (conditioning) macadamia nut oil (moisturizing), shea butter (conditioning), lavender oil (soothing), colloidal oatmeal (soothing).
A little goes a long way and 100g of this treatment will last you for ages as a little goes a long way.
It comes in a plastic tibe with a screw top lid so it is easy to apply.
Great product, try it you might like it!
Thanks for reading my review.
I first tried and even heard of this when me and my friend were shopping at the Trafford Centre in Manchester and my friend was looking for a birthday present for her mum.
We went into the Crabtree & Evelyn store, which Id never actually been to never mind heard of. Its one of them shops that you never notice as a child, simply because there are no toys or colourful displays in the window. Anyways, so as we walked in there was a beautician offering us to sample the La Source Hand Recovery.
I did as I was told, wet my hand a little, applied the hand recovery, rubbed my hands together for about a minute and then rinsed my hands.
My hands felt instantly smooth, so so soft and tons better than they used to feel. Dont get me wrong, my hands arent usually rough as toast or anything, just normal. I could certainly tell the difference of my hands after using this amazing hand miracle worker!
The wash is white, soft and whas small bits in (I guess they are what make it work so well). I was so happy with the product, even though it was my friend who was looking for the present for her mum, I ended up buying a mini Crabtree & Evelyn La Source kit for my mum, just to be nice. I think I paid £9.00 for a 25ml La Source Hand Recovery Wash & the cream in 25ml.
I remember that after leaving the store, I couldnt stop touching my hands because they felt sooo good!
I really recommend this stuff. If you have hands that need abit of recovery, then this is definitely for you. If you have normal hands, this is also for you! This is for everyone! I love this stuff!
Crabtree & Evelyn La Source Skin Therapy Hand Recovery
After a day of gardening, my hands were grass stained, dirty and in need of some tender loving care to make them presentable enough for the office the next morning.
I reached for my trusty Crabtree & Evelyn La Source Skin Therapy Hand Recovery and am now writing this review with soft clean hands which feel like they have been pampered beyond belief!
From the La Source range by Crabtree & Evelyn collection, Hand Recovery is marketed as the ideal beauty rescue for hands with restorative mineral salts and nutrient-rich seaweeds.
It comes in a 100g / 3oz white tube with blue text and a shell design. This sits inside a white gift box when you buy it, reassuringly luxuriously packaged in white and light blue.
It costs £12.50 in Crabtree & Evelyn shops, but is also available online and also in various other gift shops, chemists and even garden centres.
Skin Therapy Hand Recovery is a scrub for hands.
You need to shake the tube vigorously before you start and apply a small amount (size of a 5p coin is fine as a little goes a long way). For best results, apply to dry hands - do not add water at this stage.
The scrub is white and contains white coloured grit to exfoliate and there is plenty of it in the paste. You need to use a "hand washing" motion when you have the scrub on you hands for a good 15 - 20 seconds - remember, no water at this stage.
After a few seconds more you will be desperate to add water, so rinse in warm fresh running water and get rid of all the gritty bits.
It is recommended not to use soap and there is an oily residue that is designed to moisturise and any soap would get rid of that - it is a pleasant oiliness, you won't feel compelled to use soap.
I usually towel dry at this point, then add my regular handcream on top, though you don't really need to as you will notice right away how soft and clean your hands feel.
You will also notice the fantastic clean cotton type smell of the scrub, which is absolutely divine.
After using this scrub, your hands will feel 100% better, no matter what state they were to begin with.
Mine got rid of the grass stains and made me feel feminine again. The skin on my hands felt clean, smooth and moisturised and the clean cotton smell stays on you for hours.
I wholeheartedly recommend this product when your hands need a pamper treatment.
The only minor irritant as if you keep your fingernails long, sometimes the grit can get stuck underneath and you would need to use an orange stick to remove.
This therapy can also be used on your feet to soften, cleanse and moisturise the skin, although it isn't marketed as such - its also a perfect pamper treatment for your tootsies.
I tried the La Source hand cream the other week and became a big fan, so I thought I would treat myself to the companion product of this Hand Therapy to see if I would be equally impressed. Having been told years ago that your hands are the first parts of your body to show signs of aging, I do try and look after them but have neither the time or the money for manicures, so was quite hooked by the marketing that this product was a "60 second fix".
You apply this product to dry hands, which feels takes a bit of getting used to. The product feels very very grainy when you apply it and really does feel quite harsh on your skin when you use it, so that part of the application isn't overly pleasant. However, the effects are worth it - it really is as if the scrub has polished away all the hard bits of your skin - very neat indeed and SO quick - I scrub away for maybe 10/15 seconds and it really does the job. After scrubbing, rinse away and the product lathers gently and leaves your hands feeling lovely and smooth and very delicately fragranced with the "sea breeze" type fragrance which matches the hand cream.
You do need to follow the use of this product with a moisturiser just to make your hands feel silky soft, which is why I am sure Crabtree and Evelyn market this product with the hand cream in the same range. Their "60 second" fix it gift set which contains 2 x 100ml tubes - one each of the hand cream and hand therapy is £22.50 from their website (although if you buy one you get another one half price). Alternatively, Amazon are selling just the Hand therapy for £10.
If your hands are hard working and in need of a treat without visiting a salon, I would definately recommend this product. Just use it once a week or so and your hands will feel very spoilt - mind you, once you start using it, you may just be hooked.
I'm well aware that my hands take a battering from the weather changes and household products and can age quickly if I don't look after them well. For years now I've made sure that I use a rich moisturising hand cream on a daily basis but for a while that was pretty much it as far as handcare went. Then I received La Source Hand Recovery as a gift last Christmas along with their Hand Therapy.
La Source is a range of hand, foot and body creams, gels and exfoliators produced by Crabtree and Evelyn which are designed as 'at-home spa therapies' made from a mix of shea butter, borage oil, peppermint, sea salts and minerals, algae and seaweed and said to be packed with nutrients.
Hand Recovery is an exfoliator for dry to normal hands which is designed to smooth and moisturise the skin to 'improve suppleness and youthful appearance'.
I received the full sized tube which is 3.5 fl. oz. and came in a white funny-shaped card box with the brand and product information marked in bright blue fonts on the front. Inside, the tube was very similar - a white flexible plastic tube, with a fliptop white lid and blue markings explaining the product and how to use it. To me the packaging is lovely - simple and looks quite posh sitting on your bathroom shelf!
To use Hand Recovery, squeeze a peanut size blob of the exfoliator onto your dry hands. Do not be tempted to use this on wet hands like you would with some facial scrubs. It has a much better effect on dry hands than wet (I've know, I've tried it and was highly disappointed!). The exfoliator is thick, white in colour and looks fairly gritty. Using a handwashing type motion, rub this product all over your hands. On doing so you'll notice that it is indeed very gritty and you'll be left with grains of sea salt stuck all over your hands. This treatment is meant to be quick and you should only rub the exfoliator in for 15-20 seconds but I love how it feels and can stand there a good minute or so wringing my hands together feeling the salt massage my palms and fingers. Once you feel like you've really gave your hands a good scrub, stick them under the tap and lightly rinse off the exfoliator. Then gently pat them dry with a towel. Make sure you don't rub them dry as if you do you'll not truely benefit from this product.
If you've followed my instructions correctly, you'll now be left with lovely, tingly, soft, smooth hands and if your like me at all, you'll not be able to stop looking at them and pressing your hands to your cheeks in amazement at how soft they feel!
You will notice a kind of thin oily layer left on the skin. Don't worry, this isn't greasy at all. I checked this by pushing my hands up against my glass desk at work and am pleased to say I wasn't left with any greasy paw prints at all! This layer, according to Crabtree and Evelyn, is a 'barrier to protect against moisture loss'. I've noticed that this 'barrier' lasts an hour or so as does the smell which is a lovely fresh, clean scent which reminds me of the sea. It's one of those smells which is very typical to sea mineral type products, if you familiar with them at all.
Although the oily layer does wear off after a while, you will notice that your hands feel very soft and smooth all day. However, I notice that if I use it on its own, once this layer has worn off, my hands actually feel quite dry so that 'barrier against moisture loss' doesn't last long.
Hand Recovery does not say on the tube that it should be used with any other product but since I received it together with their lovely Hand Therapy handcream I do slap this on afterwards and the combination of the two together leaves your hands soft, smooth and moisturised. On their website, apart from puchasing the items separately, you can also buy a '60 second' treatment pack which is the two products packed together so I guess they are designed to compliment each other even if it doesn't say so on the tube.
I really like this product. OK, I can't say I've noticed my hands looking any more youthful but I imagine that is a long term benefit of using this product but they do certainly feel softer and smoother after use.
At 12.50 UK pounds per tube, this is, in my opinion, an expensive hand product. However, it's not something you would use on a daily basis, more like two or three times a week, so it should last you quite a while. I see this as a 'special treat' product which you'd buy if you really fancied pampering yourself. If you didn't want to jump in and buy a full size tube to test, it would be a good idea to purchase the '60 second' pack which is 7.00 UK pounds for two 0.9 oz tubes, one of Hand Recovery and the other of Hand Therapy.
My tube has lasted me well over the year but with the weather getting colder and my hands getting dryer by the day, I may just finish this tube by the time Christmas comes around again. Fingers crossed Santa leaves me another tube in my stocking this year! I'll be making sure I add it to my list.....
