A luxurious and refreshing hand wash from Dove

Whilst I have a few firm favourites when it comes to hand washes, I will only buy them when they are on special offer as it is very rare that I will pay more than £1 a bottle. I am a huge fan of Dove, particularly as their products are always of a high quality as well as living up to their claims. As a result, I was delighted to see their entire hand wash range discounted at Tesco a few months ago, which gave me the opportunity to bulk buy my favourite fragrances with this review discussing Go Fresh Energise Grapefruit and Lemongrass.

I find the appearance of Dove products particularly eye catching with their calming colours and familiar shiny silver dove emblem. I chose this particular fragrance as I favour refreshing uplifting scents for hand washing and after discretely unscrewing the lid and taking a sneaky sniff in the store I fell in love with the authentic aroma. I would previously decant all of my hand washes into china dispensers although I've become a little lazy and find the packaging of many brands far superior to my dispensers.

We are provided with 250 ml of hand wash in a sturdy plastic white coloured container with a pale lemon dispensing unit. The simple design of a luscious looking lemon adorned with a sprig of lemongrass makes this product enticing and conjures up images of clean and fresh. The dispensing unit is easy to operate and following a few presses, the creamy hand wash is released. I always find the consistency of Dove hand washes a little thicker than other brands. However, this does not create any difficulties with the lathering process, as the product creates a sufficient lather within a few seconds of being introduced to water.

The fragrance of both grapefruit and lemon grass are both very authentic and as I suspected they are very refreshing and uplifting making this a good hand wash for the kitchen, particularly as the strong citrus fragrances assist in neutralising food odours on the hands. The hand wash is highly effective at removing all traces of grease and grime without drying the skin, which has been my experience with a few other brands offering citrus aromas. The product is easily rinsed away without leaving any greasy or sticky residue. I suffer terribly with my hands, which are dry and will frequently split along the knuckles and subsequently bleed. However, I cannot report of suffering any issues when using as after each use my hands always feel soft and silky smooth.

If I were to find one negative with this product is that its thick consistency isn't really necessary, as I find that one pump of the dispenser releases a little more product than is actually needed. On a positive note, the dispenser does not drip after using, which is something I had not expected, particularly with such a thick hand wash. I favour the fact that the grapefruit and lemongrass remains on my skin for a short time after use without being too overpowering. The hand wash also offers a good level of moisturisation so I do not feel the need to apply hand cream after using.

It is claimed on the reverse of the bottle that the hand wash is suitable for facial cleansing, which is something I've never seen on any other brand, so intrigued to try it out I washed my face with the product on a good few occasions. I must admit that I was pleasantly surprised, as my T-zone skin is prone to dryness on my cheeks and I found the hand wash to be very gentle and I was able to witness its highly moisturising properties.

For the reasons discussed above, I can definitely recommend this hand wash, which should be used within 12 months of opening with the packaging being recyclable once empty. However, I would not pay the £2.20 price tag, but until 15 October 2012 Tesco are offering all of the Dove hand washes at half price.

I hope you found my review useful and thanks for reading.
