“ Brand: Elemis / Type: Hand Repair / Suitable for: Hand / What it does: Repairs, „
After reviewing the vitamin rich body moisturiser by Elemis I realised that one of their products that I always use and carry with me was the Intensive hand repair cream and yet I had not reviewed it!.
When I was first training in the beauty industry one of my mentors that I learned such a lot from had the most beautiful and soft pair of hands that I had even seen and when I commented on them she told me to always use a rich hand cream every morning and every night and a few times in between and since that day I have and I used a lot of different brands over the years but after discovering this one I have never used any other.
As I dont want to repeat myself if you would like more background information on Elemis its on my previous review
===== The Product ====
Elemis intensive repair hand cream comes in a deep blue tube and has a sliver screw off lid.
It claims to keep your hands soft and youthful and the product contains powerful antioxidants including melissa and barley. I was not actually aware of melissa but it is sometimes known as Lemon Balm and is a very power antioxidant and also has soothing properties.
It also contains of extracts of Myrrh which strengthens the nails and conditions the cuticles and there is also the wonderful aloe vera which sooths and extracts of linden flower which acts a moisturizing agent.
===== The Results =====
I am writing this part as though I have just used the product for the first time as I feel that this is better from the view of someone looking at buying the product.
When you open the tube the cream inside is cream in colour and has the texture of a rich cream.
As soon as it is applied it works to instantly sooth and calm your skin this is particularly noticeable if you have just come in from the cold or have wash and dried your hands.
The cream sinks in almost immediately which I was surprised by as with rich cream it take take some rubbing to get the cream to vanish.
After applying there was no residue left over and my hand did not have the sticky feel that you have after using a hand product however on touching my hands I realized that they feel like velvet and the smoothness is noticeable.
The smoothness lasts for a long time although I do like to top it up every now and again especially after washing my hands.
It also worth noting that I gave this as a gift to my friends grandma and she said her age spots had faded slightly with continued use of the cream.
===== My Conclusion =====
I think that this is one of the best hand cream out there. I appreciate that it is expensive but as your hands and neck are the first places to show damage and ageing I think that it is a worthwhile investment for that reason alone.
I find that my hands are very smooth all day and many people have commented on my soft and smooth hands and ask me what I use.
I do spend a lot of time out doors and am always washing dishes and my hands do not suffer.
===== Price =====
Mine cost me approx £24.00 for the 6ml tube but its worth saying that you only need a tiny amount of the product as a little really does go along way.
===== Hand Care Tips =====
If your hands are really dry or rough and chapped apply your hand cream at night but rather than rubbing it in just stroke the cream on and then get some cotton or very fine gloves and wear them overnight and this allows the cream to really sink in as the warmth will make the cream really penetrate the skin. this is also great for you feet if you have dry and hard skin.
Dry not to have your hands in water for long if this can not be helped than make sure if its the dishes you wear gloves or if washing your hands use a mild soap with a moisturizing agent and gently dry your hands but don't rub.
Always wear gloves if its cold outside and try not to expose your hands to all the elements pollutants in the environment.
Oh dear, i definitely have to go against the majority opinion on this one!
I received the small tube (20ml) size of this as part of an Elemis gift set for Christmas last year. As my usual hand cream (Vaseline Intensive Care) had just run out, I put it by my bed and started using it every night.
~ The product ~
The cream contains Myrrh extract which is supposed to strengthen nails, and Malachite (whatever that is, to be honest i'm not even sure!!) is supposed to combat ageing by stimulating collagen and elastin in the skin. As with all the Elemis products, the tube looks smart and high end, although the screw cap was a bit of a nuisance to get back on when i'd just applied the cream!
The cream itself was white, thickish consistency and did smell very pleasant, i assume from the aromatherapy ingredients. It smoothed over my skin nicely and absorbed fairly quickly, although i found that i needed quite a lot of it for a single application.
~ The results ~
Were, basically, just OK. The cream was nice to use and smelt expensive, and yes my hands were reasonably soft in the morning - very similar though really to my old Vaseline hand cream. I didn't see any significant change in the condition of my nails, the lines on my hands, or some slight pigmentation i have from sun damage - though that could be because the tube lasted such a short time (i'd say about 2 weeks max) that maybe i wasn't getting the full effects yet.
I quite liked the cream, and had a look at various online sources to get some more when it ran out. I was absolutely amazed to discover that the "full" size - still only 75ml, which isn't all that much - would have cost me around £40 RRP, and not that much less on ebay. Frankly, they have to be kidding - for that money, i'd be expecting the hands of a 15-year-old overnight. So, that's why i'm rating this one so low - nothing wrong with it if it was a tenner or less, but in my opinion the actual price is crazy.
This is probably the best hand cream I have ever had - the only problem is that it works out quite expensive. I have really dry hands and so end up having to put hand cream numerous times during the day.
You don't need very much of this product - it really does go a long way. A small blob will leave your hands feeling silky smooth and not in the east bit dry - there is no greasy residue left on my hands.
The scent is not excessively overpowering either. It is quite a fresh scent - but not flowery. The consistency of the creram is great - not too thick that you can't rub it in effectively and not too runny that it pours through you fingers.
The only thing that prevents me buying it all the time is the price, especially as I have fairly recently found that a good body shop hand cream - so I now keep this hand cream for days when my hands are feeling really dry and need a bit of TLC
Another parcel just arrived for me and inside was a load of Elemis goodies for me to try, of which this product was one of them!
I can't praise this enough,it has made my skin feel like velvet!
The smell is ok, it's not particularly amazing but nothing bad, I can't really describe the smell of it - certainly not a fruity smell and not flowery either!
To use this product, you need to have clean and dry hands, using a pea size amount of the product, rub between your hands until it's all gone.
After using this product my hands were noticibly softer and any dryness around the nails had been soothed. My hands weren't left greasy as they are usually with other similar products.
The price, I would imagine to be quite expensive, however I bought this as part of a set which made it quite a lot cheaper. I looked on the Elemis site but can't find this for sale individually.
The ingredients of this product contain anti-oxidents Melissa and Barley which helps give hands a youthful look. The extracts of Myrrh help condition the cuticles and aloe vera soothes dry and chapped hands.
I couldn't coment on the youthful look promise as i'm only 18, but my Mum has recently been using it and she now loves it!
I do like this product and doesn't make my hands greasy at all like other products do, but I think it would be quite expensive to buy this all the time - the smell of it could also be improved.
Elemis is a brand I love. The products are a little bit more expensive than your usual top brand cosmetics but I am yet to find a product that they make that I dont like or dont think works.
I have very poor skin on my hands; its not only super sensitive but also can be very dry and cracked due to my eczema. Which means I have two problems my skin is so sensitive that I cant use hand creams and my hands are so dry with eczema that I need to use a hand cream! So since I had already tried using elemis products on my face I thought I'd try out their hand cream.
It cost me £29.00 on their timetospa.co.uk website which does sound expensive however it lasts forever!! Well its lasted me 6months anyway - which seems forever especially as I use it twice a day everyday. You only need a tiny amount of the product which makes it economical .
The cream itself comes in a smart royal blue tube which I believe is because it is part of the 'aroma spa' range. It has a gorgeous smooth and rich texture and a delightful aroma which is mostly lavendar based.
I have found that since using this my hands havent 'cracked' at all and are very smooth. Not only has it improved the condition of my hands 300% it also didnt sting or hurt me at all when my hands were cracked.
I'd recommend this product most highly to anyone with poor hand condition.
When I was growing up I lived in a hot climate and enjoyed endless hot sunny days. However now I am paying the price as my fair skin especially on my hands shows signs of sun damage. I also suffer from dry, chapped hands especially in the winter. I have a friend who works in a beauty salon and she recommended I try Elemis intensive hand repair cream.
The cream comes in a dark blue box with white writing. Inside is a dark blue tube with white lid. Inside the box I was pleased to find a small free sample tube of Skin buff.
On reading the information leaflet provided I noted that Elemis claim great things for this cream! It is said to contain powerful anti-oxidants, Melissa and Barley to help protect my hands from every day pollutants. The cream also contains malachite to help stimulate the production of collagen and elastin, to help make my hands look younger. The best news for me however was that this cream skin lightening Lemon and Bearberry to help fade sun brown spots. In addition the cream contains Linden flowers and Aloe Vera to help moisturise and myrrh to help strengthen your cuticles and nails.
With such ambitious claims I decided to do a bit of research, as I had never heard of some of the ingredients.
Bearberry has antibacterial qualities and was used as an anti-septic before antibiotics were discovered. Lemon too acts as an anti septic as does myrrh. Linden flowers can help with itchy skin, often associated with chapped hands. I knew that aloe Vera was good for moisturising. I was intrigued to read that malachite is also known as copper carbonate, a green coloured mineral. I have not been able to find any useful information about Melissa or barley. Having looked up all the ingredients I was feeling a bit sceptical about whether this cream would really make a difference!
However despite my misgivings I decided to use the cream on a regular basis to see if it could help my poor dry hands.
The cream itself is white and doesn't feel greasy like some hand creams I have tried. I Like the scent of the cream but am not sure how to describe it. It is over perfumed but smells slightly of Myrrh. The instructions say that this cream can be used sparingly throughout the day. It absorbs easily and my hands immediately felt softer and moisturised after I had applied the cream.
I have sensitive skin and the cream hasn't caused any adverse reaction. Elemis also suggests the cream can be used overnight for very dry skin problems. If you want to try this they suggest you apply the cream generously and wear a pair of cotton gloves. I haven't tried doing this yet so can't comment.
I have been using this cream for about 4 months now and have to say I am impressed with the results. My hands certainly feel softer and are a lot less dry than they were. My nails too seem to break less, so top marks here!
The brown sunspots on my hands unfortunately look the same, so a bit disappointing on this count. This is a very expensive hand cream retailing at around £34. It is not widely available but can be bought from many beauty salons where Elemis is used. The tube contains 75 ml of cream. It is also available from some web sites.
Overall I would recommend this hand cream, even with its high price tag!
