Advantages: Looks quirky, waterproof

Disadvantages: Expensive when others are so cheap

I've never seen a Candy Store Coin Purse before, but once I saw it I had to have a squeeze! They're rubber purses which come in neon colours and they have a cute traditional clasp closure. Now, as a 30 year old mother it's not something which is really going to be something I use - I need practicality, unfortunately, I need card slots and receipt areas and all sorts of stuff, and as you can probably tell, the Candy Store Coin Purse is a very basic coin purse with no bells and whistles. It appeals primarily to children and teenagers and it is unmistakably girly. I could see a festival goer taking it out because it's waterproof and easy to find if you drop it, too.

The cost varies, I've seen it from £5 to £8 and it is available in trendy clothes shops and oddly gadget shops too, I got mine in a concession in Selfridges in Manchester City Centre in bright neon pink as a gift for my niece, who is actually 19 and a cyber goth, hence the neon! It's quite well made, not that there is much too it, and she did love it, so on that basis, I'd give it five out of five. The clasp is nice and strong and the rubber is soft, not rigid or thin. I do think the purse will last.

However. I went into Primark today with a friend and found that copies of the Candy Store Coin Purse are only £1! I checked them out, gave them the once over, they felt the same, looked identical and were available in a variety of neon colours. To be honest I'm going to therefore knock a star off this review because why pay £6 for something you can just as easily pick up for £1? As a stocking filler I know what I'd do. So whilst the Candy Store Coin Purse is quite nice, and makes a good gift, I saw nothing wrong with the cheaper alternative. Overall I do recommend it but if you have the opportunity to pick up a lookie likey for a quid in Primark obviously I recommend you do that more!

Summary: A nice gift but can be found cheaper
