A great hand foam, ideal around the house!

My first exposure to the Patently Obvious range was as a result of an impulse buy from the reduced shelf in Boots. Having been impressed by this eco-friendly brand (and that's no mean feat) I decided to try another one of their products.

The packaging of this Patently Obvious product had changed slightly but still retained a modern and distinct edge. The bottle looks as at home in the kitchen as in a stylish bathroom and encourages those not in the know to look a little closer. Clearly a good way to get the eco message home!

Being a hand foamer the pump action dispenser delivers foam, rather than liquid soap to the hands and, as a result the contents of the bottle look rather more liquid than one would expect from a hand wash. The colour of the liquid is quite a dull purple which isn't quite as inspiring as some hand washes but should fit in with most understated decors.

Scent, for me, is a major draw to hand washes and (along with the effectiveness of the product) is what caused me to try another in the range. I've long associated lavender with little old ladies but this combination of rosemary and lavender is simply perfect and there's not a hint of "old" about it. The rosemary seems to take that sweet, sickly edge off the lavender scent yet lets it retain its relaxing qualities. This is quite a herbal scented product but I think it sits equally well in the kitchen as the bathroom.

The product claims to be non-drying, mild and kind to skin and I think I'd go along with this. My hands feel clean after use but not overly dry. Having said that, it's not a moisturising hand wash either and so, if you suffer from particularly dry hands you'll need a cream alongside. Being a foam the wash is easy to distribute over the hands and rinses easily. This means that I'm happy for my toddler to use it as often, with a liquid soap, he'll still have soap on his hands when he dries them. The fact that it is a foam also means that a little goes a long way and the bottle I have in my kitchen has lasted a good 6 weeks.

The soap claims to be packaged in recycled plastic and to be bio-degradable. It claims a natural anti-bacterial action. I can't certify any of these claims but, added to an already good hand wash I think that these help! Were the wash no good these claims alone would not convince me to buy!

For those that care there is no animal testing and no animal ingredients are used (making this a vegan product). The product is paraben-free and made in the UK to cut down on the carbon footprint.

Available from Boots or online for around £3.50 for 300ml I would recommend this rather green product!
