Fat Stanley has a chiselled chin to the max

These chisels are about 305mm in length and come in an array of width, from a mere 6mm to a nice chunky 50mm, but they are all built to the same tough standard and are designed to withstand a good whack with Jeremy Clarkson's favourite tool, the good old hammer, without the handles splitting on impact. The reason that the handles to not split on impact is because there is a wad of flattened metal covering the top of the handle. This wad of metal is actually the same piece of metal that goes straight through the handle and becomes the actual blade are of the chisel. Meaning that the metal in these chisels is one piece and it is that piece that you are striking with the hammer.

The handles are made of a solid moulded plastic which covers just under half of the metal, being moulded around the impact shaft. You can see the actual metal shaft through the yellow transparent plastic material that the handles are made of.

The metal itself strong and takes each strike on the chest, so to speak, without bouncing back or showing signs of weakness.

The blade area of the chisel is flat on the one side and shaped on the other side, the front and sides of this side sloping perfectly in order to give the chisel the best chance of slicing through the wood.

These chisels came pre-sharpened, with others that I have bought needing to be honed in order to start using them, but these were ready to use straight out of the pack.

It is the fact that this chisel is made of one complete piece of metal, with a handle moulded around the metal shaft, that makes this chisel as strong as it is, even when you whack it with a solid hammer. No more struggling to find a wooden mallet to strike the top of the flimsy wooden handles.

This sells for about £15 which may sound a lot for a chisel but the quality and the strength of this one make it well worth the money.
