      Nail polish remover

Wearing nail polish frequently means that I always need to have some nail polish remover at hand. Having recently run out of nail polish remover I decided to pop to my local Superdrug store to buy a new bottle. After browsing the range I decided to opt for the Superdrug own brand Acetone nail polish remover which was on a 3 for 2 special offer.

I paid £1.09 for a 250ml bottle of the acetone nail polish remover but purchased 3 bottles to take advantage of the 3 for 2 offer. I thought this was great value and much cheaper than branded nail polish remover.

The acetone nail polish remover comes packaged in a plastic bottle with a screw on lid. It states that it removes all types of nail varnish but that it should not be used on false nails. I opted for the acetone based nail polish remover as although it offers less protection to your nails it is stronger than non-acetone remover so removes the modern glitter based nail polishes which I occasionally use.

To use the nail polish remover you simply need to place a little onto a cotton wool pad and wipe it over your nail. It does have a very strong smell so it is wise to make sure you are in a ventilated room when using it as it can be quite overpowering. I have used this nail varnish remover on a few different types of nail varnish and have found it to be fairly good. I have had to use more than the recommended amount especially for brighter/darker coloured polish and with glitter based polish being particularly difficult to remove with me having to wrap cotton wool pad saturated with the remover around each nail for a few seconds to fully remove the polish.

Overall I think for the price it is hard to complain too much about this nail polish remover as it does eventually remove all types of nail polish with a little more used and a little more effort. My nails do not seem to have suffered any negative effects from using this acetone based product and remain quite strong with fairly white tips. I would purchase this polish remover again in the future if it was on special offer but at full price I would steer towards trying another brand. 3 stars from me.

removing the colour from my nails quickly!

      ~Nail Polish Remover~

Superdrug offer a good range of own branded nail care products including this 'Acetone Nail Polish Remover'. This nail polish remover is designed to remove all types of nail polish but cannot be used on artificial nails. It is presented in a small, travel sized bottle containing 50ml of liquid. There is a number of safety warnings on the bottle and these should be read before using this product. The nail polish remover is BUAV approved. It has a 36month shelf life from first opening.

      ~Price and Availability~

This 50ml bottle can be purchased from www.superdrug.com (currently out of stock) or instore priced at 79p. The current offer is buy one, get one half price. A bigger, 250ml size is priced at £1.09.

      ~My Thoughts~

I first bought this nail polish remover when we were going away to Thomas Land for the weekend and I didn't want to carry a big bottle of it with me. The 50ml size was perfect for travelling and I have since repurchased this as I find it the right size of bottle to use at home too. I alternate between this liquid remover and also soaked remover pads. I would have like to see an acetone free nail polish remover in this smaller size for travelling.

I haven't had any issues with the bottle leaking during travelling as the lid does screw on tight. The liquid itself is watery and tinted lilac. The small opening at the top of bottle allows a reasonable but not excessive amount of liquid to be poured out on to a cotton pad. I use this method for when I am taking off old nail polish. I also use cotton buds and find this bottle to be the right size for me to dip a cotton bud in to without dropping it right in to the bottle.

As you would expect from this type of product, there is a very strong smell of acetone. I am used to using this type of product but still can't stick the smell for long periods of time and always use this in a well ventilated area and never around my son as the smell can be overpowering. You don't need to completely soak the cotton pad/bud in liquid as a little of this nail polish remover goes a long way. I lightly moisten whichever cotton product I am using and either sweep it across my entire nail or dab around the sides of my nails to remove any 'overspill'.

I find this nail polish remover to be very effective and speedy to use. I mainly wear quite intense or dark colours on my nails and with two sweeps, the colour is normally fully removed from my nails. Whilst I don't consider this nail polish remover to be hydrating for my nails, I don't find that it dries them out at all. My nails look clean and healthy after removing the nail polish. I haven't experienced any irritation from using this product and overall, I have been impressed by how well it performs at removing nail polish from my finger and toe nails.

      ~Final Thoughts~

The 250ml bottle of nail polish remover works out best value for money but the 50ml is so convenient for going on overnights or weekends away. I often do my nails on the night that I am going out to prevent extra chipping so having a small bottle of nail polish remover with me is essential as I can be very messy when it comes to painting my nails. Whilst I do prefer acetone free nail polish removers, this one is good and I would recommend it. I would happily buy it again in the future as it is cheap and effective.

      Thanks for reading :)
