After admiring a Molton Brown set of hand wash and lotions in my sister-in-law's bathroom, I promptly received a set of my own from her the following Christmas. At the time, I was unfamiliar with the brand and had no idea just how expensive the products are! A 300ml bottle of this hand lotion costs around £16 - far more than I would be willing to pay, although I was obviously incredibly grateful to receive it!
The bottle is like you would expect a bottle of soap to be. It is round and made of clear plastic with a black plastic push pump applicator to extract the lotion from. Through the bottle you can see the lotion which is a very feint blue in colour - it looks practically white compared to the hand wash in the same range which is a very bright blue in colour.
The lotion contains 'a warm mix of corsican fir, rosemary, nutmeg, patchouli and incense oil'. It certainly has a distinctive scent which is strong - I would say that this is predominantly down to the incense oil. It is not a scent that I would describe as particularly masculine or feminine and it is therefore perfect for the bathroom where it can be used by everyone. Both my husband and I happily use this lotion. It is a fresh scent that does stay on your hands for some time after application, so you get a whiff of it every now and again. The lotion is quite thick and rich and a little really does go a long way. It spreads easily and neatly over the hands and absorbs into the skin very quickly so you don't have greasy hands for long afterwards. This is a big plus point for me as I place it in the bathroom and other lotions here have lead to slippery door handles where people have tried to leave the room before the lotion is properly absorbed!
It does leave my hands feeling cared for and moisturised. The skin feels softer and any dry spots are eliminated almost straight after applying. The effects last for quite some time too - it is not a lotion that you need to continually apply. My hands can feel soft and moisture rich for hours after applying (if not washed!). Long term, this has definitely improved the condition of the skin on my hands, especially around the nails.
I am really pleased with how long the bottle has lasted us too. Despite being in our bathroom and available to use by guests as well as us, it lasted us well over a year which is pretty good going for a lotion. This is largely due to the fact that you really only need a very small amount per application.
Although I do think the price of this is excessive for a hand lotion, I can see why it is so pricey. It feels very luxurious and has fantastic (and quick) effects on your hands. It definitely leaves my hands feeling loved and cared for so, as a real treat, I may be persuaded to purchase again in the future!
