“ Brand: River Island / Type: Satchel „
I always buy a bag when I can afford one - mostly River Island.. once I get bored with it I sell it on eBay and with the money I make I put it towards another. I have quite a collected of bags and always River Island are my favourite. I have had a few bags from River Island over the years and even though I don't think the quality is overly amazing I still like them and it doesn't put me off buying more. I got this bag last year it was a nice design and always go for a satchel or tote bag. This was available in different colours but this one goes with everything. The satchel was of a nice size more of a medium perfect to fit all of your things in you need through the day. There was nothing special about this bag I just liked the size, colour and design with the 2 buckles on the sides. The strap isn't too long and not too short - just a perfect during the day bag!
I'm completely obsessed with river island bags due to their design and quality. This bag is no exception. I bought this bag after having seen my friend with one. I loved the design and leather feel. Inside it's very spacious and consists of a zipped pocket which is handy for keeping purse, phone or other important things. Even though there is a phone pocket I prefer keeping my phone zipped especially in crowded areas plus it's easy to find. Additionally, the strap can be adjusted to different lengths and the bag itself is very strong. It has been used for so many different purposes: uni, work, social etc. My friend bought the same bag in a white-ish colour, however, it got very dirty quite quickly. The tanned one I bought looks as good as new even after a year. The only bad thing about the bag is that my shoulders begin to ache after carrying it for a few hours, even with hardly anything inside. However, having said that the bag also has a little handle part at the top and can be switched between carrying on the shoulder or arm, so whenever my shoulders start to ache I switch to arm. It's a very good strong bag suitable for any purpose.
I remember buying this bag from River Island mid-last year for £35 after seeing my best friend with it. She had purchased the bag in black and so not wanting to copy her too much I purchased it in tan as in the colour shown in the picture.
The satchel is a really nice, on trend design with a carry handle, and also a longer handle which can be worn over the shoulder. I must say I only ever used this bag as an over the shoulder strap bag as I am not really a person for carrying a bag in my hand as I get fed up of holding it after a while! It is closed with a flap which has a magnet type closing device. On the front of the bag is a "gold" plated River Island branding which makes the bag look more expensive than it is and so gives it a nice high end appearance.
Inside the bag has a zip pocket on the side opposite to the flap, and on the opposite it has 2 small inner pockets which I find handy for keeping things like my keys, or a tin of vaseline and my oyster card for near and easy reach. The bag unfortunately isn't the biggest of bags, which I was a bit gutted about as I had hoped to use it for uni! It could fit a paperback book, a small umbrella and the dozens of other trinkets I like to carry in my bag on a daily basis but was not large enough to fit an A4 notepad or a textbook or anything of the sort in...a shame really! A small negative I could say about this, is when I did find I overloaded this bag it felt really heavy and strained on my shoulder as the strap is actually quite thin so concentrates a lot of the weight on a small pressure area on my shoulder, meaning I would constantly swap shoulders the bag hangs off lol.
My biggest gripe (although I still love the bag itself!) with the bag is the quality of manufacture. It is not a genuine leather bag (hence the fraction of the price!) and it is made from Polyurethane which is a manmade material to imitate leather. As I absolutely loved this bag I literally used it at every opportunity meaning it got bashed about a bit, what with me throwing my bag in my car, and on floor when I get home etc and so the material on the straps and on the corners of the bag started to peel and wear away! I would say this occurred about 6 months after purchase so I got some hefty use out of it. In addition, when I wore dark clothing, this would transfer onto the bag and so the side constantly rubbing against my clothes when I wore this across my shoulder has now faded and got a dark patch!
It's a shame really, as I love this bag and so it now resides in my wardrobe with many other bags from Pauls Boutique and Topshop which I can no longer use due to them breaking or wearing away but I haven't got the heart to throw them away! Hopefully one day I will miraculously open my wardrobe and they have all transformed themselves back to new ;)
This a great everyday use bag that is very affordable from River Island, it costs me £18 however that was in the sale, I think the normal retail price is around the £30 mark and for the price I paid for it I felt like I got a bit of a bargain.
It is a satchel bag design with a long strap so that it can be worn across the body however there is also a carry handle if you do not want to use the strap. It is a tan colour and I was impressed with how soft and supple the bagis, it has a quality feel to it that far exceeded my expectations given the price and this makes it nice and comfortable to carry around.
What does show it up a little bit as being a bit of the cheap side is the gold coloured buckles and the badge bearing the River Island name, these just look a bit cheap and while they have retained their looks over the few months that I have owned this bag they are the one thing I'm not so fond of and why this is certainly a bag I only use for everyday stuff rather than going out with it anywhere nice.
Where it does shine is in the storage capacity which is great, it holds a lot with a zipped compartment inside as well for extra security. I do feel that this is a nice secure bag, the strap buckles are good and would not be easy to open by a pickpocket as they take a bit of pressure and movement to open and the zipped compartment keeps things secure inside.
For the price I'm happy with my purchase, it has retained its looks despite the use it gets while travelling on the train and tube and it holds a lot so I'm able to have everything I need with me all in one bag.
I'm not much of a shoe person, but ask me about handbags and I shake at the knees! I love them! I have expensive designer ones, and high street ones but my favourite 'cheaper' handbag has to be from River Island. I have had so many from here and haven't been dissapointed.
This particular cross over satchel caught my eye about a year ago and it's had a fair amount of use in that time and still looks great. I think I paid about £35 for it. It's currently listed on the sale page of River Island for £15 but is out of stock, keep an eye out to see if it comes back in stock because for £15 it can't be missed.
The bag is a soft tan colour and feels really soft. It has two handles, one to carry in the crook of the arm and one to carry over the shoulder, which is just so much easier. I'm normally carrying children, totes, shopping etc so it's so handy that I can sling this over my shoulder and leave it! It has gold buckle fastenings and a gold River Island rectangular badge in the centre which I think feature on 99.9% of their bags and which I always notice on other people.
It is secure (which my husband always goes on about as I'm forever leaving my bags open and unzipped) and it fits quite a lot in. I'm forever having to go through this bag as I literally just fill it with junk, things for the kids, etc. I can regularly find bits of cutlery in my bag, the odd umbrella, pens, make up (endless make up!), sweets for the children (in bribery situations), purses, hair brushes, spare socks for the children (I don't know why either!), and on my days at work I even manage to fit a sandwich and drink in it too. You get the idea - it holds a lot! It has the usual zipped compartment inside which I always start out with good intentions and then fill it with more junk!
Quality wise I have no complaints about this satchel at all. It feels so much more expensive than it was and the softness of the bag itself feels very luxurious. In a years worth of good use I haven't had any problems with loose stitching etc and it even wipes clean if it gets marked. The inside of bags never look the same for me after a month or two, but this isn't a reflection of the bag.
In comparison to other bags in my collection or other satchel bags out there, I think the £35 pricetag for this bag is really reasonable. I had had my eye on a lovely one I had seen in Radley and that was nearly £200 so this was a right bargain (much to my husbands delight!). I think River Island sells good quality fashionable clothing and accessories at a reasonable price and people will notice this bag.
It's not a show stopper but it is a great every day, versatile little bag that looks great and will last.
Unless you've been in hibernation for the last year, you will know how popular satchel bags have become in the fashion world. Whether its a big, small or medium size - they are everywhere! I decided to buy one but wanted one of good quality, without the large price tag - thats why I opted for this cross body satchel from River Island (known for their quality of bags!). The Mulberry Alexa and Hermes bags are the reason and copied style which I think is gorgeous!
The bag costs £36.99 and can be brought from instore (if available) or online. Obviously online you will have to pay for postage so I would recommend buying from in store. The Mulberry bag costs £695 and looks incredibly similar, so this really is an excellent buy!
The bag is a light brown, tan/camel colour which is gorgeous, I really like the fact it looks a little distressed as it adds to the 'vintage' style. The buckles are gold and so is the statement 'River Island' plaque which is shown on all bags by the brand. I do really like the plaque as from a distance it could be disguised as actually being by Mulberry (until you can read the label). The bag has a long strap which can be worn across the body or over the shoulder and is adjustable. If you don't like this, you can simply hold the handle on the top which is attached to the buckled straps on the front. The inside is a nude colour with a zip up pocket and a phone pocket, very simple but with enough space to store everything you will need.
The bag is approximately 40cms long and it fits my a4 notebooks for college in perfectly. Its quite big and manages to fit my lunch, water, phone, purse, keys, makeup bag, pencil case, raybans, umbrella.. and all the other junk I carry around everywhere. I have to admit it carries the weight pretty well and doesn't struggle or break under the pressure. I wouldn't recommend it as being a weekend bag, it is more for use as a handbag (or college/school bag if you're of this age). It is so practical and lightweight that it doesn't get annoying like other bags I have at home.
The bag is also brilliant quality, I have yet to come across one by River Island which breaks easily or isn't of the highest standards. Like everyone, I do worry about the weight of my bag just incase it does break but it held up perfectly. 4 months later and it is still in the same condition I brought it in.
I would recommend this bag as it does look incredibly similar to the Mulberry that its inspired by. I am aware that £36.99 is quite expensive for a bag, but when it lasts for a long time it is worth it - especially if you don't use it every single day! I have been complimented on my bag many times when I've been out and a few of my friends have now also purchased it as they loved mine so much! I do feel like a bit of a walking River Island promoter though because the brand is so obvious on the side.
I have to give this bag 5 star ratings because it is perfect. I couldn't fault a single bit of it - even the price! I'm glad I treated myself because it is now one of my favourites and goes with almost every outfit I own!
I got this bag as a treat for my self i had promised my self a new bag that had to look classy but also be practical and fine to use everyday.I had three top stores in mind from where i like bags from and river island was the more affordable choice out of the three on an earlier trip to my local river island store i noticed how they had stepped up there game so much with the style of hand bags and although most i was seeing was nt real leather which i usally prefer i really did nt mind as they still looked fab ! and most to look at you would nev er even know so this was a win win situation buy a stylish bag from a great high street shop ontrend at a decent price. There was only one problem now was deciding which one out of all i liked that i was going to buy.Well i decided upon the Cross Body Satchel Bag and i am really happy with it i like the attention to detail with the gold coloured metal features and the colour which is a good change for me as i too often bag bags that are black or dark brown. This colour bag works for all seasons good for summer through to winter, its trendy with out being something that will be a fading trend in the next few months like so many other styles .And although quite a simple style is very much a must have bag !!
I absolutely love anything River Island and this bag is no different.
I think I got about 4 different River Island bags, and this is my "sofisticated one" - perfect for a job interview, to work or to university. I just love the fake leather, it feels so nice and soft and does look like the real deal.
It´s got an adjustable shoulder strap, plenty of different pockets/compartments in different sizes. The whole bag is held safely together by straps with a belt-buckle locking functions. I would say it´s impossible for a pick-pocketer to rade this bag if you got it sealed properly.
It also got a handle that you can carry it in, making it look even more smart - almost like a suitcase. Its big enough to fit all your documents, make-up, phones, iPods and any other necessity you need to take with you. If you got one of them mini laptops, then you will easy be able to fit that in to.
I´ve had mine for a while and I haven´t noticed anything on it that´s starting to break or fall off.
It´s not cheap, but it´s on the other hand not as expensive than a lot of other bags similar to this. And the fake leather makes it look a lot more expensive than it actually is.
~Reasons for Buying~
Recently I got some results from exams that I had taken, and I did really well. I was really pleased and felt like going into town and treating myself. Now, there was a bag I'd had my eye on for a while now, but because it was more expensive than what I would normally pay for a bag I wasn't sure about whether to get it or not.
The bag is of course, this cross body satchel bag from River Island and is currently on sale both online and in stores across the UK costing £36.99.
I think the reason liked the bag so much is because I read in my magazine about the latest 'It' bag of this season being the Mulberry 'Alexa' bag, and there were lots of photos of different celebrities wearing the bag. I love keeping up with the latest trends but can honestly say feel sick at the thought of spending £695 on a bag which is how much the Mulberry one costs. I decided to look for a similar bag from the high street that would hopefully be a lot cheaper, but still look just as good.
Before I bought this in store I had seen it online first. It was on a section of the River Island website called 'Vogue Recommends' which just increased my attraction to it. So this wasn't just an impulse buy, it was something I'd been thinking about getting for a while and I had looked at different bags too but in the end decided on this one.
~What It Looks Like~
The bag is like a sort of light brown, beige colour with shiny light gold buckles and a light gold plaque on the front that has engraved into it 'RIVER ISLAND' with some smaller italic french writing above it and what looks like a little tiara. I have to admit I do really like this plaque being on the bag, because I think it makes the bag look more expensive than it would if it wasn't there. I'm not a snob at all, and to prove this, I practically live in Primark! But if I'm really honest I do like people to think I spent more money on my clothes than I really have. Its probably just a girl thing. Also I really love the french writing and tiara detail as I think it adds luxury and pretty bits of detail to the bag.
The bag has a handle on the top of it so that you can carry it in your hand like a briefcase, or on the crook of your arm. It also has a longer handle (which is adjustable thanks to the shiny gold buckle on it) which I prefer to use, as you can wear it like a cross body bag or over one shoulder which is how I normally wear it.
Sometimes things look different in real life than they do in pictures online, but this is one thing that I think looks exactly the same, if not it is nicer in real life. I love how it looks and think it is a really gorgeous bag. It looks very smart and not scruffy at all and is the most stylish and smart bag I have ever owned.
~Is It Practical?~
For me this bag is absolutely the perfect size. At the moment I have managed to fit into it, two thick A4 Pukka pads (there is room for five, maybe six at a squeeze), my pencil case, an umbrella, some lip balm and there is plenty more room where I could put a lunch box, and a bottle of water. The bag is 33cm wide and you can adjust the depth of the bag thanks to buckles on the sides.
However I think if you needed this bag for say, using it to take clothes to stay at a hotel for the night, then it won't be big enough. And it isn't the sort of bag you could use for picnics or anything, it is basically just a handbag to use for college or everyday life.
The longer handle means that this bag is extremely practical for me to carry around. It is exactly the right size for me to pull over my shoulder quickly and not need to faff around squeezing it onto my shoulder (I say this as some bags they sell nowadays tend to have really small handles that are harder to carry or won't stay on your shoulder which can be annoying - you won't get this with this bag). Also if you could use the smaller handle on top instead; having two different handles is really useful.
The quality of the bag seems excellent. I was worried at first when I thought about the longer handle being quite thin, in case it wasn't strong enough. But I have tested filling the bag so it is really heavy and the strap doesn't wear or anything. It is brilliant.
Apart from the slightly expensive price tag I love everything about this bag. Last year I bought a bag for £8 from Peacocks and it lasted me all year long, so I was slightly bothered by how much this one costed in comparison. But I have to say this bag is a lot nicer looking and I am way more confident about walking around carrying it on my shoulder. I now carry this everywhere with me, even when I don't really need to it with me! I think River Island is a great shop and I feel great about having one of their latest bags on my shoulder.
I would definitely recommend this bag and I am really glad I bought it. I would give it five stars if it wasn't for the price tag. To justify the price tag this is what I say: if you need a bag and haven't got a new one for a while, or if you have done something really great lately and want to treat yourself then you should feel perfectly justified about spending this much money on a bag, after all it is your money. But I wouldn't encourage school children to spend this much if it isn't their own money that they're using to buy it as I feel that sends out the wrong message about the value of money.
I personally love this bag and am glad I bought it to treat myself.
