Rio Nail Art Kit
Advantages: Great colours, dotting tool and thin brush for fine details
Disadvantages: Dotting tool gets clogged and the pin they provide doesnt clear it
This was the first set of these pens that I bought. I have been doing nail art for a little while, I used to use a paintbrush or a pin pushed into a pencil to do dots etc. I saw these in Argos for £25 and although they were a little expensive, they come with a thin brush when you unscrew them, if you just pull the end cap off you get the dotting tool.
Although I love these, the different colours are great, each set are different, they do have a few bad points. The Rio set are quite bold, the silver doesn't really fit with the other colours but they are all still good. The varnish is on the thinner side due it having to come out of thin tube. The dotting tool works really well to begin with. You do get with each bottle a very thin metal pin (it is taped to the bottom of each bottle) so if/when the tip gets blocked you insert the pin and it unblocks it. Unfortunately this doesn't happen, the pin is too thin and just doesn't clear any blockages, and so once the tube is blocked I go back to the faithful pin in a pencil. (Should I buy anymore I will try to keep them standing up as this should stop them from blocking, it's a theory, and I haven't tested this yet!)
The thin brush is fine, although the bottle is made of plastic that you can squeeze, (to get the varnish out of the dotting tool) if the screw top gets stuck on, trying to twist it off is made more difficult due to the plastic bottle squeezing. The bottles do need shaking before use as they can be watery when you first use them. The pack comes with an instruction manual, which also shows some designs you can recreate.
Overall if the varnish doesn't dry out in the dotting tool (which it is partial to) this is a very good set. £25 is expensive but worth it if they last, the list of patterns you can achieve in endless only capped by your imagination.
Summary: If they dont dry out, well worth it
