Cath Kidston Cut Roses Saddle Bag
Advantages: Spacious, plenty of pockets
Disadvantages: Buckles come loose, light colour, no zip on main compartment
In September I was supposed to be starting a course for work, even though I already had a few bags that would be perfectly suitable for carrying pens and folders around in I thought it would be a good excuse to buy a new one.
I already knew that I wanted a Cath Kidston one and started looking at what different styles were available with prices starting at £48 I decided I would look on ebay first and see if I could get myself a bargain. After getting outbid on a couple of bags I was finally lucky with this one. Then I found out that the course had been cancelled due to lack of interest!
Measuring around 32 cm wide, 24 cm high and 9 cm in depth the bag is very spacious, as my course was cancelled I haven't actually used the bag to carry any study stuff in but before I found out that it had been cancelled I had tried an A4 folder in it and it fitted without any difficulty.
I'm now using the bag for work, and when I go shopping and have found that because of it's size it's great. As well as the main compartment there are an additional 7 pockets on and in the bag. Four of these are on the outside of the bag with two larger ones on the front and two smaller ones on the sides. Inside the bag there is one pocket which has a zipper on it which is on the back of the bag, and the last two are on the front.
The amount of pockets for me is great, I can put my car keys in the zipped up pocket so I know where there are - otherwise I would be fishing around in the bag panicking that I'd lost them. My house keys with rather larger plush elephant key ring fit perfectly in one of the front pockets, and my mobile is a good snug fit in one of the inner ones. The others get used for things like painkillers, lip balm, lip gloss - all of a girl's essentials.
Of course once you have put a few bits and pieces into the bag it can get a bit on the heavy side, but the large across the body strap means that the weight is distributed more evenly so it does feel so heavy when you are wearing it. The strap is also adjustable so that you can make sure it's as comfortable as possible for you.
There is a flap which covers the bag to close it, this fastens with two press studs which are on an adjustable buckle, so if you have a full bag you can lengthen the buckle and still close the bag.
My favourite thing about the bag is the pattern which is pale pink roses and blue flowers against a stone / cream coloured material, making it recognisable as Cath Kidston material. I was initially worried when I first got it that it would get dirty quite quickly with it being a light colour but so far it's fairing quite well - although I am being über careful with it!!
I really love this bag and it's proving to be really useful even if I'm not actually using it for what I originally bought it for. My only criticism of it is that when I was out shopping one day one of the buckles fell off of it, I'm wondering if I thought I'd left the press studs undone and tried opening the bag without undoing them. However it happened I didn't notice straight away so I couldn't go back and find it as I didn't know which shop it was in. I think it might be a common problem with this style of bag as I've seen a few for sale on ebay that have the buckles missing.
When I got home I thought I would be cheeky and email Cath Kidston and ask if they had any spares, to my surprise they replied and said they would have a look and send one out to me. I thought considering I hadn't bought the bag directly from them they might not be willing to help, but a few days later one arrived in the post.
I was lucky and managed to get my bag for a bargain price of £22 (new with tags) I think I would be willing to pay around £30-35 for it but I'm not sure if I would pay the full RRP of £48 as it is only made from canvas material. Having said that though you can tell it has been made very well and is a quality item. The seems are all very well stitched and it is coping well with the amount of stuff I throw into it on a daily basis including hardback books and my pack up some days.
Summary: A pretty yet strong bag.
