My Kindle Surprise!
Amazon Kindle 3
Member Name: bumblebee11
Amazon Kindle 3
Advantages: Light, durable, easy to use, thin.
Disadvantages: Covers expensive
As a self confessed die hard book reader I put off getting an e-reader because I didn't want to lose the experience of turning a page or the smell of the book (yes I know bit strange but hey we all have quirks) and also the added bonus of being able to flick ahead if I cannot wait to see what happens. It wasn't until I realised as my book pile mounted up and I was going through books far too quickly up to 5 books in 2 weeks depending on how good it was that I finally relented and after much research into the different e-readers I decided to ask for an Amazon Kindle for my birthday in August.
To my surprise I was bought the £111 one as I thought with already having a wi-fi connection at home I didn't need the £152 version with the free built in 3G connection.
Well what can I say I'm fickle, after tentatively opening the package to find a rather small and thin looking rectangle device I thought to myself is this it? As it was instructed I charged it up before I turned it on and begin looking for my first few books to download.
So while I waited I browsed through the Amazon website to look for different books, to my surprise there were so many classics that I could download for free (my favourite word) and many that started from about 50p so after much deliberation I got Alice in Wonderland to try out first.
As the website states it downloaded in mere seconds and I was very impressed as I thought it was going to take ages due to the size of the book, so turning on my kindle which I named Kindle Surprise on my account I found the front menu very easy to navigate and my book had already popped up at the bottom of the list but me being a bit of a neat freak I wanted to have them in different section and managed to create different lists to put my downloads in so they were even easier to find.
The mini keyboard at the bottom was very easy to use despite its size and I found because the buttons were spaced accordingly that I didn't hit multiple buttons instead of just one when typing. The initial read of the book was daunting as I thought I'd miss turning the pages but to be honest I didn't even think about it because I enjoyed the fact I only needed one hand to hold it and turn the page as well as the arrow button was on the side with the back button above.
The screen itself was clear as day and there was no glare whatsoever coming from it so even after an hour of reading my eyes didn't hurt or ache one bit, as an added bonus you can change the size of the text by a handy little key on the keyboard which is great for people like me with sight problems. Although I have to admit I didn't enjoy Alice in Wonderland as was a bit heavy reading.
3,500 books, yes you heard me right all that many books minus the storage space within your home which for me is fantastic as I have all my books in one place and I'll never have to hunt around the house when I finished one because you can just click onto another one.
As an added feature the books you download are backed up onto your Amazon account so even if you delete them from your kindle you can re download for free.
I've have my Kindle since August and the first time I've had to charge it up was yesterday which I think is amazing as some things have a battery life of like 2 minutes and also the fact I read for a couple of hours a day I was surprised it lasted as long as it did.
The Final Word~~~~~~
What can I say I have found it extremely hard to find anything bad to say about my kindle as it's light, durable and handy to fit in my bag wherever I go.
I suppose the only thing is that the covers that you get are quite expensive some costing about £50.00 and I recommend you to buy one as I would hate it if mine got scratched.
If your only not getting one because of the actual feel of the book believe you me you'll not even think about it when your using your kindle.
