“ Brand: Yankee Candle / Type: Hand Lotion / Suitable for: Hand „
It seems like Christmas is a good time to give hand lotions, body potions and facial creams, one of the reasons to why so many members at the moment are forgoing reviewing perfumes and instead concentrating on the products that are usually cheaper by pricing and have a more practical side to things offering more than one application of using the actual product. There seems to be a real bargain sales dive at the moment where body or facial lotions are concerned at the moment and that is one reason alone to why I considered buying body products this year against the more expensive EDT or Aftershave option. Shopping about EBAY when looking for gifts, my eyes were suddenly caught by a product I had not seen before; a couple of hand lotions by Yankee Candle. Not only this but two of my favourite fragrances of offer - imagine - in the States, these hand lotions are "retired," but suddenly it seems the UK are getting these by the boat load - but only on EBAY for the moment - although in Ireland, these hand lotion products seem to be also available to buy.
For a 2.5 oz clear soft feeling tube and at a cost of £2-99 I was positively delighted! The price alone for the quantity made me realize that perhaps I would be either buying into something that doesn't work, thus just buying the label alone, or a product that had little scent. For the price though, I must say that even when considering buying this product, the farthest thing in my mind was availability. Having Googled the hand lotion, there is also a body lotion too but this hand lotion also goes by the name of "Purse Lotion," so aptly named as its small enough to slip into a purse, I suppose. Yankee Candle UK don't even stock this product whilst the U.S have a brand new line up of hand washes and more body products planned later on in the year. This is bad news for a fan like me - I'm saving up so I can buy direct from Yankee Candle U.S!
Like the candle, Yankee Candle have dressed the same product with the same white label, this time in country styling against the squarish rectangular label that adorns the jars. The cream is white in colour and quite milky. The best news though is that it absolutely reeks of the Clean Cotton scent! Fresh, appealing washing powder that gives you that just clean feeling. A hand lotion that smells of washing powder? It's a good idea, especially if you want to feel clean by the scent alone! What could be better?
Well the good news is, this stuff is quite rich despite the cheap price I paid and the scent doesn't die down into a stale smell of sweaty washing powder like you'd get if you forgot about the just dried clothing in a tumble dryer! I was so overwhelmed by the scent I went back to the seller and decided to get another tube as a Christmas stocking filler gift, also spurned on by my friend who remarked after three hours of trying the cream, that she still stank of washing powder! The beauty of this little tube isn't the fact that it may well be made for Yankee Candle, or that it may well have a long lasting scent that stays true to the reputation staked out by the likewise named classic fragranced candle. Yankee Candle's hand lotion has a super moisturizing effect that lasts quite a long time, about the same effect from my Deep Sea Magik's hand cream, reviewed last year, and as I recall that was twice the price for the same quantity. What you get here is super softness for a good couple of hours, a silky feeling to the hands once the cream dries in, doesn't leave my hands sticky and it doesn't leave my hands feeling greasy either. It is also very easy to wash off. Why on earth have Yankee Candle UK not sold this to the many sellers in the UK remains a big mystery! One other boon to this product is that I find a little seems to go a long way. I only need a little splodge for softness rather than a big splat!
For those concerned about additives, the hand lotion has quite a few ingredients added but it has not been tested on animals and claims to be dermatologically tested as well as being hypoallergenic. Good news all around for those who worry about additives or testing fields. Apart from the obvious downside of availability, one minor downside of this product is that isn't that suitable for very dry skin. Those with eczema or similar severe dry skin allergies should approach this product with caution, regardless of whether it is hypoallergenic or not and I'm saying this from a family member who has a severe dry skin condition, and to whom snatched this out of my hands to try! I only suffer from mild dry skin and I haven't used the cream on any other part of my body apart from my hands. I may well have reviewed hand cream in the past and don't normally like to list ingredients. However, on the basis that this hand lotion product is such a super find and with it being so rare with NO info on the net, the following ingredients are listed on the back of the pack:
Water, Isopropyl Myristate, Cyclomethicone Petrolatum, Stearic Acid, propylene glycol, Fragrance, Glyceryl stearate, PEG-100 Stearate, cetyl alcohol, Aloe barbademsis Leaf extract, Cucumis Sattivus (Cucumber), Fruit extract, Chamomilla Recutita, (Matricaria) Flower extract, Rosa Canina Fruit Extract, Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis (Sweet Almond) Seed Extract, Dimethiconol, Triethanolamine, Carbomer, Butylene Glycol, Diazolidinyl Urea, Methylparaben and Propyparaben.
Following the lack of availability of Dead Sea Spa Magik's super hand cream product, I think I'll be fine for the next couple of months thanks to Yankee Candle. Saved by the price and yet the super softness this cream gives, the product is well worth seeking on scent alone and one application seems to just last a very long time. It does what it says and Yankee Candle UK would be mad not to stock it! Even if there are a few ingredients of Scientic names I have no idea about, I have extra peace of mind that known names of vegetables and foods I can relate to are in this product. All I need to do now is search for a Cinnamon one and I'll be complete! If this product was more widely available, you'd be seeing five stars here. Thanks for reading. ©Nar2 2011
PS Having just spoken to a Yankee Candle UK representative, YC UK can't confirm whether they are bringing this product in - however in the Summer and Autumn, YC UK will be releasing hand sanitizer products. Not the same, but a good move away from their scented candles and lets buyers have an even wider gain into this company.
