I tried to use false nails as my own nails are rather short and scraggy. It was husband’s 40th birthday and we were going out for a meal and I wanted my hands to look a bit more pretty and add a touch of glamour. I bought these false nails from Tesco on the beauty aisle and they were £4.50 for a pack of ten. They are made by a company called Perfcet 10 and I had never heard of them before but as they were cheaper than the Sally Hansen ones, I decided to go with these.
I’d read the instructions a few days before trying to apply them but decided to actually do the sticking bit the day of the meal – about three hours before, to be exact. These are plain nails in that they have no actuall colour to them but are designed to look like a French manicure, with white tips and natural looking nail beds. The shape is square, rather than oval but very gently rounded on the corners so that they don’t look too severe.
The nails appeared to be well made when I opened the box and they are a ‘medium’ size and comes with their own little pot of adhesive. They were advertised as coming with thermo-forming PET, which apparently is a new form of technology which stops the nails from actually chipping or splitting. Nail varnish can be applied over the top but I didn’t do this as it was the French manicure look I was aiming for anyway.
I followed the directions very carefully and applied the glue to my natural clean nails. I applied the nail, gently pressed and waited about thirty seconds to let the nail bond with my own natural nail. The glue was very strong and I suggest that if you are applying these nails to make sure you use them in a well ventilated area.
The nails were simple to apply and it was easy to see which nail was intended for which finger. They looked really great when I’d put them all on – very professional and very glamorous. My husband said he loved them. I wore them to dinner and all was well until I had to pop to the ladies. Unfortunately, pulling my knickers up after using the loo resulted in the thumb nails falling off and it landed in the toilet. It was surprising how easily the nail actually came off and I was hoping they’d at least last the duration of the meal.
The remaining nine nails lasted until I got home and went to bed. When I woke the following morning another two had come off in the night and I found them under the duvet when I went to make the bed. At that point I decided to pull off the remaining seven nails and put it down to experience.
I don’t recommend these nails at all. I think they looked great when first applied but they are no good at all unless you just stand around doing nothing with your hands and not touching anything, so in that respect they are just not practical at all. They look great though, I have to admit, but unfortunately for me they just didn’t last.
