Advantages: Leaves skin soft, great value for money, smell

Disadvantages: Some people may not like the unique smell

I recieved this hand cream last Christmas as part of a gift set from The Body Shop. I am a huge fan of The Body Shop's hemp range as it smells gorgeous in my opinion, however I had never really seen the point in buying the hand cream as I don't suffer with dry skin on my hands. I am really glad that I recieved this as a gift else I'd have probably never tried it otherwise and I really like it! The hand cream is quite pricey at £10 per 100ml tube, however it is often on offer. I admit that the price would have put me off had I bought it myself, however now after using it for a seven months I can definitely say that it's worth the money and I will be re-purchasing it once my current tube has ran out.

This hand cream is part of the hemp range, which also includes body butters and lip balms. It is one of The Body Shop's best selling products and I can see why. It is aimed at people who have very dry skin on their hands, however it works just as well on my normal skin and makes it even softer! The Body Shop state on their website that the hand cream relieves very dry skin and restores moisture and suppleness. The hand cream comes in a decent sized tube which contains 100ml of product. There is a smaller version as well - 30ml which would be handy for keeping in my handbag, however I don't take this out with me anyway as like I said before I don't suffer with particullary dry hands. The tube stands on its lid and has quite a strange texture, almost like thin allumenium, however despite this it is still easy to squeeze. The colour scheme is silver, brown and green, with the green obviously reflecting the hemp.

The tube has all of the information that anyone needs on it including the product name and body shop logo on the front and the ingredients etc on the back. It is made clear on the front of the tube that the hand cream is best suited to very dry skin and it is also stated that the cream is dermatologically tested. The tube is pretty easy to open and close and the cream is dispensed through a little hole, which prevents too much of the product from coming out at once, resulting in none going to waste. The cream itself is much thicker than I was expecting; I had expected a lightweight lotion, whereas it is more like a body butter, although not as thick. The texture although thick and rich sinks in to the skin quickly and doesn't just sit on the skin like a layer.

The cream has a pale green tinge to it which reminds me a bit of toothpaste, but I like it. The smell is really nice in my opinion, however my friend hates it and says it smells like rotten grass. It's a herbal, quite earthy scent which is unisex. The smell isn't too overpowering and although it does linger after applying the cream, it fades away within ten minutes or so. The cream contains a range of different ingredients, most of which are a little chemical sounding, however there's obviously hemp oil (fair trade) in this, which cleanses and moisturises the skin. It is worth mentioning that none of the ingredients in the cream are tested on animals, so it is completely cruelty free.

The cream is easy to apply and I personally only need a small, fingernail sized blob for each of my hands. I only use it on my palms and my fingers though. The cream spreads over the skin nicely and once I've rubbed it over my skin, the cream sinks quickly. The cream does leave my hands feeling quite 'wet' but not greasy or sticky. If I apply too much the cream goes quite tacky so it's important to remember that a little goes a long way. The cream leaves my hands feeling instantly moisturised and 'clean', as well as noticeably softer and silky smooth. I usually apply this once a day every couple of days in the morning, however if you have very dry skin on your hands I would reccommend using it daily and getting a pair of moisture gloves and applying it both in the morning and at night. A little goes a long way with this cream and my 100ml tube has lasted me for over seven months and there's still a tiny bit left in there so there's no argueing that it is briliant value!

Overall, highly reccommended.
