Cuticura Citrus Hand Hygeine Gel
Advantages: A good hand gel that smells fresh and cleans hands
Disadvantages: Harder to get the gel out the less there is
Though my everyday bag is quite small one item I have to have in there and find essential is a hand gel. I find them so practical, and they tend to take up little space so always have one for when I'm on the go and have tried many brands and have yet to be disappointed in any so far.
What drew me to this one by Cuticura was the fact it is still an anti bacterial gel but it is also fragranced with citrus, and though I don't have a problem with the generic anti- bac scent that normally accompanies these gels I must say the reason this appealed to me when I saw it was because of the citrus fragrance it claims to have.
*~*Price, packaging & Availability*~*
The packaging for this hand gel differs to my last choice as opposed to it being in a tube it comes housed in a rectangular, upright standing bottle. The access is gained from a flip top lid which is perched directly on the top and apart from the lid and the logo being in a bold blue colour, the bottle itself is a soft yet sturdy plastic which is totally clear and the contents are therefor completely visible.
The size of this is 100 ml's and cost wise I paid £1.59 from my local Superdrug store over 6 months ago and there is still just under half of the contents left.
Availability wise I have seen this brand in large pharmacies, supermarkets and even discount shops such as Poundstretcher so it is widely available and costs anything from £1 upwards.
This gel claims to ".. stop bacteria spreading on the hands as well as being an effective and hygienic alternative to washing hands when soap/ water is not readily available.."
*It states it is proven to kill 99.99% of bacteria
*Dries in seconds and is non sticky
*Leaves hands clean and free of bacteria whilst feeling refreshed
*~*My experience of using this*~*
I first started using these products when I had my first baby and kept a bottle in with the changing bag and I can't say I've ever had any negative experiences with any hand gel, apart from some leave my skin slightly drier than others but not in an uncomfortable way. As mentioned what drew me to this was the fact it's fragranced with a citrus aroma and even though I paid slightly more than I usually would it did lure me in.
On opening the lid there is an obvious 'hand gel aroma' and at first it reminded me of the ones placed in the corridors of hospitals and though not entirely unpleasant it wasn't what I would call citrus based either.
On squeezing a small amount out of the bottle into each hand I found that the gel was transparent though it did have a slight yellow/ orange hue to it. The texture is quite silky whilst the consistency is incredibly watery, which surprised me somewhat given it looks to be a much thicker gel whilst still in the bottle.
On rubbing into my hands I found the hand gel literally melted away, and unlike other brands it seemed to dry much quicker also. Once I started to rub my hands together I noticed the citrus scent which was very fresh and had a clean and had a real 'tang' to it giving the illusion that my hands were cleaner.
I really like this and haven't got anything overly negative to say about it really. I found the lid to open with ease and also closed securely enough after each application which gave me peace of mind whilst the bottle was being 'bashed about' in my bag, and I can vouch that it has never spilled or leaked (up to press anyway).
The gel itself does seem to dry quicker and very little actual rubbing seems to be needed so is very convenient if using public toilets or just general freshening up of hands is required, and though I do prefer to wash my hands with actual soap and water when this isn't convenient then I do feel confident that my hands are being cleaned as thoroughly as able and using this is a good 'runner up'.
The only slight negative, if that's what you can even call it, is that as the product starts to get used up I am finding it harder each time to get the gel out of the bottle. Despite it being made of a soft and squeezy plastic it seems that the choice to house it in a bottle is perhaps not the wisest as I think a tube would have been more practical.
That aside though, the bottle takes up very little space and is really quite compact when stored in my bag and is an extremely handy product to have (pardon the pun) whilst on the go and I wouldn't be without a bottle/ tube. It is such a relief to know if my hands need to be cleaned where water/ soap isn't readily available then at least I have good old Cuticura to hand (again, no pun intended).
This is one of the better hand gels I have used and not only cleans my hands thoroughly (or so I'm led to believe) but the added addition of a citrus fragrances actually makes me feel that my hands are cleaner after each application.
It dries quickly, doesn't overly dry my skin, causes no soreness or rashes and leaves my hands feeling refreshed so is perfect for me, plus a little really goes a long way so a bottle will last me over 6 months even with constant use.. but that's just my opinion so try it out for yourself I don't think you will be disappointed.

4 out of 5 shiny stars from me as it does get more difficult to get the gel out the less there is though the actual performance of the product actually rates a full 5 out of 5.
Summary: A handy product for on the go
