I ploughed my way through quite a few sites -when I wanted to buy an ereader. So here is my opinion.
If you need technical information, then go to amazon, if you need a honest opinion well here it is.
Problem : My partner needs good light to read, he frequently loses his page. His back hurts from holding a book and he hates computers
So I researched e-readers throughly, I read every description on every brand in magazines, newspapers. Advertised on forums did any one have one and could I ask questions. I then made the decision to buy a kindle .
The choice was made easier by the glowing reports and the books available on amazon, I also had enogh credits in my amazon account to pay for it so it was a no brainer.
When it came, I opened the box and was immediately struck by how light it was and was impressed by the white screen. I charged it up and away I went.
I switched it on and had a fiddle with all the buttons without reading the manual . It had some preloaded books on it and I could alter the text size to 7 different settings, my partner usually uses 1.5 strength glasses to read but I have since realised he doesnt need them for this device as it is so clear and concise.
Next to the downloads - I went on amazon and choose a book to download, theres plenty available free, but the one he really wanted was £12 to buy in ordinary book format and the other for the kindle was £1.63. I used one click download and I looked everywhere for a lead to plug the kindle into my laptop before I realised within seconds it was delivered straight to the kindle. I was impressed and had to get another book to see what happened as I had missed it.
So christmas day came and I was apprehensive about what he`d think but I thought, it wont be a waste of money as I`d love one for myself. He opened the box and switched it on, played with a few buttons and then realised that all the books were on it and promptly began to read.
He uses it everyday and my cookery book stand has become its permanent home as he sits at the table and rests it on there. He also bought a case from the £1 store and some headphones.
He was most impressed with the audio function, and I often see him sat with his eyes closed listening to "kindy" reading him a story. It has been on a cruise with us and now we dont have the problem of moving around the ship for the best light as its so clear and can even be read in sunlight.
It is probably the best present he has received as he has difficulty with books and its a nightmare taking them all on holidays. Now he takes his little "kindy", it weighs less than a small book. It knows what page your on when you turn it off and back on. So he always knows where he is in the story. He has numerous translators on it for foreign languages. It holds its charge for 4-5 days depending on usage.
Such a versitile machine and it has more functions but these are the ones he uses
I do have one thing to add though, I typed a book in on amazon and it wasnt available on kindle so I clicked a button I would like it available on Kindle and within 4 weeks it was and they emailed me to tell me
Summary: Worth its weight in gold
