“ Brand: RNLI / Type: Jute Shopper „
WHAT IS IT?
A jute shipping bag from the RNLI. They sell it as part of their stock to raise funds for the cause and the large RNLI branding raises awareness.
It is very nautical looking because the main logo looks like waves and is in a seaside pale blue, the side panels and bottom of the bag are a matching blue. The handles are thick loops and the right length for carrying over your forearm or on your shoulder. The bag measures 12 inches x 12 inches and it opens out so you can carry bulky items.
WHAT I THINK
My husband bought this bag when we were on holiday because he was heavily into fundraising for them when he lived on the coast and likes to support them when possible. We used it during our holiday and now I use it as a shopping bag or to transport my baby daughters things when we go out for the day.
The bag is strong and holds heavy loads, because it is big I am careful not to overfill it in the supermarket so I can carry it comfortably. It does not sag when it is heavy and opens out widely so you can put tins or vegetables in it without having to stretch the sides of the bag, that's what I don't like about soft canvas shopping bags and prefer ones like this with proper structure. The handles feel like they are strongly attached to the bag and also are strong in themselves.
I like the design very much because it is brighter than the other jute bags I use, the logo is large but not brash so I don't mind it even though I usually like small and discreet logos on my bags. It doesn't fold well so I keep it in the boot of my car now, the longer handled canvas bags scrunch up so those are kept in the house. This RNLI bag is precisely for shopping and isn't much use for anything else apart from when I use it for my daughters things, my husband is happy with his purchase and also uses it when he does the shopping.
The RNLI shopping bag costs £3.50 and you can buy it in any of their shops or from www.rnlishop.org
5 Dooyoo Stars.
I recently wrote a review about the large jute shopper that we have stocked in our lifeboat shop and, while I was on the subject, I thought I would tell you about another favourite of mine.
This one is the Jute Shopper and is a smaller version of the large shopper that I have already reviewed, with the addition of some extra decoration.
This bag itself is again plain light brown in colour but this time there is a decoration on each side in shades of light and dark blue with white contrast. It is an attractive, swirly pattern with the words 'LIFEBOATS NEVER TURN BACK' and 'ESTABLISHED 1824' written across it. Take a look at the picture at the top of this review for more details.
This bag retails at just £3.50 and we sell an awful lot of them in the shop. People seem to think that it is an ideal option if they have bought a few items - they like to buy a small reusable lifeboat bag rather than buying a carrier bag from us. Welsh law means that all shops, stalls etc. have to charge at least 5p for carrier bags now and donate the money to a chosen charity - our chosen charity is obviously ourselves!
The bag measures 30cm (12 inches) tall, 30cm (12 inches) wide and 18cm (7inches) deep, so this one has a flat base of 30cm by 18cm. Obviously this is not, made to hold as much shopping as its larger counterpart but, believe me, you can still get a fair bit in it! As it has a flat base the bag itself will fold flat for storage purposes too.
There are two strong jute handles at the top of the bag for carrying in your hand - this one won't go over your shoulder. The handles are rounded and so are very comfortable to use. One thing that I have heard a lot of our customers say is that this bag is ideal because the whole thing is not long enough to drag on the floor when it is being used even if the shopper isn't very tall. I am 5 foot 6 inches so I wasn't actually aware of this until someone pointed it out to us.
As with all the RNLI shopping bags this one is nice, strong and very hardwearing. I use mine when I am out emptying the collecting boxes and have carried some heavy bags of change it in and again when I have to take all the money to the bank in order to pay it in.
As usual these shoppers are available to buy from the website at www.rnlishop.org.uk although, if you do buy them this way, you will have to pay an extra amount of £4.95 postage so, if you can get to a shop that is obviously the more financially astute way to buy one.
So we are here again - and it is another smart, strong, practical shopper for a good price and the money that you pay for it will go towards saving lives at sea which is brilliant!
As a final bit of information we have baseball caps in the shop for £6.95 which have the same pattern on them so you could buy a matching hat and bag!
