QMS Medicosmetics Hand Care
Advantages: repairs and protects, quickly absorbed, excellent care for weather damaged hands
Disadvantages: strange waterproof effect feels weird, expensive
Being a bit of a beauty product addict, I always like to try out new things and vary the brands that I use. One of my most exciting discoveries has been finding online companies that provide beauty boxes. These usually contain various make-up, skin care, fragrance products etc, and I have been trying a few from different suppliers. I received a sample size bottle of this QMS Medicosmetics Hand Care lotion in a previous delivery from "Latest in Beauty". You can find further information at www.latestinbeauty.com, and www.qmsmedicosmetics.com.
QMS Medicosmetics was a completely new brand to me, and judging the item purely on presentation I found it to look a bit plain and unappealing. I wanted to know some more information about the brand and was able to find this easily on their website: "QMS Medicosmetics is formulated by Dr. med. Erich Schulte, an aesthetic surgeon, lecturer and international authority on skin aging and skin regeneration, based on research led, collagen enhancing technology to create a bespoke regenerative system of skincare." This all sounds like pretty serious stuff and I was impressed by the brand's approach to their products. I received a 40ml sample sized tube which appears to be a smaller version of the full size product which contains 75mls and has an RRP of £20.00.
Product description: "Anti-aging, intensely moisturising and uniquely protective; QMS Medicosmetics Hand Care is the perfect treatment for hands. Devised to be instantly absorbed with no greasy residue, this highly effective formulation uses a special combination of lipids to nurture the skin's natural moisture and nutrients storage against the early signs of aging."
This Hand Care lotion comes in a plastic tube with a screw-top lid. It's designed so that the lid is actually positioned at the bottom of the tube, allowing the product to gather and be dispensed more easily. This hand lotion is designed to give effective results rather than being a beauty treat, and it lacks any pleasant fragrance that I would usually look for in a skincare product. It does have a light soapy scent but this is not noticeable unless you literally hold your hand up to your face and sniff it.
The lotion has a plain white colour and appears more like an ointment than a regular hand lotion. It has a waxy consistency but is still quite thin and spreads very easily over the skin so only a small amount is required. When I first started using this Hand Care lotion I was overloading my skin by applying way more than was needed. It is very rich and a little does go a long way. The tip of the tube has a very small hole that allows you to squeeze the lotion out, and to get the perfect amount for a single application on my hands I simple "draw" a thin line across the back of my knuckles, and this is perfect for covering one hand. It only takes a few seconds for the lotion to be fully absorbed into my skin and it rubs in quickly. The lotion also works quickly to improve moisture levels and leaves my hands feeling rehydrated. This is particularly useful for dry sensitive skin and I find that as soon as the weather turns cooler (yes, already!) my hands are the first to suffer and they get incredibly dry especially around the knuckles, from any bad weather effects like wind and rain as well as the cold temperatures. I keep my tube of this on my desk at work and apply it between once and twice a day, when I first arrive in the morning, and then shortly before I leave in the evening, to ensure my hands are given the treatment they need to help soothe and care for my skin.
The Hand Care lotion does not leave any noticeable residue behind, but it does have a unique selling feature in that it provides a protective barrier against damaging external influences. I did question how true this would prove to be, but even from the first few uses I was able to really notice a difference. I found it mainly noticeable after I had applied the lotion and then later on during the day, ended up with my hands submerged in water. The lotion forms a waterproof sort of effect, and seems to stop water from penetrating and soaking into the skin, which is a very odd feeling indeed! I think this would be useful for anyone that spends a lot of time washing dishes or clothes by hand, as it stops the prune effect and my hands are still soft afterwards. I think the effect is a good thing for practical reasons, but personally I really don't like how it actually feels, as it is quite strange and my hands feel a bit slimy afterwards when I'm drying them off. If it weren't for the fact that my bicycle is in need of repair, then I would be enjoying my usual early morning or late evening bike rides along the seafront. I always end up with red sore skin on my hands from gripping onto the handlebars and the effects of a cold sea wind, and I would definitely want to use this Hand Care lotion before and after going cycling as I think it would be a lifesaver and help to keep my hands protected.
The QMS Medicosmetics Hand Care lotion is a pricey purchase, but one that I can recommend if you do suffer with dry, damaged skin on your hands. It can be a very uncomfortable problem and this lotion not only restores moisture levels, but also provides a barrier against external conditions. I think this would be particularly well suited to anyone who spends time outdoors and ends up with weather damaged skin.
Summary: An effective hand lotion that repairs and protects weather beaten skin
