Advantages: Good for those on a low budget, last ages.
Disadvantages: For light use as greasy on application.
NIVEA is a good old-fashioned moisturiser that comes in a little, blue, lidded tin. It's been tried and tested by women for decades and continues to sell.
It is a thick, soft, white cream and very greasy. I only rub in a tiny bit on my hands and avoid my face all together unless I'm going to bed alone. Do not let this put you off, the thick cream is a bonus, use little and it will last a long time. The down side is that the cream does not absorb into the skin easily.
NIVEA is a low end price moisturiser that really does soften the skin on immediate application. It's just not practical if you want to spread it on thick in daylight hours. Use it at night and I swear it will rehydrate the dry skin. However, I have, I think, combination to oily skin, and the oil can be too much. I do not use it nightly but just when my face looks weather beaten or dried out, in winter, from central heating. NIVEA market it for all skin types but I'm not convinced that is possible.
The cream doesn't harm my sensitive skin. It has never caused any redness or stinging sensation but when I've used it thickly, I could swear my skin is a bit dry by morning. I can't emphasise enough to use this very sparingly. I put a tiny bit on the tip of my finger, rub it onto the back of a hand, rub my other hand against it and then put my hands to my face. It's so greasy it won't absorb immediately and you'll look shiny and unsightly. It seems odd to encourage you in the purchase of this cream but I see it as a staple to pull out now and again, in tiny amounts, and then it does what I want from it. The cream softens my skin on my hands. I've also tried it on my feet. It temporarily softens the skin but it does not take away the dryness over time. It's cheap and makes a suitable temporary measure.
The German company, has been selling creams since the 1920s so they really have to be getting something right otherwise they would have gone out of business a couple of generations back. Women have used this cream and not turned their back on it. The tin can bring a sense of nostalgia if you saw your mother or grandmother use it. The scent is not floral but a smell that makes me think of cleanliness and good health. I feel the scent of Lidls branded, cheap, alternative mousisturisers perform better.
Tins come in different sizes. I think the smaller the better as it will last ages if applied as sparingly as it ought to be. Mine happens to be 75ml and cost about one pound. The tin is light and fits easily into a handbag if you want to travel with it though taking the lid off and holding the lid and tin in one hand can be awkward when on the move.
Over all, I like to have NIVEA, in the way one might have a spare tin of cheap tinned tomatoes, in the food cupboard. It's useful to have and reliable for once in a while night time applications. There's a comforting nostalgia associated with NIVEA. It's hard to determine the stars three seems cruel and four maybe a bit generous. I'll give it three and a half in this write up but obviously I can't represent that on the star chart provided.
Summary: Good to have in the drawer for light usage.
