I've recently started buying from the Body Shop after obtaining one of their 'Love Your Body' cards, and spotting a great sale on their website. I'm always in need of hand lotion as I like to keep my hands and nails looking well groomed, my nails in particular I am very obsessive about! I bought this hand lotion online at www.thebodyshop.co.uk during their clearance sale and it cost me just £2.00. I believe it is part of their Winter / Christmas range and is not currently available to buy in the shops.
The Body Shop say: "Sweet, fruity and festive lightweight softening with moisturising Community Trade shea butter. Use after Cranberry Hand Wash for seasonally scented, soft hands."
This Cranberry Hand Lotion comes in a large plastic bottle with a pump dispenser. It has a festive design, with the packaging being a deep, rich red and gold combination. The bottle is opaque so it is very difficult to know how much you have left, and I have a pet hate for this type of thing! The bottle weighs in at a massive 250mls which is a large amount for a hand lotion.
The pump dispenser is actually surprisingly accurate and easy to use. I normally dislike them as I find it is often hard to control how much liquid is dispensed, but with this one you can press down lightly and get exactly the right amount of product that you require.
I love the tangy fruity smell of cranberries, and this Cranberry Hand Lotion is extremely rich in fragrance. It is heavily scented and the cranberry smell seems highly concentrated. Even with the small amount that I need to use to moisturise my hands I get an overwhelming fragrance that stays on the skin for a long time and smells very noticeable. The smell is too sharp and overpowering for my liking, and seems a bit sickly.
The lotion is quite thin and is lightly moisturising. It spreads easily and soaks in quickly which is a must for hand lotion. I hate that feeling of having sticky greasy hands after putting on a lotion but this seems to absorb straight into my hands and leaves them feeling softer afterwards. I keep the bottle on my desk at work, as the air-conditioned environment tends to zap my skin and the nasty soap they have in the ladies' really dries my hands out terribly. I apply it maybe a couple of times a day, as required, usually after each time I've washed my hands. It is gently moisturising and manages to quickly bring the level of hydration back into balance again.
There are a lot of natural ingredients that make up this lovely lotion, including shea butter, sweet almond oil, sesame seed oil, and cranberry seed oil. The Body Shop are against animal testing and all products are vegetarian - keep your beauty cruelty free!
I don't think this is rich enough for anyone who suffers with really dry hands or cracked skin, but for general use it is an excellent hand lotion. The bottle is lasting me ages as there is so much in there, and it was definitely a good bargain buy. The only problem I have with it is the awfully strong smell which is very off-putting. I'd probably buy a Body Shop hand lotion again but look for a different scent instead.
