=Monochrome Across Body Bag=
Last year I was invited to a Christening, but it was not in the traditional sense of a church ceremony, it was being held in a hotel, so it was a bit of a what do I wear.
I found a dress on the internet, white with a black trim, bargain, but I needed a new handbag to go with it, as a white handbag just clashed with the dress, and a black just looked to heavy.
=Hit all shops=
I just hit the fashion shops, as I didn't want to spend a lot on what could a one dress wonder bag, the minute I saw this bag in New Look I just had to have it, it was perfect.
The best part was the price, £12.99. and the bag was white and black, you would have thought it had been made just for the dress. The bag was also available in different colour ways, but I didn't really take any notice of these. The bag has a snakeskin design pattern, but this is very subtle.
The bag was perfect, as it had a long strap so that I could use the bag as a over the body bag, as well as a small handle meaning I could carry it in my hands
The bag is made from 100% polyurethane on the outer part and 100% polyester lining.
The main base of the bag was black, with the flip over being white, whilst the strap handles and the clasp are all gold, which brings a beautiful element to the bag. The main fastening is a push button clasp, which is secure without being obtrusive.
The measurements of the bag are 22cm long, 6,5cm in width and 18.5cm high.
You could have the most expensive bag in the world, but unless you can get what you need in there the bags no good. I am pleased to say this bag scored a massive 10/10 for the inside space.
I got the usual items in, purse, camera, keys, tissues, make up bag, sunglasses, wet wipes and yet there was still room, but I did not want to over load it.
=Was it a one off wonder=
I am really pleased to say that I still have the bag, it still gets used, from going out on holiday to going out and about. The bag still looks good, and I can really say that this was one of the best purchases I have made.
=Would I recommend=
I would highly recommend this bag from New Look, and it really does look a million dollars.
I got this bag just before graduation. I needed a bag in which I could fit a small hairbrush, my phone, concealer, lip-gloss, perfume and some money. So just your general bag contents then. I also needed the bag to be small enough and smart enough to take into the ceremony and leave under my seat while I went up to get hit on the head with a cushion etc.
~~~ The Bag ~~~
This bag has a long adjustable, across body strap with little hooked connectors so that it can be removed. There is also a small handle on top so that you can carry the bag like a little mini suitcase. All of the metal work on the bag is a gold colour. Inside of the bag is plain black and there is a decent sized zip pocket and a little pouch for your mobile phone. The black lining is made of 100% polyester and the outer is made of polyurethane. The outer part of the bag is quite shiny and has a snakeskin type pattern.
The bag is quite solid and structured. It measures 22cm by 18.5cm and is 7cm deep. It is obviously reinforced and made to maintain its shape. This means that the bag looks really neat and square at all times...but it also means that its nigh on impossible to squeeze any extra items into it!
~~~ My Experience ~~~
Before graduation, I had a little practice putting things in and seeing what would fit. Although the bag is a decent size, due to the rigid shape of it, it does not hold more than the essentials.
I began to put all of my items in carefully. The fit quite nicely and I managed to buckle the bag using the little push lock buckle at the front. Great, it all fits. Cut to a week later and we are driving up University Avenue. I have taken my hair brush and perfume out of the bag to give my hair a quick once over and get a quick skoosh of perfume. My dad pulls in to the main gate to let me jump out while they find a space. I rush to put my perfume back in my bag and push the buckle down and... aaagh! It broke! Turns out the buckle is attached to the "lid" part of the bag rather precariously! It is attached using two rows of little metal teeth which are obviously clipped through the polyurethane material at the edge of the "lid" using some strong machine or pliers. Do I have pliers with me on graduation day? No! So the lid of the bag is flapping around all over the place and my hairbrush handle is sticking out. Hmm, not a good look for the splendour and glory of Bute Hall. So I had to quickly dump all of my stuff into a spare handbag (old faithful) that was kicking about the back of the car.
I was pretty saddened to have to leave my very pretty but now unusable bag in the car while I went off to collect my robes and tickets! I promptly forgot about the bag in the hustle and bustle of the day.
A week or so later I dug out the bag and my dad fixed it using super glue and pliers. I'm now very careful to only put the minimum number of things into the bag. On graduation day I'd had too much in it. It only all fit when it was carefully arranged. The stress of pushing the little buckle though when the bag was overfull was enough to undo the little metal teeth which held the buckle in place.
~~~ Conclusion ~~~
The good things about this bag are numerous. It is comfortable to wear, it swings nicely off the shoulder and you have a handy little handle on top. You have a secure zip pocket for anything valuable and you also have a separate pouch for you mobile. The bag keeps its shape beautifully and looks really pretty for both day and night.
Yes there are a few negatives - you have to be careful how you fill it before buckling or the buckle can break. It doesn't fit very much into it.
I think the biggest negative for me was just the buckle going so easily. It wasn't pushed too hard, it was just slightly full and the buckle dropped off. I'm lucky enough to have a dad who can fix just about anything so the buckle on the bag is now about 100 times more secure than it was originally. And yet I'm still wary it will fall off!
On the whole, I love the look of this bag, it's pretty and smart. I like the way it hangs on my shoulder and it's nice and structured. However, the dodgy buckle does ruin it slightly. So it's a choice... style or functionality.
This bag cost £12.99 from New Look and it was also available in pink.
This over the shoulder bag from New Look is ideal for casual wear and days out in the city where you want a bag that is comfortable and that you can position in front of your body so you can keep an eye on it whiole on the underground and in busy areas. I guess when first purchased it could be worn for a more formal occasion depending on your outfit however I did find that this bag did not age very well and after a couple of months of use including a couple or six nights out it losts its veneer as it were and started to look a little shabby.
It is made from polyurathane and being from New Look is was a pretty cheap price, I think I paid £14.99. It is black and white in colour, the main body of the bag is black with a white panel at the front that lifts up to gain access to the insides. Running down the middle of the white panel is a balck strip. There is a black handle and black strap as well so there are two ways of carrying this. Overall it is quite a sharp glossy design that is simple but also quite effective and noticeable when you first wear it. The downside is that being from New Look you may not be the only one seen out with it. The thing is for this type of money my expectations are not exactly high and from a distance this bag does look quite nice, it is only when you are close up and touch it that you know it is not top quality.
It has a gold fastener for the flap which is reasonably secure but you do have to keep an eye on it as it is not hard to open and it does tend to deteriorate a bit in terms of how easy it is to pop open when in general use. Inside there is a zipped section for your valuables and this is big enough to handle a phone and ipod. Storage wise the bag will handle the essentials but it is not the sort of bag I would take away with me on holiday as both the style and robustness are not good enough.
For the price it is good value, if I paid that amount for a top I would not expect it to last a long time and that is the case with a bag, it is a cheap throw away fashion bag and in that respect it is good value and worth 4 stars.
This monochrome bag has been made using man made fabrics, and has measurements of 22cm long, 6.5cm wide and 18.5cm high. There is a subtle snake pattern on the bag which gives it a wonderful texture. (I think it makes it look less plastic also).
There is a 'push button' release catch on the bag, which helps valuables secure. It is a rather orange shade of gold, but it does glam the bag up for evening wear. The long strap is fully adjustable and can be removed if you prefer to have a hand held bag which is a nice feature. I fend I tend to have it set on the longest setting, and although it could be worn across the body it's a little to short for me to do that (My bust gets in the way)...
Over all I feel that bag is too small to be of much use during the day if you have plans to go shopping and need to have either a book or a bottle of water say for a train journey - however it is a lovely size to carry a few bits out to lunch or maybe for work - if you have packed light.
The bag for me represents good value for money being £12.99 currently, and it available in two other colours (Blue block one colour all over, and a Peachy snake effect again one colour all over).
Having has the bag for a while now I can say that the PVC type material didn't wear very well, and started to kind of crack where the bag flap lifts, and bends.... For this it looses another star - as I haven't used it often enough to warrant it falling apart like this...
When I was going to Essex for my birthday I needed a bag which would fit in well with my cream dress and black and cream shoes. I didn't want a clutch style bag because I wanted to be able to have my hands free for holding my drink and having a good old boogie and so when I was in new look and spotted the monochrome across body bag in a black and white colour I decided that that would be the bag for the night.
The bag is made from 100% polyurethane on the outer part and 100% polyester lining and so there isn't really anything flash about this bag. It cost just £12.99 though and for me this is about the right sort of price to pay for a bag which isn't my day to day bag.
It features a black main body but the part of the bag which lifts up at the front to grant access to the inner part is an off white, almost creamy coloured, mock snake type material with a black section splitting it in two. I normally stay well clear of anything with a mock snake type pattern as I find it often looks cheap and nasty but in this case you can't really tell what it is unless you are completely on top of the bag and even then I think it looks quite nice and subtle. The front flap of the bag slots in to a shiny golden coloured slot with its large fastener and so the gold on the bag is quite prominent too really. The bag features two ways in which it can be held including a long strap which can go across the body or just over your shoulder and which is removable should you wish to use the smaller handle and just hold the bag in your hand. I think it is nice to have options with a bag like this, especially as it wasn't too expensive.
The bag isn't too big but inside it has plenty of room and so it is quite deceptive really as it opens up quite wide! Inside there is a section for your phone to slot in to as well as a zipped up section on one side. I personally prefer to pop my phone in the zip up section now because I had a few issues with the bag popping open on my night out in Essex and obviously as I was dancing I didn't realise and then would suddenly panic that it was open! The bag has since popped open randomly when it isn't full of things so this is something to be mindful of I would say and whilst it doesn't happen all of the time it is still a bit annoying when it does happen. On my night out I had a small purse, my camera, bits of make up and even a pair of folded up ballerina shoes in the bag and it all fit nicely and didn't make the bag bulge or anything so it is a good size really just make sure any valuables are in the zip up section where possible.
I like to use the bag for little days out now too when I don't need to take a million things with me and so need my giant bag. It is comfortable to carry either using the across the body strap which I do think makes the bag feel more secure and I haven't noticed it pop open this way but it is also comfortable to carry using the little carry handle as well. As the bag is black and white it seems to go with most things and it doesn't look too over the top if I take it out when I am just in my casual wear as well as looking fine with my more dressy clothes and so I think it is pretty flexible really.
Whilst I realise I have had issues with the clasp on the bag popping open occasionally I still do like this bag as I think it is a nice versatile bag which can be used for nights out or for day to day use as long as you don't need to take the kitchen sink out with you (which it can feel like sometimes on trips out as a family!)
