I bought the most amaaazzzing pair of shoes from Dune a few months ago which were a nude colour but I struggled to find a bag that would go well with them. Heading to River Island I knew I would find one there and wasn't too surprised when I stumbled across this beautiful little clutch bag. Although I was looking for something of a nude colour, this bag actually has a slight hint of pink in it too but it went really well with my shoes so I snapped it up, for around £15 or £16 if I remember rightly.

The bag has some metal strips around the corner edges which are probably more for detailing, but being quite practical it will probably protect it from fraying / looking tatty too. As you would expect from River Island, there is also the branded plate on the back which you will find some variation of on nearly all of their bags and purses.

The bag has a chain type strap which can be hidden inside the bag to turn it into a clutch or it can go on the shoulder for an everyday use. Having two children, I usually have half of my kitchen, 27 crayons, plasters, wet wipes, etc in my day bag so there is no way I would ever have the pleasure of using this bag during the day, but for all you child free or very organised ladies out there, I'm sure it would be perfect for day use too!! The strap can also be completely removed by unclipping the fastenings. I have taken mine off completely as I prefer to use mine solely as a clutch bag.

A zipped pocket inside the bag is handy for keeping money in when you are on a night out. My purse is quite large and bulky and although it would fit in this bag (which is actually surprisingly spacious inside), it isn't really a purse I like to take out as it has all my cards, driving licence in etc, so the zipped pocket for me is essential. Despite the bag being quite large for an evening bag and having no real structure to it other than the faux leather, it isn't 'floppy'!!! I have had bags similar to this in the past and they do nothing but look flimsy and fold over on itself which just makes it look silly. This bag doesn't do that, and as I said, despite it not having any kind of frame or structure to it, it holds its shape well.

For the price of the bag the material obviously isn't real leather but it does a pretty good job of looking like it. In one bar on a recent night out, a quite obnoxious looking man barged into me and spilt half of his pint all over me. My bag took the brunt of it and I was worried the bag would be ruined. The bag, with a damp cloth, wiped easily clean and didn't stain or have any water marks on it, so this is really handy to know but please don't go pouring things on it to test!

For the price of this bag, I really don't think you can go wrong. It doesn't look cheap at all, which I don't think River Island bags ever do. It's practical, lovely and really well made. I'm completely convinced that if I continue to use the bag for meals out or nights out that I will get a good few years use out of it (I will more than likely get bored and buy a new one before it needs replacing due to its condition!).
There were other colour variations of this bag: black, red and blue.

A great little bag which I'm very pleased with

I recently bought two pairs of shoes both in a nude/beige type of colour and then realised that most of my 'going out bags' were either black or brown so didn't match. I looked around online for something which was a similar colour to my shoes and found this cream metal corner clutch bag from River Island.

Although I had a voucher code for free delivery, I decided to go into the store and take a look at this bag before purchasing, because in the past I've found some things on the River Island website have looked totally different in 'real life' to how they do online. Once satisfied that I liked the bag, I took it to the till where my husband offered to pay for it - bonus! On that subject, the price of this bag is a very reasonable £15. I would normally expect to pay slightly more than this for something from River Island so I do feel I got a bit of a bargain.

Onto the bag, and firstly I should discuss the colour. Although it is called cream on the website, its actually more a nude colour, with a hint of a pinky-beige tone than it is cream, in my opinion. It's unusual as in some lights it also looks a tiny bit yellowish. The metal corners, clasp and River Island branded plate on the back are all silver. I should note that a red, blue and black version of this back are also available.

One thing I liked about this bag is that it has a short silver chain strap, which can be hidden inside the bag. This not only makes the bag more versatile in terms of looks, but I find it very handy as sometimes with clutch bags I find you have to wedge them under your armpit or chin - especially if you are carrying several drinks from a bar. The chain means it can be used as a shoulder bag, or sometimes I pull the chain across to one side and fasten the bag, which turns it into a wrist strap. The chain is held on with clips, so can be completely removed if you prefer, but I simply tuck it inside.

The bag itself is a sort of faux leather look. It's hard to describe but it has a matte, almost weather beaten kind of finish to it. I like the texture of the bag it's soft, yet holds its shape so is not floppy at all.

The bag measures 20cm x 16cm. It is completely flat, yet I still find that I can fit quite a lot into it. Last time it was used it held a small can of body spray, a lip gloss, my phone, keys and purse and by the end of the night also a cheap bracelet which was itching my wrist! I should note that there is an inside zip pocket which is quite roomy.

I would say I've probably had this bag around two months now and I have gotten a lot of use from it, especially as I took it on holiday and was using it virtually every night. It's impossible to judge how long it will last, but it seems to be holding up quite well and it seems fairly well made for such a cheap item. The silver corners, clasp, name plate and chain are all still as shiny as when I bought them with no sign of tarnish.

On the whole I really like this bag and hope to get a lot more use from it. I think the best thing is simply that it goes with everything, being such a neutral colour and design. It was the only 'going out' bag I took on holiday as it was the only one I felt I needed as it looked equally good with a dress or jeans. I think this has been a huge bargain already and I would definitely recommend it.
