      Advantages

      Disadvantages

A good bag for not my style

I have been doing a big clear out recently in our house of literally everything. My wardrobe was the first port of call and I came across this Kipling Hubei Bag that had been given to me for my birthday a few years ago. A Kipling Hubei Bag costs anything from £35+ so it isn't cheap given how compact and small it is. However, Kipling has a name and I suppose that is what you are paying for.

This Hubei bag comes in different colours however I was given one in a light beige/cream colour. This is a shoulder bag with 140cm length shoulder strap that can be adjusted to your own style, and can be used as a cross body bag, although the bag itself can sit quite high up compared to some other cross body bags I have. The bag comes with a little monkey keyring, that seems to be quite a theme with Kipling bags. The Kipling logo also sits on the front of the bag.

This fabric bag has two main compartments, one larger and one smaller front one. Inside the bigger part of the bag is a zip to offer a safe place to put keys etc There are also pockets for putting pens and your phone as well, so you can keep this bag organised despite its small size.

When I got this bag, I thought it looked cute and definitely the kind of bag that I would use, as I like to have a big bag and a smaller cross body bag for those days when I don't need to carry much (before my daughter came along!!) or when I am going out a walk to the shops and only need my purse. However, everytime I got this bag out to wear, I ended up taking it off. Yes, it fitted all I wanted and held all the basics that I had such as phone, purse, keys etc, but it just didn't seem either as modern looking as my other cross body bags. There was something a little more old fashioned about the shape of this bag compared to some of the more rectangular cross body bags. So, although I cannot say that there is anything in particular wrong with this bag, it is a good bag, but it just isn't my style, and just not modern enough for me. I'm glad it wasn't me who paid the £35+ amount for this bag, and I think wormen who are older will like this more than I did, and it has now ended up in a bag heading to my local charity shop.

      Advantages

      Disadvantages

Great little Kilpling bag - lightweight and fashionable

      ---The Brand---

Kipling was founded in 1987 in Belgium.

      ---The Monkeys---

Every Kipling bag comes with a monkey key-hanger, which can be removed if you do not like that sort of thing.

      --Why I Bought---

Like many others I was very sceptical about the rave reviews that I was hearing about Kipling bags.
However I am now a proud owner of a few myself and now I also rave about them!
This bag I was able to pick up for about £14 when on offer with Javari and Amazon.
I bought the Black Laquer version (as in picture above) as I had not seen the laquer finish ones and ecided to give them a try.

      ---About Kipling Bags---

They are so lightweight, washable (though the manufacturers state they should be spot cleaned - but they can be easily washed at 30 degrees in a machine or gently by hand).

      ---Kipling Advantages---

      1 - Lightweight
2 - Lots of organisation pockets
3 - Some cross body for convenience
      4 - Nice chunky zip-pulls
5 - Cute monkey keyring - which can be removed if you choose
6 - Lots of colour choices
      7 - Easy to clean.

      ---The Hubei Bag---

      A nice small shoulder bag:
      17.8 x 7.6 x 15.2 cm
      Adjustable shoulder strap (140cm2cm)
      Zipped front pocket
      Zipped main compartment containing:
      clipped keycord
      zipped pocket
      mobile phone drop pocket
      2 pen pockets
Original furry Kipling monkey key ring
fabric: nylon with TPU top coating (on Laquer version)
      lining: polyester

      ---Colours---

At present the bag is selling on the Kipling website in 19 colours.
The standard bag comes in a range of colours from the normal black, and brown to vibrant pinks, greens, red and purple.
The laquer finish (TPU top coating) is a coating over the normal bag that gives it a semi shiney finish - these are in black, red, khaki - the patterned Kipling bags also tend to be more expensive.

      ---Price---

      I paid £14.60.
As with most Kipling bags the price for different colours varies from day to day and at present (January 2012) the price on the Kipling website goes from £29.40 to £35 but these are currenty on offer and this is the reduced price.
Amazon has 12 different colours varying in price from £21 up to £42 (at full price the laquer ones would be £52).

      ---Disadvantages---

      Cost at full price.

      ---My Opinion---

I just love my Hubei bag and the Laguer finish makes it more 'dressy' than the normal nylon bags.
The front zip pocket can hold my phone - inside the main zipped section can be used for my camera, a comb, pens and small purse - the small zipped pocket inside I use for headache stick, lipsil and perfume.
I love having all the different pockets to keep my stuff organised and the only downside of any Kipling bag I would say would be the cost - but I kept an eye out and purchased mine when on offer - which they are sometimes on Amazon or Javari.
The Laguqer finish is a sort of semi patent - not quite as shiny as a patent bag would be but still having a glossy finish - but it isd soft and supple to feel - not at all hard or stiff.
When the bag is empty is weighs next to nothing and squashes flat - which is great for me as I use a mobility scooter a lot of the time and this is not too heavy and is nice and squashy so will fit in my basket easily.
The zips are chunky and strong with Kipling logo on the zip pulls.
The fabric and lining are both water resistant - so unless you are out in a complete downpour the contents should be alright - I was caught in a hail shower and all the contents stayed dry.
The prices vary so much for the different Kipling designs and colours it is always worth checking online and you may be able to pick up a bargain.

      ---Star Rating---

4 stars - the bag would get 5 but because of cost I gave it a 4.

      ---Would I Recommend?---

Yes definitely - this is one of my favourite Kipling bags so far and I intend to get it in some other colours if I can grap myself a bargain price sometime!

      ---Website---

You can also find various clips showing the size and layout of various Kipling bags by visiting YouTube.

      ---Availability---

Can be found in many shops but I get mine on line mostly from Amazon or Javari.
You can also buy then from the official Kipling website, QVC shopping channel or various other handbag websites.

Summary: Great versatile Kipling bag - cross body, shoulder.
