Using a base coat for nail varnish, I learnt very quickly was a must – as I had a few mishaps with some bright nail varnishes as a teenager and left myself with some dodgy coloured nails after I’d taken it off.
Revlon are quite a good brand in my opinion, but not one that I use very often – or didn’t before but now this base coat and top coat is a regular feature in my Boots shopping basket.
This base coat is brilliant all things considered, although it only goes on underneath the nail polish – I will often wear it over my natural nails when I can’t wear normal nail polish because it’s got a good boost to not allow splitting and peeling of nails. Now my nails don’t peel, but the edges often split so it’s nice that something can protect them when I’m washing my hands a lot of times a day.
Apply it with the brush provided and it doesn’t take very long to dry at all, I tend to do two coats of this and leave it around ten minutes before putting my actual nail polish on. Just in case I managed to smudge it, even though I know within a minute it’s dry – I just cannot abide having to redo my nails if I don’t have to.
This nail polish top coat effectively prevents yellowing of the nail due to nail polish, it’s great to know I can stick on a pretty colour and it won’t make my nails look a strange colour when I take it off!
This base coat is £6.49 in Boots, and worth getting the top coat in the three for two when the offer goes on – which it is at the time of writing this review.
This Revlon base coat is £6.49 in Boots, but regularly in a 3 for 2 offer on Revlon products. I bought this a while ago as I have a nail polish that is my favourite colour, a bright pink colour, but it really does stain my nails. When I try and rub it off my nails are really stained pink. I decided to see if a base coat would make any difference in reducing the staining of my nails, as it really does take a good few days to completely wear off and my nails just look horrible.
This bottle is a really glossy and sleek bottle. It looks really pretty and stylish. The lid is white, and the bottle is clear but looks white as the actual product inside is a cloudy white colour. Even though the liquid is white, it does not dry on your nails white. It dries clear and actually looks like you have got a shiny nail polish on. It is not too runny this base coat, it is thick enough to apply to your nails easily.
The base coat glides on easily and goes on really thinly, when you apply your nail polish over this base coat, you wouldn't even know you have got it on. The brush is quite thin and makes it easy to apply this to your nails with just a few strokes. It dries really well too this base coat, one minute is all you need for it to be dry enough to apply your nail polish over the top.
After you apply your nail polish, that's it, you don't notice it again! Until after removing you nail polish, it really does its job at protecting your nails from staining. My nails no longer get stained at all by dark nail polishes. My nails go a bit yellow sometimes too as I always paint them, and I have had no yellowing to my nails whatsoever since using this base coat, it really does do the job it says.
I can't recommend this base coat highly enough, it glides on well, the bottle is gorgeous, you can use it as a shiny nail polish if you want, if protects your nails form yellowing and staining, and it doesn't cost a fortune! I will definitely stick with this base coat, I have no need to try others, this one is perfect and does the job it should do perfectly!
