Regenerating & Indulgent Hand Wash
Advantages: It thoroughly cleansed my hands
Disadvantages: Smells awful and far too runny
I rarely shop at Asda, particularly as my nearest supermarket is Tesco, so I always quite look forward to visiting their store so I can spend ages drooling over the array of items contained within the beauty aisle. My attention was captured by a couple of eye-catching bottles from the Regenerating and Indulgent range, which on closer examination I discovered were hand washes and hand lotions containing extracts of shea butter and cocoa butter. Consequently, a purchase was made of both products with this review discussing the hand wash.
Both the hand wash and hand lotion are almost identical in appearance and on the reverse of the bottle we learn that the hand wash contains natural ingredients and has been inspired by the natural beauty traditions of the women of Kenya. The transparent plastic bottle perfectly reflects the Kenyan style with its appealing design of brown and cream colours. The hand wash itself is of a golden brown and my initial thoughts when arriving home with my purchase were that it was too runny.
The bottle I own hasn't been particularly well made as it leans slightly due to a bumpy underside, but I suppose that's me being over critical. Unlike the body lotion where the pump section of the dispensing unit continually detached itself, I am easily able to dispense the hand wash with a couple of presses of the pump. Unfortunately and exactly as I suspected, the wash is of a fairly runny consistency and reminds me of jelly that has just started to set.
Whilst I had witnessed the aroma of the hand lotion prior to purchase and found it favourable, when I used it at home I found it revolting and unfortunately, this also applies to the hand wash. Although the shea butter and cocoa are natural ingredients, Asda has gone overboard on something, as it is sickly sweet and offers an overbearing alcoholic aroma identical to that of Advocaat. I asked my husband for his opinion and his response was similar to mine where he stated "Urgh, disgusting!"
As the fragrance contained within products often fades when used I decided to try out the hand wash and due to its runny consistency I found some of it escaping between my fingers. Once I had retained enough to add water I found it lathered fairly quickly, but the ghastly fragrance intensified and caused me to feel extremely nauseous. On a positive note, it effectively cleansed my hands and was easily rinsed away without leaving any sticky residue and did not cause me to suffer from any adverse affects. Whilst my hands felt soft and smooth I cannot admit to them feeling particularly moisturised, so it was necessary to apply a hand lotion, which incidentally, was not the matching one from this range!
I do not intending listing the ingredients within the hand wash, but would state that I believe they should read 100% alcohol as I reckon if I sniffed this for long enough I would end up extremely drunk! The hand wash should be used within 24 months of opening and the bottle can be recycled once empty. This has to be one of the worst hand washes I have ever used due to the poor consistency and the awful strong alcoholic aroma and for that reason it gets only one star and absolutely no recommendation. If you are remotely interested in purchasing this hand wash it retails at £1 a bottle although my advice would be to leave it on the shelf in Asda!
I hope you found my review useful and thanks for reading.
Summary: An awful hand wash from Asda
