“ Brand: Patently Obvious / Type: Hand Foam / Suitable for: Hand „
Whilst my green credentials are not that good I'm always willing to give eco-products a try, particularly when I perceive that they offer good value compared to standard products. I came across the Patently Obvious Mint and Lime hand foamer on a reduced shelf in Boots for the princely sum of £0.37... for that price I'll try anything!
The first thing you'll notice about Patently Obvious products is the modern and distinct packaging that they use and the hand foamer is no exception. The bottle looks as at home in the kitchen as in a stylish bathroom and encourages those not in the know to look a little closer. Clearly a good way to get the eco message home!
Being a hand foamer the pump action dispenser delivers foam, rather than liquid soap to the hands and, as a result the contents of the bottle look rather more liquid than one would expect from a hand wash. The colour of the liquid is quite a lurid, almost fluorescent yellowish green, in part due to the tinted plastic of the bottle.
Scent, for me, is a major draw to hand washes and the combination of mint and lime had me intrigued. Had I not known what the smell was I think I'd have had difficulty identifying it. My son describes this as the "funny smelling soap". I could be a little more accurate and suggest that the scent is clearly natural and citrusy but I'd be tempted to say that it was more herbal than minty in particular. The citrus dominates but is not quite identifiable as lime (and certainly not as obvious as the Original Source lime products).
The product claims to be non-drying, mild and kind to skin and I think I'd go along with this. My hands feel clean after use but not overly dry. Having said that, it's not a moisturising hand wash either and so, if you suffer from particularly dry hands you'll need a cream alongside. Being a foam the wash is easy to distribute over the hands and rinses easily. This means that I'm happy for my toddler to use it as often, with a liquid soap, he'll still have soap on his hands when he dries them. The fact that it is a foam also means that a little goes a long way and the bottle I have in my kitchen has lasted a good 6 weeks.
The soap claims to be packaged in recycled plastic and to be bio-degradable. It claims a natural anti-bacterial action. I can't certify any of these claims but, added to an already good hand wash I think that these help! Were the wash no good these claims alone would not convince me to buy!
The only real issue that I have with this foamer is that, after a while, the liquid separates and gives a clear and a cloudy layer making the product less attractive on the shelf. It's a shame as the initial product looked great! In use it still seems to perform though (and without the need to shake!).
For those that care there is no animal testing and no animal ingredients are used (making this a vegan product). The product is paraben-free and made in the UK to cut down on the carbon footprint.
Available from Boots or online for around £3.50 for 300ml I would recommend this rather green product!
