As a vegetarian who avoids buying leather, it can be hard to find a handbag that's durable and made of non-animal materials. Non-leather handbags are often the ones that fall apart within five minutes. I was delighted to find these Cath Kidston box bags, which are made of cotton coated in PVC and are very tough, and am lucky enough to own two of these bags now - one has a white background and red flowers, and the other is a dark navy bag with pink flowers. The patterns of the box bags vary from time to time, and you can currently get polka dots, several floral designs or one that's covered in London landmarks. Cath Kidston's style isn't for everyone, but I think these bags are very pretty. The box bag has a zip-shut design and my two each have an inner pocket for small items such as mobile phones, although I believe the newer bags have a zipped pocket on the outside of the bag. Apart from this one pocket, the bag is plain on the inside - not one for those who love lots of compartments. I can handle having everything in the one space and rummaging through my bag when I want something, but this bag may get on your nerves if you're an organiser! I find that the design of these bags means I can carry quite a lot in a bag that's not overly large. The fabric of the bags means they are very easy to maintain - the label states the bag shouldn't be washed, but I give mine a wipe from time to time and they have stayed in good condition. I also like the fact that these bags have small handles and are definitely for carrying in your hands, not being a fan of shoulder bags. (This is a shortened version of the intended review).
I absolutely adore Cath Kidston and I received this bag for Christmas this year off my sister as she knows how much I love both my bags and the quirky retro designs of Cath Kidston.
The one I have is different to the print that dooyoo have as mine has a more unusual pattern for Cath Kidston instead of the usual flowers or poladots. My one has a pattern of horses and riders as well as dogs. It is really cute and quirky and although different I knew immediately it was still a Cath Kidston bag as it still has the same retro feel to it.
The bag is made of oilcloth which means that the bag is not only waterproof but it also protects my belongings from spills and things. It is really durable and if I spill coffee on it I can just wipe it down.
The bag is a box shape hence the name but mine is different from some of the others I have seen in that it is a little smaller. According to the website the one I have is considered mini but although it is smaller than the others it is still a fairly good size.
I can pack in a purse, umbrella, mobile, make-up and a few other odds and ends and there is still some room in it so I wouldn't say it was too small to be practical as it isn't.
The bag has a zip which completely seals it so everything is not only protected from the rain but it also gives a little bit of extra security for my belongings if I was to travel on the train. The handles are a really nice size for holding the bag and they aren't either too big or too small and the bag sits perfectly to my knee when I am walking along. The handles are too short for putting it over my shoulder but this isn't the kind of bag where that would be practical anyway as it is designed to be held instead.
Although I've only had the bag a short time it looks and feels really well made and if it is anything like the other Cath Kidston products that I own then it should last for a long time as everything that I have ever bought from them has been really well made.
The Kath Kidston website is selling this bag for £18 on their sale while it's normal price is £24. I do feel this is a high price for an oilcloth bag as they are basically just shopping bags but you are paying for the name, the quality and most importantly the gorgeous pattern on it.
Product: Cath Kidston Box Bag
I'm a huge Cath Kidston fan, I love all of their different but unique designs which have that vintage-y feel to it, with their most well known design being the floral ditsy print.
I needed an additional bag to take to work with me as I couldn't fit everything which I needed to take with me into my handbag, especially my lunch and other things such as an umbrella, snacks and my stationary/planner.
As I was still taking my handbag along with me too I wanted an additional small but spacious bag which i could hold easily in my hand or at the crook of my arm with ease without it being too big or bulky and this is where the Cath Kidston Box Bag came in, this fitted the bill perfectly. I bought the Cath Kidston Bird Print Box Bag from www.cathkidston.co.uk for £26.00.
As I travel on public transport to and from work i wanted a bag which would be long lasting and hardwearing. The bag is made from durable wipeable oilcloth fabric so it is easily cleanable and waterproof from any rain or any spillages.
The design of my box bag differs from the design above and is a bird print which is a beautiful floral ditsy print with small birds scattered inbetween. The base colour of the bag is cream with pink/blue/green flowers and the birds are brown with a red/white breast. This design is repeatedly printed around the exterior of the bag.
The shape of the bag is just as the description states; a box shape with two short carry handles and a zip fastening which ensures that your belongings are kept safe and secure and also a small zip fastening at the front of the bag and another in the inner internal pocket inside. The material is soft and the bag itself is very well shaped with smooth edges.
The thing that surprised me most about the bag was how spacious it was inside. The measurements of the bag are approximately 30cms wide and 34cms deep to the top of the handles, so not too big but you really can fit in a surprisingly amount of items inside. For example today inside my bag contained; a lunchbox, umbrella, pencil case, A5 diary, bottle of drink, hat, gloves and a few chocolate gifts and it still had space for more.
I love my bag and am really pleased with the product. It's of fantastic quality, fabulously made and excellent value for money. I've been using the bag every single weekday for at least a year and it is still going strong, money definitely well spent.
Rating: A well deserved 5/5 stars.
I'm a huge fan of handbags in general (I think that I get this trait from my mum, she's got loads of handbags!), and Cath Kidston handbags in particular. Most of my family and friends know this, and so a popular (and easy!) gift to give me is always a handbag, or a voucher towards a handbag.
Just recently my aunt and cousin have been visiting for a week, my aunt stayed with my mum, and my cousin stayed with us. They bought both my mum and I Cath Kidston handbags as 'Thank You' gifts for having put them both up. They bought two of the new shape Cath Kidston box bags, in two different designs, one was in the 'Notting Hill Rose' design, and the other one was in the 'London print' design. My mum let me choose which design I would prefer first, I chose the 'London print' design as I do prefer the other Cath Kidston designs rather than her floral prints.
The Cath Kidston box bags have just recently been updated, the shape of the bag has been updated, and I have to say that I much prefer the new shape over the old shape. The old shape is pictured above, and was basically a box with two short carry handles, hence the name! The new shape is a softer box, the edges of the box are shaped and curved rather than pointed, it still has the two short carry handles, however the new shape has now lost the outside zippered pocket. I think that the new shape looks sleeker and classier, and looks more expensive, as it looks to be finished off better due to the curved edges, I thought that the old box shape with its sharp edges just looked a little bit cheap.
The Cath Kidston box bag was never on my wish list due to the old style shape, which I was never too keen on, however I absolutely love the new shape and I'm thinking of getting myself another one as well now! As with all Cath Kidston bags it's available in a few different fabric choices - I have my eye on either the sage spots or the berry red mini dots next. It's also really reasonably priced for a Cath Kidston bag at just £24.00, so it would also make an ideal gift for someone, as I absolutely loved receiving mine.
The bag itself is made from durable wipe clean oilcloth fabric, which I have found to be waterproof in the rain, and obviously any spills or drips will just wipe off this easily enough with a tissue or a wet one. The two short carry handles are also made from the same durable wipe clean oilcloth fabric. The bag fastens with a zipper which runs from about a third of the way down each side and across the top, this allows you easy access to the the whole interior of the bag. The zipper is sturdy and well made as I've had the bag full to bursting on a few occasions and the zipper shows no sign of strain or giving out. The bag has a small slip in internal pocket inside, I just normally pop my phone in this. I would have also preferred a slightly larger zippered internal pocket as well to keep my purse in, but that's just my personal preference for handbags.
I love the 'London print' design on this bag, it's not something that I would normally have chosen for myself, but so I'm glad that I received it as a gift as I'd probably never have bought it otherwise. It's a navy background, and then it has all sorts of iconic London symbols printed all over; Big Ben, The London Eye, Tower Bridge, The Houses of Parliament, Buckingham Palace, London Buses etc. It's a really quirky design and I absolutely love it, I've also had lots of comments on this when I've been out and about with it.
This isn't a huge handbag, but it's certainly adequate for most days. I can get a make up bag, perfume, deodorant, book and small size magazine, umbrella, sunglasses, glasses, contact lens case, compact camera, purse, keys, phone, ipod (OK, OK you get the picture!) etc in here. It actually does hold an awful lot, more stuff than you would think it would. I can also get my DLSR camera in here if I ditch some of the other things. The bag holds it's shape well and hasn't stretched or bowed from the amount of crap that I carry around in it!
I've had lots of use out of this box bag already, and I'm sure that I'll continue to get lots of use out of it. It is really tough and sturdy and hard wearing, and it seems like it will last for years. I would definitely recommend the new shape Cath Kidston box bag, in fact I'd recommend Cath Kidston bags in general.
Not long ago someone told me a truly shocking fact: that on average each plastic bag is used for only 20 minutes but each lasts beyond 20 years. It seems absolutely made that we glibly accept a plastic bag in every shop we go in to despite not really actually needing one. I work in a shop and I see it happen all too often but now watching people walk out with multiple bags actually strikes a chord with me.
Cruising the Cath Kidston website recently I came across one of these floral box bags on sale. I really love Cath Kidston products as they are totally feminine and hark back to a bygone era (one I definitely think I should have been born into). They are also well made items that are versatile and durable. This bag had £6 off the original £22 price, making it £16. That isn't exactly cheap for a bag but I knew I could not only do some good with it, stopping myself from using plastic bags, but also that it would last me a very long time. I ordered one straight away and was pleased when it arrived some days later.
There are many patterns available in many patterns which change regularly on the website. I personally really love her floral prints and so was glad that one of those was on sale. it is called 'Hampton Rose' and is a creamy coloured base with little pink, blue and yellow flowers. Because the majority of flowers are pink on the bag the overall effect is of a cream and pink floral pattern, I love these colours and think the pattern is very pretty and chintzy.
The bag is as it is described, box shaped (a rectangular shaped box). The bag is bigger than I initially thought it might be, which is great as I travel a lot to see my boyfriend and am always in need of a good overnight bag. I have also found it useful for taking my books back and forth to University and taking my lunch to work on the weekends. In fact it is a very versatile bag and because it is waterproof I never need to worry about taking it out in adverse weather conditions.
There is a small pocket on the inside of the bag, this is the same material as the lining and has a handy and easy to use zip. I tend to store my phone in here, or other important items like tablets and hair bands. There is also a zip on the top of the bag which is helpful as you can easily secure your items inside and not have to worry about being pick-pocketed.
The bag is made from a PVC coated fabric. As I've said this means it is waterproof which is definitely an added bonus for me as I am not only an all weather girl but also horribly clumsy. When I spill things on the bag, which I inevitably will, it will be easy to wipe anything off it with a cloth or baby wipe. This also means you can clean the bag quite easily which is a luxury most bags don't afford you.
My only major critique in fact would be the length of the handles which are sadly just too short for this to go over your shoulder. Obviously if you planned to have this as a handbag that would be wildly inconvenient, as an overnight bag it is simply mildly irritating. There is no real need for the handles to be as short as they are and if they were longer it would give you a chance to either wear it on your lower arm or over the shoulder, making it even more versatile.
I am really impressed by the durability of the bag though. I have owned it for a month of so now which isn't long but honestly it has been battered around in this time and had a fair few knocks. I would expect this to last you well over a year and possibly longer before it becomes a little too shabby.
Overall, a great bag that I'm glad to have bought on sale!
My Cath Kidston bag is the exact same pattern as the one in the picture above - although you can get this style in many different patterns on the Cath Kidston website (and elsewhere online - as I did). Floral patterns tend to be a Cath Kidston signature theme and this one is a pale blue background with a vintage rose pattern in red and pink across it.
I bought mine from ebay and paid £9.99 for it but they can be around £20 from Cath Kidston direct - it is worth shopping around. It should also be noted that I picked up a more basic bag (same shape but no zip/top flap) with an identical pattern from the Tesco range which she produced - that one was only £4.99 at the time of purchase and quickly sold out - those ones are ones you should snap up if you see them.
Anyway, this bag is a standard square tote and I use it for grocery shopping because it is strong enough and easy to carry as well as being stylish and pretty. A couple of times I have had checkout women ask where I got it, its just one of those eye catching bags!
The material is a canvas type of fabric and I have had to sponge wash mine because a bottle of red wine vinegar smashed in it when I dropped the bag rather heavily on to a concrete floor (the stain came out very easily with warm soapy water - the smell less so!). The base of the bag measures approx 50cm by 18cm and the height of the bag is 40cm. I find this is plenty big enough to be used as a shopping bag.
The handles are very securely stiched on and I have had no issues with the strength of them, I have been using this on a weekly basis as a shopping bag for nearly a year now with no issues - it is a lovely, strong and well made bag which, as I mentioned above, often draws compliments when I am using it.
When it comes to floral prints and Cath Kidston, I'm a bit of a sucker! I adore anything vintage looking, and this definitely fits in with the look.
I adore this bag. The size makes it big enough to carry an A4 folder which makes it perfect for those studying. I often fill mine up with folders and books along with my lunch to work with me. It's the perfect size for carrying and you can fit quite a lot in. The straps are very durable, I find that sometimes with carrying a large folder and books the straps often come undone, but these are perfect. The bag has an oilcloth finish, much like other Cath Kidston items, which makes it so easy to wipe clean.
I often use this as a weekend bag too, it's the perfect size - so versatile!
Overall, this bag is fantastic for those who commute with a lot of heavy items. Or you can use it as a picnic bag, or a weekend travel bag - so versatile!
The Cath Kidston box bags are available online or in Cath Kidston stores for £20. They are made from a durable oilcloth which also makes them easily cleaned. There are several different designs that are all very pretty and usually floral. The material makes the bag last longer and keeps it looking shiny and new and also it means the bag is waterproof and protects your belongings from all types of weather. The zip pocket also offers extra protection and inside there is a small pouch for smaller items, such as keys or change.
The box bag is fairly big sized 30 x 23 x 15cm which means that its a great day bag to go shopping or take food in for a small picnic. The bag is very rectangular and stays firm in its shape. The design that I purchased is green with small white flowers on it, which I think is great for all the seasons and really feminine. There is not a huge amount of branding and just a small white tag that says Cath Kidston in a nice red font.
The bag is in my opinion very pricey for one of its size and there are several similar sized bags available on the market for a fraction of the price at stores such as Primark but in this bag you are investing a lot better quality and it will last a lot longer than most of your average bags.
There are several other products that match the designs and are nice collectibles and gifts. Little girls love these products and as do women of all ages. It's a really well rounded bag that can be used for several purposes and has different styles to suit everyone.
I love this bag and would recommend it as a perfect birthday or Christmas gift.
I am a bit of a Cath Kidston addict and have collected several items over the last few years, predominantly from the Cath Kidston shop in Cheltenham. However, the only thing that puts me off is the relatively high price tag that is put on some of Cath Kidston's basic products. Imagine my pleasure when I came across an un-used Cath Kidston Box Bag on Ebay for just £4.95. Oh yes, I was very happy!
The Box Bag comes in many patterns, including Navy Mini Dot (which is that I have!), Bath Flowers, Bunch Flowers, Brown Mini Dot, Shooting Star, and Summer Blossom. There may be other styles, but these are the ones I've admired in the shop window. All designs are traditional and cute (I mean that in a good way) and stylish in their simplicity. Particularly in the summer months, I think these designs look great.
The dimensions of this bag are 29cm x 22cm x 15cm and so it is rectangularly "box" shaped in the way the name would suggest. Its a decent size bag for general everyday use and is certainly enough to carry your purse, keys, phone, a small make-up bag and a book. Because the bag is box shaped, you are able to arrange your stuff neatly inside the bag and keep it ordered. There is a small pocket on the inside lining of the bag so that I can keep smaller items within it, although this pocket is unzipped. To be honest, it would be nice to have another pocket on the outside of the bag for quick access to things like my phone - but there simply isn't one. The top of the bag has a zip on it and so it can be secured when you're not accessing it.
The bag is oilcloth and is PVC coated and so is waterproof and can be wiped over with a damp cloth to keep it clean. It can not, however, be put in the washing machine, but as you're able to wipe it down, I've found that that is really all that's needed. There is a handle on top of the bag which I personally would like a little longer so that I could comfortably carry it over my shoulder. I've found that the straps are just a little short when the bag is full for shoulder carrying, but the handle is fairly comfortable to hand carry.
I have found the bag to be sturdy and not fraying around any of the stitching has occurred.
I had noticed more and more people had these at uni and I really liked the look of them, I thought one would be perfect to carry my books in however, I thought they would be expensive and money is very tight at the moment being a student who is hoping to save up and move in August. Therefore, imagine my joy when my lovely boss got me one for Christmas!
There are many designs available. My boss got me the design which is one of my favourites, it is a spray flower design (similar to above but a white background). I'm not sure where she bought it from but many designs can be found from cathkidston.co.uk for around £20 each which is less than I thought they would retail for.
The box bag is rectangular in shape and is quite boxy (hence the name). The bag is made from oil cloth which means it is waterproof and also will wipe clean easily if anything gets on it. My design is a white background with small clusters of pink flowers with small blue flowers too. I love the design, it is very feminine and I think it looks very summery. I like the fact it is white as it means it goes with the majority of my clothes. There is a large Cath Kidston tag on the outside too.
The bag has a zip fastening which I like because it means everything is kept safe and dry inside. Inside, the bag is white and there is one inside pocket. This is a good size and can easily keep a mobile phone in or your car keys. I find it useful to seperate things I need to find quickly in my bag such as my keys or my library card.
The bag is a good size. It is about 35 cm long, 25 cm tall and 15 cm wide. I use the bag for a variety of purposes but mainly for a change of clothes when I am staying away for the night. The bag easily fits in an entire change of clothes, my pyjamas and my wash bag so it is a great size.
The bag just about fits on my shoulder (on top of a big coat) but I tend to just carry it or pop it on my elbow.
I love this bag, it is very stylish and very feminine. There are lots of designs available to suit everyones tastes and for the price I think its fab. Recommended.
