***HAND S/HAND PRODUCTS IN GENERAL***
Hands are used for a wide range of different things and need to be looked after just like feet and other parts of your body. Every day our hands take a lot of abuse and to avoid them becoming dry sore and looking old it's best to give them a little care and attention every now and again. My hands often become very dry in the winter how-ever I tend to use a hand cream all year round to keep my hands moisturised, soft and looking young. There are a wide range of hand products available to buy from local pharmacies and high street store such as Boots, Superdrug or more expensive brands such as House of Fraser, Molton Brown or Debenhams. Most good hand cream should contain Glycerin at the start of the list of ingredients as this is the main ingredient used in most hand creams and is best for keeping hands moisturised and soft. I was in my local Lush store and the advisor in the shop told me that all good hand creams should contain Glycerin as this attracts moisture to the hands and keep it locked in.
***NIVEA SOS HAND BALM***
This Hand Balm provides instant relief and moisturisation for chapped and extremely dry hands. The formula made with Dexpanthenol and Calendula Oil helps to restore dry chapped hands. Just a small amount of the balm will bring instant relief to chapped hands and will provide a long lasting, smoothing effect which will help protect against further moisture loss. The Hand Balm contains the some of the following ingredients:
* Glycerin which is a humectant, meaning it attracts moisture to your skin which is why it's used in a wide range of hand creams.
* Calendula Oil is gentle and soothing for the skin so is used in a wide range of products such as moisturisers, Oil's and some shaving treatments as well. Because Calendula oil is so soothing it's also perfect for use on eczema, scars, insect bites, minor cuts, stretch marks and more. The oil nourishes skin to promote skin cell renewal and brings it back to bliss.
* Dexpanthenol is a vitamin that penetrates the skin to help bind in water in the outer skin layers. This vitamin is also used in hair products as it makes hair soft and easy to handle.
I purchased this from boots which cost me £3.98 for a 50ml tube which is the only size the product is available to buy in. This is also available to buy in Superdrug for around the same price. (I can't actually find the product listed on their website, how-ever I did see this in store!).
***WHAT PROMPTED ME TO BUY THIS?***
The last hand cream I bought was from Lush and was very good, how-ever the product was quite expensive and I found that the product didn't last long but also there would be quite a lot of product left in the bottle which was hard to get out so I went in search of a new hand cream. I specifically remember the advisor telling me that all good hand creams should contain Glycerin so when I was in boots I took a look at their range of hand creams. Nivea SOS hand Balm was the first product I picked up probably because I had never seen this before. I read the information on the back of the tube and also saw that it contained Glycerin so I thought I would buy it and give it a go to see how I got on. I was hoping that this product would do as good as job as the Lush product did to my hands which were to make them smooth, soft and moisturised all day long. The Nivea was also cheaper choice than going back to Lush again & I was willing to try this product if it meant it saved me money.
The Hand Balm comes in the typical Nivea white tube which stands upright on the dark blue lid. The front of the packaging has been kept very simple with some colour so this can be recognised from the other hand creams. The front of the tube has got a hint of red on it and is states that the cream provides instant relief from dry and chapped hands. On the back of the tube it gives you more information about the product and how it works to lock in moisture and keep hands feeling moisturised throughout the day. The packaging has been kept fairly simple and may not stand out as much as other products as the colours aren't bright or very eye grabbing. How-ever because this is a Nivea product and their past products have been good this is what prompted me into buying the product.
***USING THE HAND BALM***
I flipped the lid open and squeezed the tube so a small amount dispensed onto my hand. The first thing I noticed straight away was that the amount which comes out the tube when you squeeze is quite small, but I presume this is because you don't need to use a lot of the product. The Hand Balm was just white in colour and had a slight smell to it which was quite pleasant. When you start to rub the balm in you can feel that it's a lot thicker than normal hand cream. I used a small amount and rubbed this into my hands and in between my fingers. The balm doesn't leave your hands feeling greasy and they instantly feel soft and moisturised. This cream left my hands feeling soft and nourished for the majority of the day and I only had to apply it once or twice throughout the whole day. The scent of the balm stays on your hands throughout the day but this isn't an unpleasant smell. I think the balm smells nice & I quite like the smell. Even after washing & drying my hands they still felt soft and moisturised.
Apart from the hand cream I purchased from Lush this is the only other hand cream/balm I am very pleased with. The Nivea balm is a lot cheaper than the cream I used to buy from Lush and I think the Nivea balm smells nicer, and will last a lot longer. I was impressed how little you have to re-apply the cream and I was very impressed at how soft and nourished it kept my hands throughout my working day. This product will be staying in my hand bag and will be the perfect product to use as the weather starts to get cold and my hands become dry from the harsh cold weather. If you suffer from dry or chapped hands I would highly recommend this product. How-ever even if you don't suffer from dry, chapped hands this is a fantastic product just to keep your hands soft and moisturised to keep your hands in good condition and looking healthy.
