Advantages: great built, dual camera, brilliant iOS 5, wonderful retina display, longer battery last, app store
Disadvantages: 9.7-inch display is too big, camera quality not so good, expensive, no flash player in browser
I am a big fan of apple products. So when I have to choose what to buy between Apple iPad 2, Blackberry Playbook or Samsung galaxy tab to replace my old iPad, it will always be the iPad 2 that comes out as a product to buy.
I ordered iPad 2 3G 64 GB running on iOS 5 with anti-glare screen protector and free laser engraving which I opted to put my name on the back of my iPad 2 to personalize it.
The debatable topics that people always talked about are whether the apple iPad 2 is really worth the price? Or how about the customer who already has an iPad, does it really necessary to upgrade from iPad to iPad 2? Well, I have to say that so far I am somewhat satisfied with my iPad 2 experiences. While the Samsung galaxy tab leads the selling in the market, I still think that the apple iPad 2 is better if we compare it to any competitors in term of the features and technology.
Once again apple show their superiority with the brilliant product design they made. The apple iPad 2 comes with a very slim and light design. It is very similar if we compare it to the previous version really. But If you previously own an iPad, you will notice that the new product is thinner and lighter compared to its predecessor. The length and height are the same for both models, so if you think that the 9.7-inch display in the last year model is too big for you then maybe this new product is not for you. While I'm happy with the overall built, I do hope that the next version of this gadget will come in smaller dimension in terms of the length and height.
The Dual Camera
The iPad 2 comes with dual camera, the one at the back of the device, and a new integrated web cam in front of the device that has the ability to take a still picture, records a video and make a video chat with a new application support called facetime. I found the front camera really useful not only to use with the awesome facetime feature, but also to use with skype, which at the last year iPad failed to provide. While apple hyped their HD camera ability, I have to admit that the camera quality is not that "great". Perhaps "ok" or "decent" is more suitable.
One word: brilliant. The retina display is still as good as the previous product. I don't think that anyone will complain anything substantial about the iPad 2 displays because the quality is really good. Despite of that, I already knew from my iPad experience that the glossy screen glares under a bright light. That's why I bought my iPad 2 with the anti-glare screen protector.
Apple promised that the iPad 2 battery can last for 10 hours while browsing the internet, listening to music or watching video. But I don't think that my iPad 2 battery life ever match the 10 hours mark. The longest battery life for me is approximately 8 to 9 hours only with continuous usage. This is almost the same compared to my last year iPad. But I do feel that the iPad 2 battery recharged faster though.
Well, it has been totally different experience compared to the iOS 4. The new operating system is really awesome, rich in features, supported by established app store with a huge application choise, very user friendly and it gives this product a giant leap to leave all the competitor years behind. One feature that is really cool is the AirPlay Mirroring where I can wirelessly stream whatever's on my iPad 2 screen to my HDTV via Apple TV. But, The missing part of this brilliant OS is still the old same classic problem, where apple 'forgot' to add the flash player to the safari browser. I solved this problem by purchasing the Skyfire app from the app store which cost me more money but useful to open flash supported websites.
The overall speed performance of iPad 2 is much faster compared to the old one. I can tell the speed different when I open an application, playing games or browsing Internet that it's faster.
Well, it's an apple product. The price maybe high, but once again, you get what you paid.
Summary: can you name a better tablet than iPad 2? Yes, NOTHING. iPad 2 is simply the best
