Apple redefined tablet PC's with the 1st generation iPad. The 2nd generation was a continuation of this and since its release it has only been bettered by its successor, the ipad 3!
If you are reading this review I can only assume you know what I am iPad is. In short its a device for storing/listening to music and videos, accessing the internet and downloading and using a multitude of various applications.
As with most Apple products you get value for money. Although compared to some other tablet PC's on the market it may seem a little steep in price, the comparison in performance is astounding. The iPad 2, even now, is still markedly ahead of a number of Apples competitors most recent offerings. How? Well due to its reliability, ease of use and quickness. Everything the iPad does is done at speed. Applications rarely crash and there is endless support for every aspect.
There are many many uses for an iPad. What I have found it most useful for is the internet. Even though Apple products don't support Flash functionality this isn't a problem. Most of my use on the iPad is to go online to either look up information, mainly random and useless stuff but anyway. Also I use it for online shopping as I know that the web browser is completely safe from malware and other internet hacks so should be trouble free.
The look and feel of the iPad 2 is still much nicer than many other tablet PC's. Its lightweight yet feels durable and it is a very beautiful looking device. Nothing fancy going on to distract you from the screen. The screen really does do justice to the wealth of information and applications that it can run.
Video and sound playback is superb. Video is crisp and barely takes time to load. The volume can go surprisingly high yet as you would expect this diminishes the quality.
There are 2 variants of the iPad, with or without 3G. In my experience I have not yet found a use for my 3G connection on my iPad and would thoroughly suggest people go for the cheaper option of wifi only.
The battery life is around 9 hours per charge, thats plenty of watching videos, surfing the web or playing games! Obviously the more you use it the quicker it goes but performance doesn't change whether you have 1% or 99% of battery life remaining.
I would recommend that anyone looking for a new laptop/pc who is not a hardcore gamer or developer should get an iPad instead. They are probably around the price and offer a quicker solution for many everyday tasks which take place on a laptop.
The outlay of an iPad, albeit not a small outlay, is repaid quickly through the amount of use the iPad gets and the time it saves for menial tasks.
Everyone should own one!
Summary: if you don't own one, buy one!
