Rolson 5m/16ft Tape Measure
Advantages: Clear and easy to read
Disadvantages: None at all
When Mark and myself moved into our house my parents bought us a box of lots of different bits and pieces that we hadn't even thought of buying but they were all practical things that over the past 3 years have all been used. One of those items was a steel tape measure, the Rolson 16 foot Steel Tape Measure to be exact.
The Rolson steel ruler is yellow and black in colour and has a tough rubber casing over it. The ruler has the Rolson logo on the side where it also gives the length, 5 meters or 16 foot. The ruler has a wrist strap attached to the back of it and on one side is a belt clip, I've personally never used this but its handy to have there just in case.
The actual ruler is made from steel and is yellow in colour, measurements are given in inches and centimetres, these are written clearly in black with every 10 centimetres and 1 foot written in red, 1/8 of an inch and mm's are also marked. The end of the ruler has a metal hook on it which is handy if you are measuring something alone.
The Rolson ruler has a little yellow button on the front which is described as a "thumb operated lock", this simply pushes and locks the tape measure in place, once again handy if you are measuring alone. There is also a little yellow button on the side which will automatically retract the measure back into the case, this does wizz back pretty quickly so its advisable to keep your hands out of the way.
I have been surprised just how much we've used the steel ruler over the 3 years we've been in our house. Its been so handy for many things. We've used it to measure the floors for carpets, laminate etc. Its been used a lot in the garden for fencing and when we measured up for the patio. The little metal hook on the end of the ruler is really handy as it means you can hook it to one end of whatever you are measuring and it will stay put, it means you wont always need 2 people.
The thumb lock is also something I really find useful, I've often measured something then realised I haven't got anything to write on, with the tape locked in position I haven't lost the measurement before I can write it down.
My husband Mark has also found the ruler useful, especially in the loft when he measured it ready to board the floor up there. The Rolson ruler isn't something we use everyday but its an item that we have certainly been pleased with. Its nicely marked, clear, easy to read and accurate.
The Rolson Steel Ruler is available from DIY stores and online shops, it costs approximately £5.00 or under depending where you buy from.
I would certainly recommend the Rolson 5 Meter, 16 Foot Steel Ruler, its a handy item to have and useful both in the home and garden.
