Mulberry is a fashion company that was founded in England in 1971. They are now known internationally for their handbags.
I had been a long time admirer of Mulberry handbags, but I always admired them from afar as I simply felt that I could not afford their prices. It was after graduating from University, securing myself a graduate job and working in said job for a year that I decided it was time to use one of my first pay cheques to treat myself. I know many people disagree with spending such a large amount of money on one piece, but I really felt that it was something I would keep for years to come and would get my money's worth out of. I also wanted to treat myself before I enter the big bad and expensive world of mortgages, marriage and children!
After months of browsing the Mulberry website, I decided that the bag for me was the Mulberry Small Bayswater Satchel. This is the younger, smaller sister of the famous and classic Mulberry Bayswater. The Mulberry Bayswater Satchel that I chose to buy was the oak natural leather style. It is an oak brown coloured bag. The bag is also available in chocolate brown and black natural leather, as well as black croc print and sycamore grainy print. My bag cost £595.
The bag is a satchel style handbag. For those of you who are familiar with the original Bayswater, it is a smaller version which also has a long shoulder strap. The dimensions of the bag are:
Handle drop 8cm
I would call this bag a 'small' handbag but I definitely think it is large enough to hold all my essentials. On a typical day in my bag I will have my purse, my phone, keys, a hairbrush, a packet of tissues, numerous lip balms/sticks/glosses and it all fits perfectly. I like this bag as while it is large enough to hold all my essentials during the day, it is also small enough to use as an evening bag.
What I really love about this handbag is that it is versatile and can be worn in a number of ways. It can be held in the hand, worn over the shoulder or in the crook of your elbow, or worn across the body. I tend to wear the bag over the shoulder or across the body during the day, I then remove the shoulder strap and carry it if I am using it at night time.
The shoulder strap is length adjustable and can also be detached. As well as this strap, the bag has 2 fixed short leather handles. As with the classic Bayswater, this bag has a postman's lock. There is also a little leather pouch which dangles from the strap of the bag, within this pouch is a padlock which can be used to lock the lock.
The handbag is made from genuine leather and it has a brushed leather interior. Even after owning it for a number of months, it still smells of that gorgeous leather smell. As I have used the bag, it has started to develop the lovely softened and 'worn' leather look. I use leather water stop spray on my bag and regularly clean it with leather gel to keep it in good condition.
One thing that I have noticed about this bag is that after wearing for a while and having it sitting around, it started to look a bit squashed and flat as the leather became a bit out of shape. To resolve this, recently when I have not been using the bag, I have stuffed it with some scrunched up tissue paper to help it hold it's original shape. This has worked well.
One thing that is really important to note for anyone thinking of buying a Mulberry bag is that there are a lot of fakes out there. For this reason it is best to buy a Mulberry from the official website, or from a Mulberry store or a department store that stocks them, as while fakes are a bit cheaper, it would be awful to spend so much on a product that is not genuine!
I really love my Mulberry handbag and think it was a once in a lifetime extravagant purchase. I know I will use this for years to come and the quality is amazing.
Thanks for reading/rating and I hope you found my review interesting.
