Rio Nail Art Kit
Advantages: Easy to use, Nice colours, you get everything you need in the kit,
Disadvantages: needle bit can easily bend
For those of you who don't know what nail art is, it's basically where you paint your fingernails or toe nails with decorative patterns. It could be something simple such as having spotty nails, or if you're really experienced you can even try painting complex patterns onto your nails. It's up to you!
As I've said, I'm interested in nail art, as I think it just makes your nails look really cool, and it's a lot more interesting than just painting your nails with one colour. So anyway, this nail kit is aimed to help you create nail art patterns on your nails. This is what it says on the back of the box this kit came in: 'personalise your nails with Rio Professional Nail Art. Double ended applicators feature detailing pen and fine line brush. Chose from 8 stunning colours, including 3 primary colours and metallic silver.'
So what's in the kit? Well you have 8 'pens', these are used for drawing out patterns onto your nails. Every pen is a different colour, there is: blue, red, white, green, silver, yellow, pinky/purple and black.
When you pull up the lid on one of the pens, you see a small thin stick, which looks like a needle. You squeeze the pen and a small blob of colour will come out the end. I find that the needle is good for creating things like small spots. However if you like you can also use it for creating things like thin lines and waves. Once you have popped the lid of the needle back on, you can now twist the top of the pen, then pull it up, you will then see a fine line brush, I feel the brush is best to use for drawing things like lines.
The pens are designed in an excellent way, if you want to use the needle part of the pen, you just pull off the lid, and if you want to use the fine line brush, you just twist the lid, it's really easy.
I find the pens very easy to use. The easiest design I think you can do, is to first paint your nails a colour, say for example pink. Then once it is dry, grab a nail art pen, and just paint small spots all over your nails, it's an easy but effective look.
After a while of using these pens, I have become a little better and less shaky, and so now I can do more complex designs such as drawing little hearts onto my nails, and I have even tried out a domino design where I have painted my nails black, then using the brush do a thin line across my nail, then either side draw on some spots so that my nails look like dominos. You really can create any look you like!
A downside to the pens is that when I was painting some dots onto my nails, then needle bent slightly, and came out of place. After pushing it back into place I thought it would work fine again, until I realised that the needle was blocked up. I was very annoyed and left it for like a month until I realised that stuck to the bottom of each pen is a small pin, and you just push it through the needle, and it becomes unblocked, wonderful!
Another problem is that if you're right handed like me, then it's a lot harder to paint your right hand. (This is obviously the problem with any kind of product like this, and it can't be helped!) However you might have a friend with a steady hand that can do your other hand for you. Or after a while of practising, it gets easier to paint both hands!
In this kit not only do you get the 8 pens, but you also get a few other bits and bobs. You get a paintbrush, some gems, some glitter, a DVD, a leaflet with different nail designs on, and an instruction booklet with shows you basic techniques and designs to try.
Honestly I think that glitter and gems look a little tacky on nails, and so I haven't actually used them. However I have read the instruction booklet and it gives very clear instructions on how to apply them, and it does sound very easy. To apply the glitter you just apply some of the nail polish from the pens to the area you want to cover, and then sprinkle the glitter over the top. And then the same technique for the gems, just paint a small dot of polish where you want the gem to go, then hold the gem firmly down until it dries.
As I've mentioned, this kit also comes with a DVD, I have watched it once, and found it useful at showing you basic techniques and a few ideas to try. It shows you how to do dots, strokes, swirls, different designs, and also how to apply the glitter and gems.
Overall I find this a fantastic little kit to make your nails look pretty and artistic. After a while you can create lots of different colourful patterns and make your nails look really cool. I love this kit and wont stop using it! (Well until the pens run out and I have to buy some more).
You can buy this kit from Argos for £25.49.
Summary: I love them!
