Betty Boop Coin Purse
Advantages: Looks great, very well made and of high quality, secure clasp to avoid it opening in your bag
Disadvantages: The front design is printed rather than stitched
I'm a fan of Betty Boop, while I don't have the huge collections of figurines that other people have (and that I secretly covet) I like to buy myself little 'bits' when I see them to brighten up my day to day life. The most recent Betty Boop item I bought was this sweet little coin purse; originally I bought it with the express intention of keeping it in the glove box of the car with a few pound coins in for car parking and the like, but after handling it for a few minutes I decided I'd keep it in my handbag as it's much too good to spend it's life languishing in the dark recesses of my car!
Please note, my purse is slightly different to the one you can see above. The basic purse shape is the same and so is the front design, but the back of my purse features lots of tiny little Betty Boop figures in the same sexy pose. I prefer it to the one pictured actually as it looks much more fun than the simple Betty Boop logo, although that design may suit people who are looking for a less 'in your face' purse.
This is a clasp purse and doesn't feature a zip or any other fastening; I think it's great, I've not used this style of purse for years but really like it. The clasp is very secure so won't come undone in your bag, the only problem being that it's so secure that it's quite stiff to open and close so some of the silvering has flaked off where the two metal pieces are constantly bashing one another. This hasn't had a bad impact on the appearance of the purse as you can only see the flaking if you look closely at the inner section of the clasp, but I know it's there and find it quite annoying every time I notice it!
The interior of the purse is lined with a silky hot pink and black patterned material; this has been stitched down on all sides (including to the bottom seam of the purse) so it won't billow out each time I tip my purse upside down, or on the occasions when I snag my nail in the lining it means I don't inadvertently pull the whole lining upwards as I extract my finger. The lining is of lovely quality, far better than I was expecting actually when I bought it. It feels soft and silky but hasn't bobbled or snagged at all - the fabric is taut to the sides of the purse so when there are coins inside I don't have to hunt among folds of loose material each time.
The purse isn't huge, I know it looks quite bulky in the piccie but from the bottom to the top it only measures around 4" - obviously you don't need it to be bigger than that considering it's mainly going to be loose coins you're carrying around in it, if you have cards that need to be transported it'll be no good as they simply won't fit properly and will pull the purse out of shape if you can manage to get it closed. I use it for what it's intended for, coins and the occasional note which has to be folded to within an inch of its life to get it comfortably inside. It'll hold a reasonable amount of coinage, obviously it's impossible for me to give you an exact amount here but I've never felt the need to upgrade it to a larger coin purse anyway - my five year old used it recently when she had a fete at school and needed change for the various stalls, we got together £10 worth of mixed silver and the purse coped admirably with that even if it did get very heavy!
The Betty Boop design on the exterior of the purse is a print rather than being embroidered on, this is a shame as when I bought it it looked stitched. The print is a quality one with bright vibrant colours and it hasn't peeled or lost any of it's colour so far, I'd have still preferred it to be embroidered on but I suppose that would have sent the cost of the purse spiraling to such a degree that I probably wouldn't have bought it in that case. I only paid £5.99 for it which in my opinion is a reasonable price for a purse that isn't a necessity as such, I obviously have a full sized purse for my notes and cards but don't mind paying this small price for something to chuck in my bag with coins in it to ensure I always have change for parking and the like.
Summary: A gorgeous little coin purse; it won't hold your millions (ha!) but is great for stashing coins
