Advantages: Light, comfortable to hold, easy to find new books
Disadvantages: No major disadvantages
I had been pondering the idea of getting a Kindle for a while but wasn't ever quite convinced that I would use it. I enjoy reading, but rarely find the time to do so, which meant that most of my annual reading would be condensed into a week's holiday by the pool. This was partly because I found the time then, but also because the annual trip to the airport bookshop was the only time I got around to choosing myself a book I wanted to read.
Increasingly tempted by the idea of a Kindle, I asked for one for Christmas last year and was lucky enough to receive one. Eight months on, I have read more books this year than in the last five put together, making time to read most evenings. It is the gift that keeps on giving.
The main reason for this, I am convinced, is the ease of immediate access to an endless supply of books. As soon as one is finished, I enjoy searching for the next one. The ability to download the first few pages of a book as a sample is an excellent feature, providing a quick and easy way to find out whether a book is to my taste - or so often, my mood.
It is also incredibly light and so convenient to carry around. Makes quite a difference in the holiday suitcase too.
I had been slightly concerned that I might want for the features of the more expensive models but this hasn't proved to be the case. I'm sure the full keyboard on more costly versions would be useful, but I have never really missed it. After all, most of the time the only keys you need are the page forward and page back keys, it's only when searching for content that you need to type words in, and I've never found the typing system on this model to be a bother.
My only, very slight, niggle is that too often I haven't noticed the battery running down until it's nearly empty, because the battery icon only appears on the main screen rather than when you are engrossed in a book (maybe it's just my settings, I'm not sure). But in general the battery life is nothing to complain about - it lasts for weeks - but perhaps that's why I'm always surprised when I turn it on to find it is nearly empty!
Summary: An excellent, easy to use e-reader than helps to change reading habits for the better!
