Dettol Anti Bacterial Handwash
I recently bought a bottle of the 'New Formula' dettol antibacterial hand wash. I should point out the new formula comes in a more square looking bottle, that still has a pump dispenser on the top. The product is still a nice creamy white colour, which is easily seen through the clear plastic bottle that it comes in.
The thing that first attracted me to the product was the smell - I tend to have a quick sniff of hand soaps on the shop floor to make sure they don't smell horrid. It is apparently made with aloe, and milk protein - which has a smell is clean and fresh - not flowery and too girly for my boyfriend to cope with.
The product states that it will kill 99.9% of bacteria - so a good soap to have ready to use when handling raw meat etc. As far as I can tell this seems to be working - however I don't happen to have a super microscope handy to fully confirm the statement.
Personally for me this is where the end of the good attributes come to an end with this hand soap - I had previously bought the refresh (orange) version of this hand soap, and forgotten the problem we had with it - until I started using this product. With this at least it was less apparent due to the colour... It seems to be, well water proof - or at least water resistant... I know this seems mad - but bear with me.... I will for a moment refer back to the orange version of the soap to better illustrate my point. We have a white sink, and when using the product it seems to form globules, and literally run of our hands. Kind of drying on the surface of the sink in big orange streaks, and then becoming really difficult to budge without a paint scraper.... (The scraper may be a little of an exaggeration, but you get the idea).... The issue is the same with the white version, it is however a little less obvious as it blends with the white of the enamel...
Due to the escape of this water resistant soap, it doesn't last very long... About a week a bottle with two people who work full time in the house... Usually a 250ml bottle of hand soap will last at least two, it not three... It was a bargain at only £1 from ASDA - however I can't recommend it...
Firstly-I would like to make a note that I am reviewing on the Dettols new hand wash formulas as they have recently changed in regards to packaging and ingredients.
Before children, my handwash type was very different.Firstly, my budget was higher and secondly, what I required from a handwash was different. I would love to use products such as Molton Brown and L'Occitane handwash. Not being a snob, but I loved the smells, loved the look and always bought them at a fantastic price. Now what I need is something more affordable, more importantly has some antibacterial properties to it and doesnt strip the skin of moisture. Why?Nappy changes, constant cleaning and hands in and out of water, plus a spell of psoriasis on my hands means I need something that isnt going to make it worse. I would normally purchase a lesser known brand at a cheaper price, but that one wasnt available, so as this one was on special offer at the time, 99p, I grabbed it!
The thing I love about the brand Dettol is its been around for such along time. Before we all heard and some of us experienced things such as MRSA, Superbugs, they were the original company that in my mind had championed the antibacterial element and killing bugs and germs. Roll on however many years later, and everyone is doing it, whether its in handwashes, hand gels, but thats the sign of the times.
This product comes in 250ml bottle. The new version of Dettol handwash is different mainly in the packaging. Still has the pump action dispenser, but the shape of the bottle is much more modern and up to date. Has a slight curve in the sides so for me easier to hold. The actually labelling is clear, simple and doesnt completely cover the bottle itself, whcih I think is a nice touch. You will know when your getting close to finishing it!
The new formula now comes in 7 new fragrances:
All the titles give a clear indiction of what the product is meant to do and gives an idea on how it would smell.
The fragrance I purchased was the Moisture handwash, so will be commenting on that. It kills 99.9 bacteria and removes viruses. It contains aloe vera and milk protein which aid in giving moisture to the skin and are soothing. Its very gentle and kind to the skin with the fragrance not being overwhelming, but you can definitely smell it even after awhile of using it which is nice. The scent smells fresh, crisp and has a sweet apple like fragrance to it. Whether is has that in it or not I dont know, but thats the closest my nose can get.
How to use-I think this is actually important, as to be honest I never read this and will be following this alot more. Wet hands and dispense two pumps of the product into the hand. Rub together for at least 36 seconds s hands are completely covered in lather, making sure this includes nails and thumbs. Im assuming this is to make sure you get the killing bacteria and germs action to be effective.
My experince is this product is easy to use. lathers and smells well. Fragrance lasts awhile on the hands. Product doesnt strip my hands, so doesnt feel dry. The downside for me is they really do need to make this product in a 500ml version. 250ml wont last long in my house as I use it all the time and so do the children-so would like something bigger and at a fair price.
** Dettol Anti-Bacterial Handwash **
Dettol is a brand of Reckitt Benckiser. It produces and sells food, household products, cleaning products and health and personal care. The brand 'Dettol' is best known for it's anti-bactericidal. They work with Chloorxylenol and are not toxic to humans, although it can cause skin irritation for some people.
The bottle with the pump has a capacity of 250 ml. The bottle is about 10 cm high (including pump 16 cm) and is around centimetres deep. It's a good size bottle that you can place it almost anywhere. I am thinking on the counter at the washbasin in the toilet or the sink in the bathroom. The pump I think of a decent quality. The bottle itself is transparent with a full colour imprint. Most important is the familiar logo of Dettol. It is also mentioned that it helps prevent the spread of bacteria and that it contains cotton milk and chamomile.
The smell of this hand soap is soft and a little bit sour. I recognize also a nut or almond scent. The scent fits well with at least the appearance of the soap pump. I find the smell very nice. It smells a little soft and chic. And by the smell but also by the colour, this hand soap is perfect for example in the toilet. The colour of the hand soap is a soft salmon colour or beige. It looks a bit like a luxury, milk-like product.
This nourishing of Dettol Healthy Touch Hand Soap soothes and takes care your hands, but whether this is due to the cotton and dairy chamomile I do not know. The soft, elegant scent of this hand soap is something I really like. A really good and useful hand soap.
+ A soft, fresh scent
+ Cleanse your hands thoroughly
I first started using this when there was all the hype about the swine flue and keeping your hands immaculately clean, so maybe I went overboard but this was one of the products I was glad I bought
It comes in an oval shaped container that is see through and on the top it has a pump dispenser to get the hand wash out.
The original dettol is white in colour although they do do other fragrances.
The hand wash claims to kill 99.9% of bacteria, and with little ones around this is a must for any family. I know that you can't wrap them in cotton wool, but with hand hygiene I wanted to make sure they were washing them properly and with the correct stuff.
So as I stated the liquid is white in colour and is quite thick in consistency, but still runny enough to be able to leak out if you leave the bottle tipped upside down.
It is said to be made with milk protein and aloe vera, I can't really say much for the milk protein but you can certainly smell the aloe vera, it is very light but the smell is definitely there
The good thing about this product is that you only need a small amount and it foams up really well on your hands. As you start working the mixture in you really get the scent of the aloe vera.
One rinsed and dried, it's nice to find a hand wash that leaves the scent on your hands! It leaves them smelling really fresh and clean. I also found that it makes your hands quite soft and feeling moisturised which may have something do with the milk proteins it is made from.
As stated above, of all the product I bought in the swine flue crisis, this is the main thing I have continues to use, its great for all the family and you can pick it up for £1 if you shop in the right places (mine came from Tesco)
I bought it about 6 months ago and I am only just running out, so really it's been costing me about 3p a week to wash mine and my family's hands!
Now if that isn't a bargain I don't know what is!
I would defiantly recommend this product to you all, its not a fancy product and is quite plain to look at, but for the sake of hygiene I would rather know it is helping kill bacteria than leave some posh expensive scent that will wear off after an hour or so anyway.
I have always kept a handwash in my w.c. I did use to buy a pretty basic one but with all the talk of swine flu this year, I splashed out and bought an anti-bacterial one.
Dettol now do a good range of handwashes and the one I picked up was Dettol Anti-Bacterial Nourish Handwash. The other main wording on the bottle is 'Healthy Touch' and after using it for a good month now, I can confirm that it really is kind on your hands.
Dettol Nourish handwash comes in a lovely cotton milk and camomile fragrance, which is very delicate. It leaves your hands feeling soft, clean and lightly fragranced.
The most important thing for me about this handwash and the reason I bought it, is that it's anti-bacterial. It kills 99.9% of bacteria, including cold and flu viruses and with the latest flu scare, I wanted that little extra protection for myself and my family.
Dettol Anti-Bacterial Nourish Handwash comes in a 250ml bottle, with a handy pump actual dispenser. I use about the size of a 2 penny coin and work it all around my hands. It has a creamy texture, which feels lovely and soothing. It lathers gently and is easy to work all around your hands and between your fingers.
I don't know for sure how well this anti-bacterial handwash works, but no-one has had even as much as a cold this winter, although there is still a while to go.
I have already bought another bottle of this, as the first one is almost finished and I would highly recommended it. As a handwash in general, it is kind on your hands and has a lovely fragrance. As an anti-bacterial handwash, it is protecting you against bacteria, which can quickly spread and cause illness in your family.
I bought my bottle in Tesco, where 250ml costs £1, but until 16/02/10, you can buy 4 bottles for £3.
We always have a bottle of handwash standing beside the kitchen sink, there are so many times during the course of a day that we go out to put something in the Wheelie Bin or we are in and out to the garden or the shed and it is good to know that you can easily wash and cleanse your hands thoroughly.
I used to use a bar of everyday soap but it was annoying, the soap kept slipping off the dish and falling into the kitchen sink, not too good an idea if you were busy preparing your vegetables.
So a pump dispenser is the ideal solution to the problem. At first I started buying ordinary scented liquid soaps but quickly realised that the anti bacterial type was the most appropriate for me.
The Dettol Moisture anti bacterial handwash dispenser does have a clinical look to it, a white plastic bottle with a pump dispenser. To the front of the bottle there is the comforting and familiar Dettol logo and the bottle label contains basic product information. Only a small amount of liquid soap will pass through the pump at any one time, a good idea as you only need to use as small amount , so it saves wasting any.
Though the soap is kind to your skin it does kill almost any bacteria that may be lurking about. Dettol moisture soap contains Aloe Vera and milk protein and there is no one ingredient that actually gives you a defined fragrance, all you might say is that it smells fresh and clean but not clinical.
When you pump a little of the liquid soap onto your palm it looks `pearly` and feels silky, it doesn't create a high volume of lather but amply covers your hands in a cleansing foam.
Aloe Vera has always been highly regarded for its healing powers, it is used externally for abrasions, insect bites and burns and is taken internally for stomach problems and to help strengthen the immune system.
The Anti bacterial handwash has been dermatologically tested. Anyone who is forever pottering in and out of the garden could use this handwash and feel confident that their hands were clean and sterile enough to start any food preparation.
I think the Dettol Surface spray is the latest thing since sliced bread, it keeps kitchen worktops and surfaces clean and germ free. I very rarely have the need to buy it but I love the smell of the Dettol disinfectant too.
Dettol has a vast range of products including disinfectants, sprays, floor wipes, air fresheners, disinfectants and handwashes.
A 250 ml Dettol handwash costs around £1.90, so it maybe does work out more expensive than some other brands, but a single pump dispenser will last me over a month.
Fifty pence a week for clean germ free hands? Not too bad!
Dettol handwash is a great antibacterial handwash. They do a whole range of different handwashes, the one I most recently purchased was the healthy touch refresh handwash.
The handwash comes in a nice circular bottle. It contains 250ml of the handwash. It also has an easy to use pump dispenser. There are very clear instructions on the bottle on how to operate the pump dispenser. Also the great thing about a pump dispenser is that it prevents cross contamination of bacteria. The one I bought was a pretty yellow colour. The bottle was a great shape and had a strudy base so it was easy to use without picking the bottle up.
The bottle has all the important information needed when looking for a great handwash. It Kills 99.9% of bacteria. It is dermotologically tested. I have placed this handwash in the kitchen as the bottle read as this was the best place for this handwash. It says it is great for removing grease and odours from hands. So this sounded ideal for kitchen use.
This handwash contains Grapefruit extracts. It smells lovely when you use it. It has a lovely fresh grapefruit smell. It is very refreshing. The liquid is a nice consistency and foams nicely when used. It leaves my hands feeling cleansed and refreshed. They feel soft and moisturized after using and have a lovely fresh smell too.
The range is available in 5 fragrances: Moisture, Nourish, Refresh, Soothe and Cleanse.
The handwash is available from the supermarket and at the moment is on special offer 2 for £3.
With the normal price being £1.97.

I have the new Dettol anti bacterial handwash which is in the same bottle but it's called Dettol Nourish. The fragrance I have is cotton milk and comomile and it is truly divine. This handwash says conditioning and protecting. I have problems with my hands which are very dry and sore, but this handwash does do what it says on the bottle, condition and protect! This handwash is good for all the family as it kills 99.9 percent of bacteria. The bottle is very easy to use as it has a pump which is very 'handy'! There is three of us in my household which use it constantly and I can honestly say it lasts over a month. There is 250 ml in the bottle. A little squirt goes a long way. I have tried the 'moisture' Dettol handwash and I found that very pleasant too. These bottles are a good size, I have one on my bathroom sink and one on my windowsil where my kitchen sink is, that way I know my family will remember to use it and be protected from bacteria.
I have tried SO MANY hand wash products, so for me to say that I absolutely LOVE this new Dettol Refresh Anti Bacterial Handwash is quite something!! It's literally "refreshing" to use & it's not as drying as a lot of other products. It has a delightful scent which is not overpowering at all. A+ Best One Yet 4 Me :-) I'll be buying another refill as soon as I return to the supermarket, that's for sure!!
