Advantages: Leaves hands soft and hydrated
Disadvantages: Should be available in a larger size, not instantly effective on very dry hands
Anyone who suffers from dryness of the hands will understand the discomfort that course, dry skin can cause, particularly around the finger tips and nails, which left untreated can result in the affected areas becoming chapped, tender and/or painful. Being blessed with fine weather over the past month has meant I have been frequenting the garden more often, tidying, digging, weeding, planting and the like. Ravished by constant washing and scrubbing of soil and dirt from my skin combined with the drying effects of hand soap left my hands excessively dry with a dull appearance and my current moisturiser, although very good has been unable to provide me with suitable hydration.
Popping into my local Boots I found the 24 Hour Moisture hand cream that Johnson's claim will "rapidly boost hydration using softening oils and conditioners" so after a cheeky sample I decided to buy. Instantly recognisable as a Johnson's product by the soft pink slightly iridescent packaging, clearly marketed towards woman the tube is incredibly easy to use. The flip lid at the base allows the product to stand for easy storage while the click to lock feature means you can not only open with ease but also lock tightly to ensure the contents won't spill out and a small opening allows control whilst dispensing. The only downside being the gunk that collects around the lid opening, although a problem not exclusive to this product. A 50ml tube, a modest size that will fit inconspicuously into any hand bag set me back £2.03, a price I though to be reasonable although if the choice was available I would prefer a larger size.
Due to the poor condition of my hands on my first application I used a fairly generous amount of cream, an almost ten pence sized blob to be precise. White/pink in colouring with a soft, subtle fragrance that's almost perfumey or floral and lasts for a good hour or so. The cream has a reasonably thick consistency that feels silky and soft. I massaged the rich formula into the hands paying close attention to the finger tips where most of the dryness was situated and without having to continually rub, the cream was quickly and easily absorbed with no sticky after effects. For the first couple of days of usa I re-applied every three hours or so and gradually the condition of my dry skin improved.
The hand cream has proven to be effective at reducing my otherwise minor ailments, although any effects that I witnessed were not as instant as I would have liked, it took a good couple of days of regular use before I witnessed a significant changes. After my first application my hands did feel hydrated and there was a noticeable softness, particularly to the backs of my hand and knuckles. My skin did feel well moisturised but the general effects were nothing extraordinary. My fingers were soothed but within fifteen or so minutes they felt dry and rough again. After a couple of days the dryness had all but cleared up and my hands were in a much better condition but I just don't think that this cream is powerful enough to deliver the instant results that Johnson's claim it should.
Personally I really like this hand cream but I would only recommend as an extra precaution to protect from the elements and for general use if your hands are already in a reasonable condition . If like me, your skin is very dry this cream will probably not be intensive enough to deliver the significant results you need. I will however continue to use this product from time to time happy in the knowledge that it will provide me with light and decent enough results but I just can't rely on it to deliver effective relief for my dry chapped hands.
