I've owned a couple of Lulu Guinness handbags over the years (see my reviews) and have wanted a matching purse for absolutely ages. It was my birthday recently and so I asked my parents for a purse from this fabulous designer.
Having looked at the selection on the website and also having visited the store last year I knew this was the one for me. I wanted one that was quite a decent size, classic design and versatile in terms of colour if I change the handbag I own at some point.
This purse is a black patent lather large frame design. It is 20cm in width, 12.5 in height and 3 cm in depth. The dimensions of it make it the perfect fit for my handbag though if you preferred small bags then it probably would be a little large (though they do a smaller version). The size makes it great for storing everything I need when out and about and it looks totally fabulous too.
The purse is rectangular and the black patent leather is lovely and shiny. It does get a little marked by fingers/water etc so I do find myself giving it a wipe down every now and then. It is super easy to clean and the black makes it a great versatile piece that I'm sure I'll keep for a very long time. On the outside of the purse there is a small leather plate with 'Lulu Guinness' on it which embellishes the side. The purse opens with a clip top which pulls apart easily. This is made from a silver metal and each clip has a little LG engraved on it which adds another lovely embellishment.
The purse is lined by the beautiful black and cream striped lining fabric. My handbag is actually lined with a similar fabric that is black and has cream lips on it. I like the fact that the two fabrics use the same colours and material and yet have different designs. My previous handbag from the designer has the same lining as the purse does and I found it wears really well.
There is a central part which separates the sides of the purse with a compartment with a zip. The zip is silver metal and has a pully which is a tiny little model of a vanity mirror with a LG engraved in the middle. I have the same pully on my handbag and I think they are super cute. My only irritating with this is that it is slightly near the top of the purse where it closes and sometimes it gets in the way. I tend to keep coins in this middle compartment which is really useful, you just have to remember to keep it zipped up otherwise they go everywhere!
One side of the middle compartment has a open space where I tend to put notes and vouchers/coupons. It also has an inside pocket which I keep documents in like a photocopy of my birth certificate. The other size of the middle compartment has 6 card slots and then a pocket behind where I keep additional cards. I think the design is nice and very slimline which is great because I tend to keep a lot of other stuff in my handbag.
The purse costs £135 and you really get what you pay for as far as I am concerned. You probably do pay a premium for the name, but the quality of materials is really great. I imagine I'll be holding onto this one for a very long time and it is unlikely it will need replacing for at least another 3-4 years. My previous handbag lasted a good 4 years and was still in a pretty good state by the time I got a new one so I am optimistic about the longevity of the purse.
Overall, I am extremely happy with my purse. I know it is a high price to pay but I definitely think it is worth the extra money to get something timeless and great quality.
