Amazon Kindle 4
Advantages: The size! It fits perfectly in a handbag. Battery life.
Disadvantages: Searching for a book is a bit fiddly. Scratches easily, buy a cover
When the Kindle was first released I took one look and turned my nose up at it. As an avid reader I felt that the whole experience of a book, the smell of the pages, the feel of it in your hands and the different fonts, pictures and colours all added to the overall experience. No way was I giving that up! However, whilst travelling through Eastern Europe with a limited amount of space in my rucksack, I could only carry a small supply of reading materials. I often get to the end of a good book and still have many hours to kill. I'd reach inside for another only to realise I had read the rest and would have nothing else to fill the time. A fellow traveller I met then showed me his Kindle. It was small, thin and didn't take up much room, yet had hundreds of books on it! The first chance I got I purchased one for myself and spent the next few hours using the free wifi in a Starbucks I had found downloading books from Amazon. I was converted! Now I have returned to the UK but still take my Kindle everywhere with me. It permanently lives in my handbag as it's such a convenient size and the battery lasts for about a month, depending on how much I use it. I'm never short of something to read as it can hold hundreds of books and magazines, many of which you can get for free or a small price, and you can order them by author, recently read, title or genre. The old slight negative is that it scratches easily so I would advise buying a cover for it.
Summary: Great for someone who reads a lot but doesnt want to carry a bulky book.
