RNLI Large Shopper

RNLI Large Shopper
Advantages: Hardwearing, inexpensive, strong, helping to save lives
Disadvantages: None for me
When we opened our Lifeboat shop here in Llandudno last November one of the things that we had to sell was a range of shopping bags. Obviously these all sold and continue to sell very well indeed as it is now against the law here in Wales to give away bags that are any larger than an average birthday card. This means that, as long as we stock a range of strong, reasonably priced bags, they will always be a winner with our customers.
The one that really caught my eye when they all first arrived was the Large Jute Shopper and I immediately mentioned it to hubby as a birthday or Christmas present for me. Bless him - he remembered and I have been the proud owner of the bag since the end of last year.
The bag itself is plain light brown in colour and has the word 'Lifeboats' in blue across the bottom of each side and the RNLI flag in plain blue on each side too. It is 39cm (15.5 inches) tall, 44cm (17.5 inches) wide and 18cm (7inches) deep, which makes the base a flat oblong 44cm by 18cm. So you can see that it will hold a lot of shopping!
There are two sets of handles on this bag - one set for carrying by hand and a longer set for carrying the bag on your shoulder. Both are comfortable and easy to grip and I use either depending on how I feel and how heavy the bag is at the time.
On one side of the bag there is a large flat pocket measuring 44cm (17.5 inches) wide by 27cm (10.5inches) across the outside. Since the pocket is flat you can't really carry much in it but it would be ideal if you were using the bag to carry files and had some loose papers that you didn't want to get creased. I use mine to keep a pocket pack of tissues, a strip of paracetemol and a couple of plasters just in case and then I put my receipts in there when I am out shopping too. I wouldn't put money or my mobile phone in there as it could easily be pickpocketed so that would be just asking for trouble.
This bag is really strong, as are all the RNLI shoppers to be fair and I have carried a lot of heavy shopping in mine and it still looks as good as new. It cost the princely sum of just £ 4.95 and they used to be available from the RNLI website at www.rnlishop.org.uk although they are currently 'sold out' and I don't know if they are going to replace them in the online catalogue. I would suggest that, if you want to treat yourself to one of these shoppers, you head to a lifeboat shop - there is one attached to most lifeboat stations - and you may be able to find one there.
So there you are then, a brilliant, strong, practical shopper for a good price that helps to save lives. You can't say fairer than that can you?
One of the slogans for the retail arm of the RNLI is 'lifesaving shopping' and this really is just that!
Summary: A great shopper
