Advantages: Affordable, Does the job.

Disadvantages: Smell is not great, Doesn't clean the hands thoroughly.

Normally I like to do a few small shops within the week, but last week I opted to do one big shop that could last me the whole week, and to stock up on various household essentials which I needed. Whilst trawling through ASDA, I went through the beauty section and thought that I may as well pick up some necessities rather than having to buy them from another store such as Boots like I normally do. There was not much in the way of choice as far as hand wash was concerned, but I noticed that ASDA did their own little range and they looked quite interesting so I thought I'd give them a go.

I think there was about three or four on offer, and all of them looked quite oriental and interesting. These are only £1.00 which is a pretty reasonable price for a hand wash. I had a look at some of the scents available and to be honest not many really stood out to me. I had a quick sniff of a sweet, chocolate smelling one and it was far too sickly. I then spotted this hibiscus flower and lemon grass hand wash hidden at the back of the shelf and thought I would give it a go, as it was only £1.00 so I didn't have much to lose.

As you can see from the image, it is a green liquid within a clear bottle. The packaging is quite lovely considering it is an ASDA's own brand hand wash, and I don't think anyone would be able to guess it was just off the initial look of it. Although at the bottom it does state that it is exclusive to ASDA but not really a big deal as long as it does the job. You get 300ml worth of hand wash which is a decent amount, and it comes with a pump dispenser.

To use it, you simply have to twist the cap until it's open, and this is good because when it is closed and you're carrying it around in your trolley or the hand wash is bashing around in the carriers, it does mean that you can expect no leakage from it. I do often find these a nightmare though to open because you can be twisting for hours and nothing comes out. I had no problem with opening this and it was very simple. To use it, place your hand under the pump and I would say that one or two is sufficient to clean all of your hands, and this means that a little does go a long way and that it lasts much longer which is great as I live on my own. The hand wash comes out at a good speed and does not shoot out like some do so it is not messy at all.

When applied to damp hands, it does lather up okay and cleans the hands reasonably well. However, I do not feel that it cleans them particularly thoroughly and that it is just a pretty average hand wash compared to many other branded ones. Although due to the scent of it you would expect it to be luxurious, there are no added perks of this. It does not really leave the hands feeling smoother and it cleans them to a pretty minimum standard I would say. It does the job if you are on a budget, but I would rather pay that little more to get a better quality hand wash.

Obviously one of the things which made me purchase this was the fairly unique scent of it. Hibiscus flower and lemon grass are not scents I would normally pick, as I prefer usually quite clean, floral scented hand wash, but I thought I would give it a go. It does have an oriental smell but it is not as lovely as I would hoped. The smell does not last on the hands when you wash it, and to be honest it is not that pleasant anyway and could be a little nicer. The smell just really is not up to the standards which I was expecting, and I have to admit that none of the other scents in the range are particularly nice. Don't get me wrong, it is not horrific and it is tolerable, however I would just much prefer something that leaves the hands smelling lovely and smooth.

Although this was only £1.00, I was expecting a lot better from ASDA. Unfortunately the scent just is not up to scratch, and the hand wash only does the bare minimum which you can expect. This does not leave the hands feeling much cleaner than previously, and I do not think I will be repurchasing this again. Sorry ASDA, but it is a two stars from me. Thanks for reading.

Summary: A hand wash I will not be buying again.
