“ Brand: Cuticura / Type: Hand Lotion / Suitable for: Hand „
Cuticura was one of the first brands of alcohol gel that widely became available in the wake of the initial discovery of the prevalence of MRSA. Reasonably priced, compact and easy to apply they soon caught on and became extremely popular as a sterilising tool when handwashing was unavailable or inconvenient. A lot of other brands and formats have followed on since. However, one problem with the conventional product is that regular use can be quite drying on the hands.
This is why I was quite intrigued by the introduction of this product, as it claims to have a 2 in one action, moisturising as well as cleaning as effectively as the previous incarnation of the product. Available from Boots and larger supermarkets, at £1.95 for 100ml it is slightly more expensive than the traditional Cuticura product which normally retails at about £1.35. However, as with the ordinary product, a little does go a long way so this is not a really tangible price difference in the grand scheme of things.
On the face of it, it looks really similar packaging wise. However the actual product inside is a very aqua blue colour and not transparent. As before, it is contained within a sturdy yet squeezable plastic bottle, with a secure flip top lid.
It has a slightly milder, but still pleasant scent. The texture is a little different than the conventional version only in that it is slightly less runny. The most noticeable difference you will find is when you rub it between your palms. It is quite slimy to begin with, almost as though you have a small amount of liquid soap on your hands . This does feel a bit weird but disappears quickly after some rapid rubbing in. Once you have finished rubbing it in as it has dried completely, you can definitely feel a distinct smoothness. I would not say it was moisturising as such, compared to something like a conventional handcream, but there is definitely not the dryness and occasional subsequent discomfort that you would ordinarily get with the conventional alcohol gels.
The scent is quite strong on your skin and does linger, that said I think that the scent that it reminds me of is that of the conventional Wet Wipes fragrance, so a clean fresh smell rather than something completely overpowering.
As somebody who uses alcohol gels a lot for convenience, I have noticed that the slight moisturising qualities of this have made a tangible difference to the condition of my skin, where the regular type would have left my palms feeling quite sore
All, in all, this does what it says on the bottle, and leaves your hands clean without feeling dry and is a really convenient way to freshen up on the move or when it is not convenient to use soap and water. I now buy and use this product over other alcohol gels
