Advantages: Lightweight, Carry up to 1,000 books, no eyestrain, saving trees and save space in my room.
Disadvantages: no new book smell.
I got my Kindle for my Christmas. It is an Amazon Kindle. This is very useful as I am going to be getting my room decorated in the New Year. This has involved decluttering my room which includes lots of my old books going to the charity shop. This is rather sad because sometimes I will think of a book that I have read only to find I've given it away.
My Kindle is the 3g version. What this means is that the Kindle can work independently of my router. So I can go anywhere and download a book. It is fairly straightforward to download a book. Just hit menu and shop in Amazon Store and type in the name of a book. What I like to do is browse Amazon on the computer before deciding what book to buy. Since Christmas Day I have downloaded six books. The maximum capacity is 1,000 books which I doubt very much I will get to. Although it is nice to know the capacity is there.
When you first get it you have to charge it up. I found it reasonably quick when I plugged it into my computer. Obviously depending on use will depend how much you have to charge it. So far I've only had to charge it up once when I first got it. I've used it everyday since I got it and I still don't need to charge it.
Anyway what do I think of the Kindle? For ease of use I think it is marvellous. When you switch it on you are presented with a menu. In this menu you have the Kindle User's Guide, The New Oxford American Dictionary, Oxford Dictionary of English and Archived Items. To navigate this menu you use the five way control. To turn pages you have controls at either side of the Kindle.
So in conclusion I love my Kindle. It's great to know that I can think of a book and download it quickly from the comfort of my home. Download time is reasonably quick. So I would say this is a great gadget for reading. It doesn't give me eye strain after an hour, it's just like reading a book. So overall I would recommend this great gadget.
Summary: The Kindle is an extremely useful gadget which I would recommend to all avid readers.
