Advantages: Effectively cleanses hands

Disadvantages: Smells of dandelions!

I have a real passion for beauty products and love the opportunity of trying and testing something new. Whenever I'm out shopping I always look out for bargains and if I see any products on special offer I will bulk buy, so it is very rare that I will pay full price. A brand that I always consider to be superior is Imperial Leather, as I find their products to be very luxurious as well as reasonably priced. Whilst my husband and I use their bars of soap for bathing I prefer hand washes for placing next to the basins in our home, particularly as they are far easier to use and do not cause any mess. Whilst spending far too long in the beauty aisle in Tesco a couple of months ago my eyes were drawn to one particular product in the Imperial Leather Protecting Hand Wash range, namely Chamomile Care and this review discusses my experience.

We are presented with 300 ml of hand wash, which is contained within a unique shaped curvy transparent plastic bottle and it was the calming pale blue colour that captured my attention causing it to stand out from any of the other products in their hand wash range. In addition to the product containing chamomile milk, it was the cornflower extract that determined my purchase especially as I fell in love with the aroma when using a Boots product several years ago.

Unfortunately, I suffer with problematic skin on my hands, which can become extremely dry during the colder weather where it will split along my knuckles and subsequently bleed. Whilst I regularly apply intensive hand creams I need to be very careful with the products that I use, as anything containing a high perfume concentrate will cause the skin to become uncomfortable and itchy. As chamomile and cornflower are both natural ingredients I had the distinct impression that the hand wash would be caring for my skin, particularly as chamomile is known for its antibacterial properties and cornflower for its cleansing properties.

As with the majority of hand washes, the product is dispensed via a pump unit and I found that one press was sufficient to release enough for one hand wash. The wash offers a good consistency and a very mild floral aroma although on occasions I'm sure that I could smell dandelions, which give off a very distinct scent, which I can vividly recall from my childhood. However, my husband, whose sense of smell isn't particularly good, could only smell the delicate floral fragrance. The hand wash created a good lather when introduced to water and was effective at removing all traces of grease and grime. It was easily rinsed away without leaving any sticky residue and my hands felt thoroughly clean after using. However, I didn't particularly favour the aroma that lingered for a good while afterwards as I was still able to witness the strange scent of dandelions.

On a positive note, the hand wash did not exacerbate my skin complaint and whilst I always apply hand cream directly after hand washing, I did not find the product to be drying. A problem I encounter with many brands of hand wash is that the dispenser likes to drip little blobs after using, but I cannot speak of any issues with this product. Despite not being particularly fond of the aroma I continued to use the hand wash, as I cannot abide waste, but I cannot see my making a further purchase of this particular fragrance.

The hand wash generally retails at around £1.62, which is expensive for what it is, but at the time of writing, Tesco are offering a promotion on the entire Imperial Leather hand wash range where you can make a purchase for just £1. However, due to the reasons discussed above I will not be repurchasing Chamomile Care and due to the strange scent it receives only three stars from me with no recommendation.

I hope you found my review useful and thanks for reading.
