Advantages: Softening, smells lovely.
Disadvantages: The tube tends to spurt out cream.
I recently got a voucher which allowed me to try this product, The Bodyshop's Almond Hand and Nail Cream, for free. I am a regular customer of The Bodyshop and even have a store loyalty card but I had never bought their hand creams before (received the hemp hand protector one as a Christmas gift before though). I have often tried to scrimp on my hand creams as I don't like the idea of paying a lot of money for a small part of the body and I also often kid myself that using any old moisturiser will do. However, I'm outdoors quite often and when the winter sets in I normally have to cave in and buy myself an intensive hand cream to deal with my chapped knuckles. I was therefore very pleased to be able to try this Bodyshop hand cream as I really love this brand and I am usually impressed by their product quality.
This product comes in a 30ml (or 1.0 US FL OZ.) sized tube. The tube is made of a soft malleable metallic material and is printed with product information. There is a plastic screw off lid which is marked with grooves for an easy grip. I find the top easy to remove although replacing it onto the small dispensing nozzle can be a bit more fiddly. The tube is also a little bit troublesome. The metal material dents easily and therefore pushes the cream towards the end of the tube. When I open the tube the cream often just bursts out because the tube has been accidentally squashed down and can not be re-inflated like a plastic tube can.
The cream is marked as being for "all skin types" and on the front of the tube the brand state that this cream both moisturises and conditions hands and nails. The most important ingredients in the cream are sweet almond oil and Community Fair Trade Brazil Nut Oil which help soften and enrich skin. The cream also contains shea butter and soybean oil which are also included to smooth and hydrate the skin.
The cream is white in colour and glistens with an oily sheen. When I rub the cream into my hands it feels watery and quite thin but it is absorbed into the skin surprisingly quickly. It also begins to feel like it has a greasier base as you rub it into the skin. Once it has all been absorbed I can feel an immediate difference in how my skin feels. I am able to use this cream on both the backside and palms of my hands as it dries rapidly and allows me to use my hands to do anything within seconds of applying. My hands aren't left sticky or wet after use. I am happy with the transformation of my hands immediately after using the cream. It gives me instant relief from dryness and cracked or chapped skin. When I rub my hands together after using the cream it feels like I'm holding a silk scarf between my fingers! It also makes my skin look brighter and healthier. My nails look cleaner and conditioned - as though I've had them polished and buffed!
I haven't been using this for long but I'm pleased with how my hands and nails are looking and feeling so far. I do feel that using the cream is helping to protect my skin from drying out completely and therefore it should have long term transformative effects.
The cream has a beautiful smell. It's more like an almond based pudding, almond milk or perhaps brioche or an iced pastry as the aroma is very sweet and delicious. It's a mild, comforting scent that would be suitable for both men and women.
A tube of this hand cream costs £5 and I would find that quite expensive if I'm honest. However, when thinking of whether the cream is worth paying this price I do weigh in factors such as The Bodyshop don't test on animals and also use fair trade ingredients. You can also cut the cost by getting a Love Your Body loyalty card in store. I think this cream would make a great gift for someone as it is very high quality and I think anyone would be impressed by it.

Summary: A high quality hand cream that impresses me.
