“ Brand: River Island / Type: Purse „
I had this purse last year and like my bag reviews I love a purse too - mainly River Island ones. The purse was a nice size too small to be a clutch for a night time if your going out. The colour of the purse is cream and with a sewn in design to make it look patterned. The design is nothing special just a River Island badge to the front with a gold bar across the front. The back of the purse is a clip closure for your coins. Inside when you open the fold at the front is a section for the coins and notes and plenty of room for your cards. The only disappointing thing I found was this purse because of the colour it is so easy to get dirty and the dirt is very visible. I paid around £17 for this purse which I don't think is overly expensive.
I've been on a mission to try shopping "smarter" and really think about the purchases I make rather than just buying something because I like the look of it. I decided to purchase this particular purse as I wanted something that I could use on a daily basis that would help to keep my bits and pieces more organised. The Curve Stitch Purse is part of a range of accessories by River Island, and costs RRP £17.00. It comes in a variety of different colours including cream, black, tan and pink.
The Curve Stitch Purse is larger than most, and is quite oversized compared to a normal compact purse. It is rectangular, measuring 19cm across and 10cm tall. The outside is made of 100% polyurethane which is embellished with a curved pattern of stitching in a colour that matches the main material of the purse. I love this simple design as it has a gorgeous art deco sort of look to it and is pleasing to the eye. There are also some metal parts of the frame that come in different finishes depending on which colour purse you have chosen. I have this purse in the cream colour, and has an antique gold coloured clip frame, as well as a matching coloured popper closure and a metal section at the edge of the front section. There is a classy looking plaque on the front that displays the River Island branding. The lining material is a contrasting shade of coral pink which stands out against the neutral exterior.
The inside of the purse is very neatly organised and has an extensive number of sections for storing all sorts of things. The purse itself is split into two sections, one at the front and one at the back. The back section has a clip-top frame with two large sections inside. These sections are as big as the entire width and height of the purse and can be used to store larger items. They really are very generously sized and spacious. For example, I often use these sections to hold tickets for the cinema or gigs to keep them intact without bending or folding. I can also fit my passport into one of the sections, and I have even used it before to hold my mobile phone in this section, as the sections open out to allow lots of room thanks to the design of the frame.
The front section of the purse is where the design really has been thought about to maximise its usefulness. It is hugely practical if you have a number of different cards, vouchers, receipts, paper notes and coin cash to store, as each can have its own section and be stored neatly allowing a clear way of placing and retrieving items quickly and easily. It has a bi-fold design with a firm popper to keep it closed. The front flap lifts open to reveal 5 card slots and a further card slot with a clear plastic window, all on the underside of the flap. You could keep your ID here, or a family photo, or (if you're me) a knitting needle size conversion chart (handy for knitting on the go!). There are then even more sections on the main part of the purse, which has pleats to allow it to expand and be filled with quite a lot of stuff... There is a slimline flat pocket at the very back, and then two large open segments with a zipped section in the middle. I always keep my loose change inside the zipped section, and then separate my receipts and vouchers into the back segment, with paper money in the front segment to make it all easily accessible. There are also another 4 card slots on the outside (front) of this section, which is then covered securely by the front flap which closes down to cover it all and keep everything safe inside. I find that these 4 card slots can comfortably store 2 cards each, so I am able to hold absolutely everything I need in one purse, without having to go frantically digging around for my various cards.
The large size means that the purse is an excellent storage solution and it really does allow me to organise everything in a way that makes it easy to use, which is excellent when I'm queueing to pay for something as I can easily find whatever it is I need and deal with it straight away. The only problem is that it can feel quite heavy, as the purse is fairly weighty in the first place due to its large size and frame. You also need to consider that it will take up a good amount of space within a handbag, so this is no good unless you're going to be carrying a larger bag such as a satchel or tote that provides enough space for the purse to fit inside. On a couple of occasions I have even used this purse in place of a small clutch bag as it can hold my money, phone, ID, keys and lip gloss - everything I'd need on an evening out!
This purse has a smart design and is well made, but I did notice that the zip pull on the only zipped section happened to break very quickly - within 2 weeks of buying the purse. This is not too much of a problem as the zip still works and can be fully opened and closed properly, but it is a bit annoying as I have had to use a small safety pin to replace the broken zip pull, which does spoil the look of the purse somewhat. Other than that the purse has turned out to be very durable, which is excellent considering that I use it every day and have now owned the purse for around one year. The decorative stitching is all perfectly intact, and there have been no marks or damage to the faux leather material. Because my purse is cream coloured, it has of course started to look a little dull due to wear and tear through general usage, but this can be brightened by giving it a quick clean.
Overall I would definitely recommend this Curve Stitch Purse by River Island. It is the perfect way to keep myself organised day to day and I can rely on this to store everything I need neatly and securely. If you're the type of person who likes to have everything and the kitchen sink when out and about, then this may indeed be the ideal purse for you!
I brought this purse as a pre birthday treat to celebrate my new found matureness (it was my 18th birthday) and also I was fed up with my old purse as it was rather bland and I wanted a new one to brighten up my day (I have this purse in the bright orange colour).
This purse struggles to fasten up correctly at this front as it has the popper sort of fastening. It does not fit properly even when I have only a few pound coins in the change part. I could understand this problem if my purse was bursting with change, but I found this disappointing as it would not fasten with only a few coins. This also means that when the purse is in my bag that coins end up everywhere, in the bottom of my bag, when I take the purse out my bag coins end up everywhere.
When you open the purse up there is the usual note part, with a zip compartment in the middle. This is a really nice feature as I use this part to keep the most important parts in like my debit cards and other things my life depends on.
There is also the card slots where you put your cards, such as driving license, store cards etc. I am really disappointed with this part of the purse. There is only a limited number of slots so I find I have to store these cards in the other part of the purse which is not very secure and means they can get mixed up easily.
Also, when all of the slots are used up the other cards are IMPOSSIBLE to get out as they become wedged. I was trying to get my ID out the other day in the shop and the man in the queue behind me had to help me to get this out as it had become so stuck. This is not the first time this has happened and I find this rather embarrassing when I'm in a queue and trying to pay for something in a rush.
The colour of my purse is beautiful, a sort of coral orange, which is bright and very eye catching which is what caught my eye in the first place.
The price of the purse which was £18 when I brought it, (I'm certain it has been reduced by now) which I found expensive compared to other high street shops, but as I shop in River Island regularly, I paid expecting good quality as I have with other products I have brought from this store.
However, I did not see this quality and I am disappointed with this purse overall. I would not recommend this to a friend and to be honest, I think I will end up getting a replacement very soon.
Even though my purse is something I use pretty much everyday its not an item that I update a lot. But a few months back my old purse actually ripped open at the seams (not because there was so much money in it sadly!) but because I had owned and used it for about 2 years so I decided to go shopping for a new one. Now when it comes to purses Im not too fussy as long as it looks quite nice and has card and coin compartments Im happy but Ive learnt from personal experience paying slightly extra for your purse will ensure it lasts longer so River Island was my first port of call. I eventually settled on this 'River Island Curve Stitch Purse' - it wasnt my usual style but it fit all my criteria and it happened to be on sale so I took a chance. Im very glad I did - although as usual I have a few small niggles with this!!
Price: I paid around £17 - that was on sale I believe the full price is £22.
Stockists: ASOS & River Island store & website.
Other Info: This purse is available in Cream, Black, Beige & Brown - the one I own is the Cream colour. This purse has many seperate compartments for money & cards (maybe a little more than necessary for me!) & is 19cm W & 10cm H - which means its a little bigger than my previous purse but its still small enough to carry around in a bag easily without it taking up too much room.
Now looks wise I have to admit this wouldnt have been something Id have normally gone for. For starters it looks to me like a more grown up purse - it is cream in colour with curve stitching in the same colour all over the front and back. Now even though the stitching is the same colour as the purse it still manages to stand out and the pattern is clearly noticable so it isnt just a boring one coloured purse - also the light colour is not a problem for dirt. I havent needed to clean this so far ( I believe Ive had it for about 2 months now) but even when it does become dirty the material can simply be wiped clean with a babywipe so its not something I worry about. On the front of the purse is the instantly recognisable 'River Island' gold plaque - thats where one of my niggles comes in sadly. The plaque becomes scuffed and shabby VERY quickly which makes the purse look a lot older in my opinion and there isnt anyway I can figure to stop that - not a major problem but it does take away from the lovely appearance a little bit.
At the back of the purse is a clip top compartment which I personally use for things like my bus pass & occasionally my iPod - simply because there is another section for my coins - I dont use the back section too much but for some people having that extra space might be a really good thing. The main section of the purse is secured with a small clip which is easy enough to open and close and that reveals the card, coin & notes sections. There is a small coin part in the middle which has an added zip to ensure your money is extra safe and your notes are slipped into a small pocket at the back of that. The main attraction to me though when buying this was the amount of card slots - this one has 10 spaces for your cards - which if your anything like me and have cards for every store imaginable will be an amazing amount! There is also a little clear slot which can be used for a photo of a loved one or even as another card slot if you wish - but its nice to have the choice. Appearance wise I love it and I have no doubt that this is a very practical purse but I have an issue with the design.
The first day I bought this the clip which opens and shuts the purse broke. It was easy enough to fix back on with some nail glue but I expected a purse that was a little more pricey than Id normally go for to be of better quality than that - if you buy this purse be careful not to be too heavy handed or it will just fall apart in your hands!! Other than my 2 annoying niggles with the design of the purse everything else about it is brilliant. It has a very grown up and classy design and has more than enough room for everything I need so its gorgeous and practical - I just wish it hadnt fallen apart on the very first day. Im going to give it 4*s overall because I would recommend it - but maybe not to heavy handed people like myself!!
Thanks For Reading.
