Cussons Imperial Leather Cotton Soft Hand Wash
Advantages: Effective at cleansing the skin
Disadvantages: Strange aroma and a little drying for me
I have a passion for gorgeous scented hand washes although it is very rare that I will spend more than a pound for each bottle, particularly as I will bulk buy when I see special offers, as it gives me the opportunity of trying more expensive brands at an affordable price. A brand that I have always rated highly is Imperial Leather, as I consider them to be experts in body care due to their consistency in producing high quality products with this review discussing their Cotton Soft Moisturising Hand Wash.
I favour the style of the sturdy transparent packaging, which offers a curvy and appealing shape with the bottle offering an eye-catching appearance when located next to the wash hand basin. Over the past twelve months or so, I have found that some toiletries that I had previously enjoyed using caused my skin to become dry and subsequently split. I suffer terribly with the skin on my hands due to it being extremely dry and as a result I regularly need to apply highly moisturising creams.
It was the reassuring information contained on the reverse of the packaging that led me to believe that the 300 ml bottle of hand wash would be gentle with Imperial Leather claiming that it has been dermatologically tested, skin friendly pH, hypoallergenic and is mild enough for the whole family. I was interested to discover that the ingredients of cotton milk and oat extract offer benefits to the skin with the cotton milk being known for its soothing benefits and oak extract for its natural moisturising properties.
The pump dispenser is easy to operate with a sufficient amount of the creamy formula hand wash being delivered with one press. However, I found its consistency to be a little too runny for my liking although this could well be due to the fact that I have been spoilt with my previous few hand washes being those belonging to Dove; a brand which I associate with sheer luxury. The initial aroma that met me was most desirable due to the cotton milk and oat; both of which are extremely authentic.
However, when rubbing the wash over the surface of my hands following the introduction of water, it seemed to take on a totally different scent, which reminded me of fabric plasters; an aroma I cannot bear! Whilst I would normally favour the aroma of a hand wash to intensify as it produces a good lather, I found it really peculiar, particularly as the initial fragrance is most desirable. Pushing my grumbles to the side, the hand wash was effective at removing dirt and grease although I cannot admit to ever having used any brand that is unable to achieve this. It was easily rinsed away without leaving any stickiness with the only reminder being that of the weird aroma, which lingered for approximately half an hour after using.
On a positive note, the surface of my skin felt soft and smooth to the touch after using without any patches of dryness although I did experience slight itching across the knuckles of my right hand, which is the area where my problem is at its worst. As a result, I felt it necessary for me to apply a layer of hand cream. Whilst Cotton Soft Moisturising Hand Wash carried out its job in terms of cleansing my hands, the aroma was awful and it was not moisturising enough for me, so I feel only a two star rating to be appropriate. The hand wash generally retails at around £1.62 per bottle, but at the time of writing you can make a purchase from Tesco for £1.
I hope you found my review useful and thanks for reading.
Summary: A disappointing hand wash from Imperial Leather
